The Royal on the Waterfront Ratings and Reviews
We were a bit dissapointed with the food this particular evening, especially when we had been there before and raved how good the food was! This time the risotto was way to runny and the fish was over cooked! The staff were fabulous though! They changed our dishes for new and different choices! Which were definitely better! Still turned out to be a good evening though!!!
Easy to find and the staff were all amazing especially as they were under the pump with all of the Hbf fun run competitors. Apologies were quick and error amended as quickly as the kitchen could do so. We were able to swap tables as half of our group departed after drinks which was also amazing. Would thoroughly recommend to everyone. A great spot.
Another great dining experience at The Royal. We were shocked that within the 3 weeks since our last visit the menu had changed and unfortunately a number of the GF options went with it. However a great waitress was happy to explain our options and the ways the food could be altered to accommodate dietary requirements. Nonetheless still a great venue in a beautiful location, with exceptional staff and delicious food. If sitting inside be sure to request a table by the window.
We took our freinds to the Royal for their 23rd wedding anniversary. They have never been to the Royal before. We sat outside and enjoyed the still night with the view of the water. Cocktails and food were good (1 pork belly was over cooked the other 2 pulled apart nicely) and the salmon was divine. Very nice night over all'
We had a friend from out of town and thought the Royal would be the perfect place to take him out for dinner. You can always rely on The Royal to produce beautiful food in a spectacular location. Service was outstanding and was a excellent night all round. Thank you.
Booked online, but poor service once arrived. No table reservation. Told would need to sit inside on a beautiful night when NOONE was inside as all outside tables taken. ???? reservation???
Waitress hovered annoyingly, refilled our water glasses about ten times and asked for our menu choice about 5 times even though we said each time we were not ready and were clearly engaged in deep conversation.
2 Cockroaches on ground around table and on chair legs. Understand as waterfront but surely there could be some baits or surface treatment done???
Poor experience with an Eastern States visitor in tow.
I had made a reservation for a table for 4 people 3 weeks prior to Sunday lunch and was assured that we would be able to have a table on the water, ie. next to the glass balustrade with a view to the water.
When we arrived we were put on a random table next to where the waiters clear the tables and away from the view and glass balustrade. It was extremely noisy as we were next to a group of 6-8 people who were very roudy.
I asked the waiter why we ended up with this table and he said it's because of the cricket and that all tables were already reserved. I commented that I'd booked 3 weeks prior and I was assured by an employee (over the phone) of the Royal that a table near the glass balustrade was reserved for us. I wish I had made note of her name.
We were then told by our waiter that our food order would take about an hour because they were so busy. We ordered starters which took the edge off so this was okay but I had to remind the waiter about our order 1.5 hours later! I really think we were forgotten about!
The food was okay but I was very disappointed with the booking as we didn't get the table we had booked and the food took way too long to come out! :(
The venue is great on a warm day but had issues with booking through open table. I modified the booking for 4 people but the restaurant never received the update so I had to stand and argue with the waitperson for a good 10 min to get a table outside liked I'd asked. Once all sorted the rest of the afternoon was good. Nice recommendation by the waiter for a french rose.
A very pleasant afternoon sitting by the river. All meals good except the pizza which was extremely salty. Unfortunately my husband didn't mention it until they cleared the plates and there was a few slices left, the duty manager came out within minutes offering complimentary dessert or coffee to make amends, excellent service from them. Would definately go again as overall very good.
The restaurant ambience was well presented, furnishings, lighting, very clean well noted. One problem was the wine list was very expensive, would be much approved if chosen wine list had a few more mediocre pricing. Also more choices of wine by the glass, as folks today have to be careful not to consume vast amount of liquor. Garlic bread was very different, not the usual bread we are used to eating, found the bread served was greasy.Fish and chip dish would have been better served with salad.
