The Rocks Mornington
The Rocks Mornington, sitting on Mornington's waterfront, is a vibrant waterside eatery specializing in tantalizingly fresh seafood dishes with a slew of Asian-inspired plates, served in its relaxing and elegant restaurant. For starters, the hirimasa king fish sashimi with a fennel, apple and ruby grapefruit salad from the raw bar and the vegetable dumplings with shallot, ginger and chili oil are excellent selections. Some of The Rocks Mornington's main dishes include the green tea noodles in ginger chili soy broth with tempura soft shell crab and snow peas, the slow-braised Otway ranges pork ribs and the grass fed lean black angus cheese burger with asiago cheese, bacon and pickles, all of which are brilliantly prepared. The donut-like profiteroles served with espresso ice cream and chocolate makes an irresistible meal ender.
The Rocks Mornington is also a local favorite for holding special events, be it corporate functions or romantic weddings.
We had a wonderful evening - with family members aged 9 to 70 all happy! Great fresh fish, wonderful views & friendly staff.
Love The Rocks.
Service is always good.
I always opt for the deck, the outlook over the pier and bay is fantastic.
Amazing food. Fantastic position and very accommodating staff.
Really lovely setting sitting over the pier.
Good attentive service from the young staff.
Not extensive but reasonable wine list.
Four people dinning on the evening about $600 bill with drinks, one ate the grilled lobster and one the 1kg mussels and liked the meals. Other two had the 500g rib eye @$66 per steak and found them average at best.
I'd give it another shot to asess more acurately, but wouldn't be hurrying back there next week.
Most enjoyable night, a little disappointing in that we had booked for outside for 8pm , only to be told a table was not available for a further 15 -20 minutes upon arrival. However a table by the window was eventually fine inside. We thoroughly enjoyed the Feed Me Menu for 2 , and the staff were attentive and courteous all night. The Mussels and the Kingfish were excellent. Will definitely return in the future.
The food was fresh and delicious. Service was outstanding- very friendly staff. The whole aesthetics of the restaurant was amazing - beautiful views, breezy and comfy. Just a glorious experience- will definitely be back!
Love the location, food is always tasty and view to just sit back and enjoy. AA+++
Haven't been here in awhile but we were impressed. Good food beautifully prepared and served. What more could you want! (Just a spectacular view - oh wait you get that too!!) Delish!
Delicious food, kind and smiling staff, gorgeous views. It is worth the drive. We enjoyed our visit.
Amazing seafood, on the harbour, creative food options and exceptional service.
Went there for a dinner, we ordered 2 seafood spaghetti. The first one was very good but the second one was very salty, we told the waitress and she asked if she could get us something else so that we ordered dessert. Then the supervisor came to tell us that the chefs thought there was nothing wrong with the dish since they did not add any salt in it. Therefore, they refuse to withdraw the dish from the bill and gave us complimentary dessert instead.
The entrees are great. The lobster special was tasteless and bland.
Great spot, good service
Food and service was average. Casual restaurant but with great views. Not worth the drive from Rosebud though.
The food was well done but there was a lack of seafood this time. Sign of the times maybe
After booking for 8 people through the booking app we were all set to enjoy an evening at one of our favourite venues on the Mornington Peninsula. We were seated, ordered wine and our food. Despite trying to catch the wait staff's eye so that they could attend to us with the exemplary table service, our glasses were left uncollected and cluttered the table. This was complicated when our food arrived. When we received our mains there was a 20-minute delay from the time the first plate was sent out to the last. Whilst waiting for the last meal, the earlier served meals went cold. There was also quite a lag between our mains and the sides being served. We waited a considerable time for the plates to be cleaned up and then desserts to be brought out. When it was the time the settle the bill the staff asked how our evening had been. My parents answered truthfully and said the service was very slow and unattentive and that we were particularly disappointed as we had overseas and interstate guests and our experience was less than satisfactory. This was met with excuses of 'we were really busy' and an explanation that 'there was another function on in the yacht club next door' for which they were also catering. Given the nature of the yacht club function, it was highly likely that this was a scheduled event and so The Rocks had time to ensure the appropriate number of kitchen and wait staff. There was another large group and the wait staff were very attentive to them so it was confusing as to why they were too busy to provide the level of table service that is expected when you dine at The Rocks. At the end of the night, our group was thoroughly disappointed by the lacklustre table service, unsympathetic service staff and the excuses that flowed rather than simply acknowledging what our experience was and apologising. This was our favourite, go - to venue for fine dining in Mornington but it will no longer be so.
The foods were ok, but on a pricey side for what they are. The dumplings were surprisingly good; the split bbq prawns were disappointing, not only they were overpriced, they were not fresh enough.
We had a lovely lunch. The food was wonderful and the seafood was fresh. Service was good but not amazing, a little slow but polite and friendly. It was a bit hot for comfort in the restaurant. It was a hot day and there didn’t appear to be good air conditioning. Overall however we loved it!
Always delicious and the view never gets old.
When it’s busy it’s very hard to have a conversation, it’s very noisy. It also gets really hot in summer, even if it’s cooler at night the building retains heat. It could use some ceiling fans at the very least.
Awesome afternoon, always relaxing and Jackie (hope that's your spelling) did a great job of table service as always! Thank you!
Food was great but service was disappointing unfortunately. This is my second visit to the restaurant. I had the same experience the first time.
It was getting a bit cold that night and we were sitting in the outdoor area, I had to ask 3 time to get someone to bring the blinds down. We had to follow up few times regarding our drinks order.
We always look forward to dinner at The Rocks, especially its setting and the high quality local seafood.
Salmon Nigiri was delicious, excellent service will definitely return
Best Dumplings and fresh seafood around by far with a Asian twist 👍
Sevice on point, and food was delicious and quick to come out. Food teamed well with drinks.
Incredible fresh, local seafood and a beautiful view of the port. A must if you’re on the Peninsula.
Excellent food! Excellent ambience!!! Perfect for the summer dinner with friends
We love going to The Rocks normally. However last Friday it was hot and the fan was not working on the deck. We had a pram and the lift was not working so we had to manage the pram down the stIairs with help. Overall it was noisy but we could cope with that. However the food was good but not up to its normal standard so perhaps the main chef is away and a little expensive for size of fish ordered
Great fresh seafood. The ice plate comes highly recommended.
Food and venu great. Service good from wait staff. Was there for christmas day with 6 guests. Didnt get a Merry Christmas welcome on arrival...not sure why. No welcome drink. Price at $120 per head. Could drop the 2nd entree for a welcome glass of bubbles and a warm hello on arrival. A bit sterile and too noisy for us with an elserly guest. Only bon bons on table. Didnt feel like XMas to us really which was a bit disappointing . Overall, just good but not wow.
Seafood was not the freshest. Value was bistro level but charged at fine dining level.
Really good food, nice waiting staff and amazing views
iDisappointed with the Wagyu Burger.. it was tasteless. The wait staff were great as was the ambience. Not sure if I would bother to return.
Service was not too good when we arrived as we were forgotten but did pick up and we were given a free drink because of the wait.
Lovely restaurant , great food and excellent food .
Cold. Waiter was lovely but kitchen SOO slow.
Definitely not value for money, if something is very good I am quite willing to pay for it. Disappointed with quality and quantity of some of the meals
One of my favorite restaurants on the Morn Pen! Food never disappoints, service always friendly and efficient. Yummy!
Great location, friendly helpful staff. Am sure good food is served here but on the day we were there food was not bad but a little lacklustre. Oysters could have been so much better. Pasta needed more depth of flavour in the sauce.
Food quality is excellent as is the service, top class! However meals are pricey and serves are small to moderate in size. Excellent views.
The food was lovely service really good lovely view being on the waterfront
