The Rocks Mornington
The Rocks Mornington, sitting on Mornington's waterfront, is a vibrant waterside eatery specializing in tantalizingly fresh seafood dishes with a slew of Asian-inspired plates, served in its relaxing and elegant restaurant. For starters, the hirimasa king fish sashimi with a fennel, apple and ruby grapefruit salad from the raw bar and the vegetable dumplings with shallot, ginger and chili oil are excellent selections. Some of The Rocks Mornington's main dishes include the green tea noodles in ginger chili soy broth with tempura soft shell crab and snow peas, the slow-braised Otway ranges pork ribs and the grass fed lean black angus cheese burger with asiago cheese, bacon and pickles, all of which are brilliantly prepared. The donut-like profiteroles served with espresso ice cream and chocolate makes an irresistible meal ender.
The Rocks Mornington is also a local favorite for holding special events, be it corporate functions or romantic weddings.

My new guy took me here for my birthday & we had a lovely evening all round
Birthday catch-up with family, the food complimented the company perfectly. The ambience and the wine ensured that time flew and before we knew it 2 hours had passed. The waitstaff were excellent attending to our needs, in a completely unobtrusive manner., but there immediately when required. We have already recommended the restaurant to family for future dining occasions.
I HAVE EATEN HERE BEFORE AND IT WAS AMAZING.
WE DECIDED TO TREAT OUR FRIENDS TO A SPECIAL GET TOGETHER AND UNFORTUNATELY THE FOOD WAS NOT UP THE TIME BEFORE. THE FISH WAS DRY AND THE SALMON WAS NOT SLICED THIN BUT CHUNKY SO INSTEAD OF THE CHOPSTICKS YOU DEFINITELY NEEDED A KNIFE AND FORK WHICH SPOIL IT SOMEWHAT. WE WERE GIVEN BREAD BUT NO PLATESBEEN EXPECTED. SO OUR GUESTS HAD TO USES SERVIETTES. AS THE BILL WAS $255.00, (there were 4 entrees and 2 mains) A BETTER DAYS OUT AND MEAL WOULD HAVE
My husband and I booked a table at the Rocks on a busy Saturday night at 6.30pm. We ordered the tempura soft shelled crab sliders, scallop and prawn dumplings with salmon roe, the mussels in a tomato chilli sauce, chargrilled calamari with roasted red capsicum, the brussels sprouts with yogurt and finally the sweet potato fries with ailoi. We could not fault the food or the fabulous service. We enjoyed every mouthful! My favourite was definitely the crab sliders. Next time we're in Mornington we'll be back.
The ambience was good, the service was friendly and whilst the food was good I felt the menu was rather limited and in parts expensive. Overall a reasonable meal.
The weather was perfect as was the food and service. Loved the table with a magnificent view
Fabulous food, service and ambience thank you I would highly recommend The Rocks to anyone who appreciates good friends and experiences.
I have been brining my friends from
Overseas to The Rocks for years because of foods and atmosphere! This time was very disapointed, was it because my booking was 2pm on Sat? The taste and presentation and quality of two main dishes I used to have; can’t believe using the cheapest meta plate for just a few pieces of seafood, the mussels no longer presented in a pot but on a plate, mussels were tiny, dishes not hot. We are a group of 4 people came al the way from the city and disappointed by the poor food. I asked the waitress whether they have a new chef but no!
Unfortunately we were not able to eat the vegetarian curry dish as there was just too much coriander in the dish. I have never not eaten a meal at a restaurant so this was quite disappointing.
The venue was very noisy also
Otherwise it was a nice evening
Great venue. Reasonable prices for the quality of food and drink. Will definately be back.
Fantastic venue and even better food! Only downside was that booking schedule seems a little rigid/off as we made rang to make a booking for 2 or 2:15 and they said they were fully booked, however when we arrived, there were lots of tables free for the time we were there... weird.
Very disappointed with our overpriced food. The fish and chips were poor, fish was definitely last weeks, so called Waghu burger tasted more like sausage mince. The roll used in soft shell crab slider was stale.
We were there a month ago and it was faultless, not sure why the wheels have fallen off the wagon. Very off putting and we would be nervous to recommend, which is unfortunate as we dine out a lot.
This place couldn’t be in a better spot, great outlook. I found it hard to make a choice owing to the fact the menu was not extensive. Meals were pub like at restaurant prices.
We are regulars.
Went for our anniversary and enjoyed the plentiful food and ambiance very much. Views during summer from the Balcony would enhance the experience even more. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A good night out. Cheers Mark
Not presented with bill at checkout just given total amount. Realised later it could not be right. 100 for 1 course each (not that nice fish and chips) 2 people and 2 glasses of wine. $50 each! Brilliant location but expensive. Food only ok.
Good food and atmosphere. Great place to celebrate with family and friends.
We dine at The Rocks on a regular basis and have never been disappointed. However on this occasion we booked a table for 8 for my birthday (my recommendation) and I felt the food was not up to standard as per normal. Flavours were very bland and felt like the dishes were rushed - presentation of meals were not great as they normally are.
So yes I was a bit disappointed with it all.
Dinner with interstate friends beautiful fresh seafood
I Googled for a top seafood restaurant for a week day lunch, but very disappointed to find the food is quite ordinary, but over priced. The service and the view were good.
I have been to The Rocks on many, many occasions. It was a "go to" for many friends and family.
And I'm prepared to hope that maybe last Friday was just a particularly busy day, despite vacant tables.
Many of us are in hospitality, so we know how it goes if you're understaffed, overbooked etc.
From the onset, just a glib pointer to our table. We weren't offered any drinks but water for 30 minutes. And let's face it, alcohol is mostly where the money is.
There was confusion with a meal that my sister had ordered but was categorically not her fault.
Your front of house was actually patronising and maybe needs to acknowledge that her service is totally inclusive.
We were then over charged at the register.
Love the tasty Japanese fusion menu, healthy and so yummy. Good for sharing or individual plates. Great views over pier, service was friendly and efficient. We love The Rocks.
Thank you a beautiful evening. ......................................,,,
Went to celebrate our anniversary asked for a cosy table and they where happy to oblige. Plus they gave us a complimentary glass of prossecco each which was a lovely surprise. I cannot have salt and again that was no problem for them. It was a very enjoyable night staff where fantastic.
Was here several years ago and the food was fantastic, fresh and creative. This time the food was expensive, bland, nothing impressive and the whole experience was average. Great if you are paying average prices but not so good when a meal is $30-40 and pretty ordinary. Sorry but not one of the better experiences on the peninsula.
Friendly service made the experience memorable in a very scenic location.
Service very good, food okay. Fish wasn't quite cooked and quite expensive.
I thought the food special was lazy. I had four fish on a plate with nothing else.
Lovely lunch with a friend. Delicious dumplings and food. Enjoyed the outside deck, nice and warm with a wonderful Rose.
Entree of 4 tiny mushroom chestnut dumplings was just luke warm and paired with vinegary sauce not the chilli sauce as per menu.
Seafood Spaghetti was oversalted but had the chilli element.
Service was good but no customer recovery for the dumplings disappointment .
Overall for a special birthday lunch I left very disappointed.
Menu very disappointing........not many choices and thought the cost was over the top
Especially when you pay $34.00 for fish and chips.
Great venue, the young lady who served us was outstanding. The view, and surrounding area is really picturesque. Parking on a Sunday can be problematic.
Decor doesn’t fit the menu prices - food was nice but not exceptional and wine list very overpriced . Years ago the decor suited an upmarket reataurant suitable for special occasions . Now I’m not sure why they separate the verandah area from the rest of restaurant . Few more non seafood options would be nice as well. Service was excellent though and all in all we enjoyed the evening . Would rush back to spend the money though .
I have lived in the peninsula area for 35years this was my first visit to the rocks - I can promise you it will not be my last. My wife was having a birthday but does not like the fanfare so we kept it to ourselves, she and I had a fantastic experience.
Great food and a fantastic atmosphere and very friendly staff.
My Wife and I had a lovely time, as we always do when we visit The Rocks. This is all you want when dining out. Good service, great food and quality wine to wash it down with.
Had lunch on Queens birthday Monday with the family. Great view, good ambience, friendly service and fantastic food. Had the Sashimi, Oysters, Rocks Taco and Salmon Betel Leaf for Entree. For mains had a mix of things - including some small plates. The boys polished off the Crab Slider and Burger. We had the Salmon teriyaki and Gyoza - all the dishes were very tasty and the use of fresh ingredients was noticeable. Finished with the Profitteroles and Crumble - my younger one was prepared to lick the chocolate sauce off the plate! Only slight complaint was the portion sizes were a bit small - but maybe we felt it because we had more entrees and small plates to share and only one main.
I booked a table for 9 people for my mother’s 70th birthday which was stated in the booking. I booked the table quite a few weeks in advance.
Upon arrival we were seated on a SHARED table with 4 other guests who looked like they were dressed to hang out at the Bayside Shopping Centre.
There were other tables available where they could have been sat. Why would you place our group with other guests when it wasn’t even that busy?!
The lighting was too dim and the salt shakers were just from a supermarket.
I ordered the mussels which were delicious but I thought this was an award winning seafood restaurant? The menu just didn’t flow. A bit of seafood, a bit of steak, a bit of Thai and a bit of Chinese. Confusing and odd.
Our waitress was lovely and accommodating.
Personally don’t understand how this restaurant got its reputation. I wouldn’t go back.
Staff were very attentive , food and drinks were fantastic, views also great.
Last time we were very impressed, this time we were charged $7.90 for still water & $7.90 for sparkling :(
I ordered salmon belly which was only $9 (same price as seafood taco which i was satisfied with last time) salmon belly was the size of half of my thumb & looked pretty pathetic when it was placed in front of me.
