The Rocks Mornington
The Rocks Mornington, sitting on Mornington's waterfront, is a vibrant waterside eatery specializing in tantalizingly fresh seafood dishes with a slew of Asian-inspired plates, served in its relaxing and elegant restaurant. For starters, the hirimasa king fish sashimi with a fennel, apple and ruby grapefruit salad from the raw bar and the vegetable dumplings with shallot, ginger and chili oil are excellent selections. Some of The Rocks Mornington's main dishes include the green tea noodles in ginger chili soy broth with tempura soft shell crab and snow peas, the slow-braised Otway ranges pork ribs and the grass fed lean black angus cheese burger with asiago cheese, bacon and pickles, all of which are brilliantly prepared. The donut-like profiteroles served with espresso ice cream and chocolate makes an irresistible meal ender.
The Rocks Mornington is also a local favorite for holding special events, be it corporate functions or romantic weddings.
We booked hoping to use our goodfood restaurant card as it was listed as a restaurant that participated in this. After we had finished our meals and went to pay we were informed The Rocks no longer was involved. We had to pay the bill with our credit card and left feeling pretty disgruntled.
Great food and setting. Only complaint the state of the toilets.
Always good value, best around here, especially on a nice night eating on the balcony.
We dinned on Saturday night and we both had an absolutely amazing time! We are from way back around near Horsham and cannot Thankyou enough for the night. Definitely will be back at some stage!
We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the restaurant. We have already recommended it to my daughter and a friend. We will return.
Loved it but the table we were on was sooo small for 4 people!
Great food and service spaghetti marinara best I’ve had for a long time heaps of seafood
Beatle leaf salmon great and soft shell crab slider awesome
Great Location, view and quality of food. Service slack though and should be improved. If charging Melbourne CBD prices equal or better service should be the norm!
Arrived with my 100 year old father and were led to an indoor seat as, predictably, all the balcony tables were booked. It was very noisy and I apologised to him as I knew he wouldn’t be able to converse at all. Without my asking, the young sever immediately offered to see if anything was about to become available outside. There was, on the end of a table away from the noise. It made such a difference to our overall experience. Then the food, which was delicious and THEN the profiteroles! Oh. Worth going just for them!
We booked for Valentine’s Day, with a set menu. We had a great time, and the staff were lovely. But unfortunately The Rocks was just not able to deliver service or food worth anywhere near the $100 per head they were charging. Really out of their depth.
There was quite a queue at the door, with no organisation. Just a general press to try to catch someone’s eye to be seated - despite everything being prebooked and prepaid.
Our table was initially completely overlooked, with no one coming to take drinks orders. We had to flag someone down.
The starters were small, dumplings weren’t heated properly, and the claim of “oysters and prawns” turned out to be one oyster, and one prawn.
The seafood main was essentially finger food. Just designed to be quick and easy. The sashimi and singular prawn were delicious, but the rest was really underwhelming.
The lamb shoulder main was really bad. Precooked and reheated, very dry and chewy. My first was sent back, only to receive another that tasted much the same. Couldn’t bring myself to complain a second time. Again, staff were lovely, but the quality simply wasn’t there.
Dessert (which cost extra) was delicious.
Our dinner for two ended up costing $250 (including drinks and dessert), which is enough money to dine at some of the world’s finest. The Rocks, despite their best intentions, simply failed to deliver here.
I get the impression they’d be much better on a less busy night, with the regular menu in place.
I love the Rocks. I have been numerous times. But after my last meal. I felt sick half the night. My wife felt sick Well. I figure in our day and age, and quality of restaurant. I do not believe this should happen
The service was very lacking...we requested a window seat only to be to told they were booked .. no one showed up for the remainder of the evening to claim the “booking” therefore we sat as a small table of 4 amongst two extremely large tables of 10 & 12 with no ‘ambiance’ at all for a restaurant known for its amazing location. Service took forever! Both to take our order and to deliver our drinks. The food was boring. I had the grilled swordfish with pistachio crust and it was OK at the most. The seafoood spaghetti was very nice but a little on the small side. The Duck buns were delicious. The kids both enjoyed their spaghetti Napoli.
My husband was given a gift voucher for The Rocks for his 50th bday so we were really looking forward to it...the outcome didn’t match the expectation unfortunately.
We didn't get the window table that we asked for which was disappointing
Food was variable. Of a party of 4 - 3 of them were very happy with their food. The 4th not so happy. the swordfish dish was ordinary
But the restaurant is well positioned for bay views and obvious from the crowd that it is very popular
Food average And over priced
$66 for rib eye
Service for drinks waited 25 mins for a second drink which I cancelled in the end
We have dined at the rocks on a number of occasions and it never disappoints. Great Spaghetti Seafood, great service and a great setting
Lovely lunch all round, fresh seafood, great service! Well worth the drive from Melbourne! Would def recommend!
We booked at the rocks for my mums birthday, it was a very hot day and inside the restaurant felt like there was no air conditioning at all it was dark and dingy. We changed our seats for outside which was a bit better. What disappointed me was that since we came a bit late and close to closing the staff made no effort to check in on use when everyone was at the table.. the menus were not detailed enough to say what was in the dishes and were very vague
2 scallops for 12 dollars seems a bit dear, but overall a good dining exp.
have eaten at the Rocks both at lunch time and dinner. We all ordered the fish and chips for diner and I had it also the lunch time visit. The lunch meal was by far superior to the dinner. The dinner portion seemed smaller with less fish, less chips and a very small cos lettuce half. Whilst dinner was enjoyable in comparison to the lunch version I had had it was disappointing.
The male waiter that seated us was very rude. I had book an outside table and for one of the two times available (online),I was seated inside. When I advised him I booked for outside I was told even though I had a booking there wasn’t really any room for us despite a few empty tables inside and outside (that we could see)
We watched him turn away a large group as they didn’t have a booking if he would of asked them to wait down stairs or go for a walk they could of been seated.
There was a dreadful woman at the next table that was laughing very loudly and disturbing other tables that were talking. Our waiter was lovely, the others seemed untrained and kept referring us back to our waiters who was busy. It was also disappointing when they ran out of one of the specials.
The seafood was amazing and fresh. The desserts didn’t disappoint.
Fantastic dinner - couldn’t have wished for more. Great night with amazing view!
Stunning views, fantastic atmosphere and service, delicious fresh seafood, always a winner every time!
Servings were extremely small.
Smallest scallops we have ever seen. Actually laughable at the size of them.
Sashimi was nice and fresh.
Husband enjoyed ceviche and grilled prawns.
White wine mussels. Extremely salty broth. Mussels were served missing the bread explained on the menu, then was brought out a small stick of dry bread when realised not on plate. Other tables getting grilled bread with their Mussels. Disappointing.
Chips were good though!
Food and wine was excellent. View, table and ambience equally wonderful. Only downfall was the kitchen stopped taking orders at 8:45 (we had an 8:00pm booking on a Friday night) and staff seemed keen to wrap up and staff their knock of drinks.
Staff was lovely and food took a reasonable time to come out. We got the frittura, Mornington mussels and Rock Burger and they were all lovely. Great view and atmosphere was slightly busy but nice to be in
Was nice food but not very welcoming on arrival left standing for a while
Outstanding food and service. Will be back again highly recommendable
We had a wonderful evening - with family members aged 9 to 70 all happy! Great fresh fish, wonderful views & friendly staff.
Love The Rocks.
Service is always good.
I always opt for the deck, the outlook over the pier and bay is fantastic.
Amazing food. Fantastic position and very accommodating staff.
great service, lovely food, beautiful view. enjoyed a birthday celebration & will be back.
Really lovely setting sitting over the pier.
Good attentive service from the young staff.
Not extensive but reasonable wine list.
Four people dinning on the evening about $600 bill with drinks, one ate the grilled lobster and one the 1kg mussels and liked the meals. Other two had the 500g rib eye @$66 per steak and found them average at best.
I'd give it another shot to asess more acurately, but wouldn't be hurrying back there next week.
Most enjoyable night, a little disappointing in that we had booked for outside for 8pm , only to be told a table was not available for a further 15 -20 minutes upon arrival. However a table by the window was eventually fine inside. We thoroughly enjoyed the Feed Me Menu for 2 , and the staff were attentive and courteous all night. The Mussels and the Kingfish were excellent. Will definitely return in the future.
The food was fresh and delicious. Service was outstanding- very friendly staff. The whole aesthetics of the restaurant was amazing - beautiful views, breezy and comfy. Just a glorious experience- will definitely be back!
Love the location, food is always tasty and view to just sit back and enjoy. AA+++
Haven't been here in awhile but we were impressed. Good food beautifully prepared and served. What more could you want! (Just a spectacular view - oh wait you get that too!!) Delish!
Delicious food, kind and smiling staff, gorgeous views. It is worth the drive. We enjoyed our visit.
Amazing seafood, on the harbour, creative food options and exceptional service.
Went there for a dinner, we ordered 2 seafood spaghetti. The first one was very good but the second one was very salty, we told the waitress and she asked if she could get us something else so that we ordered dessert. Then the supervisor came to tell us that the chefs thought there was nothing wrong with the dish since they did not add any salt in it. Therefore, they refuse to withdraw the dish from the bill and gave us complimentary dessert instead.
The entrees are great. The lobster special was tasteless and bland.
Great spot, good service
