The Rob Roy Hotel

Sketches of the original Rob Roy Hotel date back to 1850. It was first licensed by Robert Peter ten years earlier in 1840, making it second only to the Queen’s Head in North Adelaide as the longest continuously operating hotel in Adelaide. The hotel is named for the famous Scottish outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor. This 18th Century Robin Hood was immortalized in Sir Walter Scott’s biography (1817) and more recently in the 1995 film Rob Roy, starring Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange. Adelaide’s Rob Roy Hotel was built in stages that provide a clue to its longevity. It is one of the oldest hotel buildings in the city. It ranks in importance with the Queens Head in Kermode Street, North Adelaide, Prince Albert in Wright Street and the former Beresford Arms in Gilles Street. It's the perfect spot for social dining that brings people together, where the outside seeps in and the community begins.

We were there for a Fringe show last Saturday night. They were seriously under the pump, and possibly understaffed, but the bar and kitchen staff were doing a fantastic job and remained calm and friendly under pressure. Ordered 4 meals (same table), first two came out together and the other two about 15-20 minutes later. Staff were apologetic and gave us a free drink. Not sure what the issue was. Food was tasty and good value.

Brilliant service as we stepped through the door!
Platters were amazing and plenty of food. Burgers were a hit and schnitzels looked fantastic - great dining experience, better than your average pub food - it’s definitely a step up 👍🏼
We had a great night celebrating a birthday - the staff were amazing and enthusiastic

Great choice of meals, really like the options of salad available. Great Greek salad with the meals.

Unfortunate that our meals weren't all that we ordered, but like the location and had a great table and the road noise was no distraction at all. Friendly staff but one got the order wrong.

We went here on a Sunday night as we were staying in the city.

I found the Rob Roy in the Entertainment Book and it was a good pick. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. The food was great. My husbands steak was cooked to perfection and my barramundi was delicious.

We would definitely go again.

Staff were a bit hit and miss. One guy told us he would come take our order and never returned. New guy did take our order and fellow staff member came to clarify the order but then a meal was still forgotten. Bar tender was VERY slow at pouring drinks. All staff were friendly however it just felt a bit disorganised and confusing. Wasn’t an unpleasant experience, just all over the shop.
