The Ragged Cot
Having stood proudly since the 17th Century, the coaching house has an intriguing past filled with highwaymen and pilferage. Recently under new ownership, the Ragged Cot has been lovingly restored to combine authentic countryside tradition with modern style and comfort – with dogs and wellies welcome! The shabby chic interior and deeply comfortable bedrooms are the epitome of countryside cool.

Food cold, wrong order delivered, service good at start of evening but tailed off. Felt that a young apprentice had produced the dinner as the table next to us looked a lot more appealing.
Food was very good. Portion sizes were Good. Service was fantastic. The restaurant is very nice and then moved to the garden, which in the sunset was stunning.
Relaxing, Chilled & Quite.
Lovely place and very nice food. 3rd visit for me.
We ordered some olives to start with that didn’t arrive! Didn’t want to be nit picky!
Perfect Sunday afternoon! Food was incredible from the quality to the portion size and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. 100% will be returning again soon.
Amazing food and service couldn’t fault just wonderful!
Food was delicious. Very clean an enjoyable experience.
Really tasty food with loads of gluten free options.
Not much choice of times when booked on line, but on arrival seating area very quiet?
Great food but thought main course was a little small, Seafood linguine.
Arrived to a lovely welcome ! Great service and great food , would highly recommend.
We waited for the drinks more then half an hour , we couldn’t order food as waitress told us to wait till someone one else take our orders, finally we had enough of hanging around and just lefts do the drinks still wasn’t on the way SO EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED
SERVICE SLOW EVEN WHEN THE PLACE IS EMPTY , was not many visitors at that day so we left . Instead we went to the lamb place was packed with ppl ( brilliant service we had table in minutes and we had a great time ....
The food was excellent. We all ordered different things and every dish was delicious. The waitress was lovely and the whole evening was great. We will be going back soon!
Delicious meal in great surroundings with attentive staff.
The bottomless brunch deal was great value for money, however the staff were slow in topping up drinks and not clear on options when it came to food, I.e what food came with brunch options. Over priced food for what you got, my friend had the chorizo dish it was like lukewarm chunky soup with under toasted bread and no butter. Did ask to change dish, which the staff did do however items were missing from dishes. Overall okay, but wouldn’t rush to do it again.
Very friendly staff. Good service. Lovely garden setting and good food.
Irina was a fantastic waitress - the quality of the service made up for the mediocre food - very welcome to dogs!
Great food, amazing service and very COVID secure.
Despite the rather drizzly weather we were kept warm by lush blankets and eating underneath the canopy really helped. Staff were attentive and the food was great and didn't take long at all to arrive at our table.
Had a lovely meal, in a lovely place….
Friendly staff. Delicious lunch.
Will definitely return soon.
We asked what the catch of the day was and the waitress didn’t know.
Better to be told when menus are given to you perhaps. Better training I would suggest.
Food was good. Service good. Overall experience, average. It was under new ownership and it wasn’t the sane place as I remember. Things felt a bit neglected. The boiler wasn’t working so no hot water although our room was discounted by 50%. Disappointing.
We had a Lovely meal, it was good value and he great service.
Lovely meal at the Ragged Cot last night, the welcome, the service, the food all excellent and value for money. We will be going back. Thank you Alison
Excellent food and service in a professional but friendly environment
After seeing mixed reviews recently I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was well and truly impressed! The food was gorgeous, plenty of people which created a ‘buzz’ and our waitress was excellent, making sure to check in regularly and even managed to make us an extra special drink which wasn’t on the menu. After a fantastic meal we were able to walk home too..we will definitely be back!
Very friendly staff. Always makes a good place great.
Great food & service
Our first meal with friends since restrictions lifted on 17th May & we felt very safe & Covid guidelines were adhered to. The food & service was excellent. Waitress was excellent but did not get her name. Thank you for making our first meal in nearly a year outstanding
Have the best time , food is Divine!! Service great
All really lovely.
Amazing great food loving setting quiet and not too expensive
It could be better . The quality of the ingredients need an improvement
Good varied menu, excellent service and good value for money. Wine list good but would like to see English Sparkling, Red and White Wines. Pleasant surroundings.
The food which when we last visited 2 years ago, was superb now seems distinctly average , its so frustrating, a place changes ownership and the once reliable quality dissappears out the window, furniture looked and felt tired , just no point returning there again now as the drive there isn't worth the effort, I felt sad leaving as this happens all too often
Service not great - a little slow and the waiter forgot to order our sides so they came out when we’d nearly finished our meal. The quality of ingredients and the meal overall was really good. We will return once COVID restrictions have lifted.
The food was brilliant probably best breakfast I've had. Bottomless brunch was worth the money for the amount of drinks we had, definitely have that again.
Good service and good food made for a very enjoyable lunch even though it was a little cold to be eating outside.
Went on May Bank Holiday. Despite the absolutely horrendous weather we had a great time. The service was brilliant and the food was also very nice! Thanks for still being so hospitable and friendly despite the cold and wind and rain!
Excellent service and food in difficult circumstances. Only [small] gripe was blue re: steak came out medium rare, but was still lovely!
The food was OK but not outstanding for the price, however the really awful aspect of our dining experience was the disgusting smell from the sewers that kept wafting across from the drains in the garden. I spoke to friends about this afterwards and it appears its not unusual.
A mixture of families eating and groups going for it on the £25 all you can drink in 2 hours. Not for me , went for a family meal but really an odd place. I went a few years ago and really enjoyed it , yes it was outside this time but I wouldn’t go back I’m afraid.
Not easy to create a good dining experience with open doors on a cold day but the Ragged Cot did its best to achieve a pleasant time during the reopening in tricky times. All in all a good lunch.
