Great food and good vibe!
Lovely light dinner with fantastic atmosphere. It felt like a small quaint restaurant just steps from all the hustle if Times Square.
This quaint little pub/bistro/restaurant inside the Merrion Row boutique hotel was lovely. It was quiet enough for good conversation, yet upbeat and lively enough for a birthday celebration date. Our server Amanda was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly without ever being obtrusive. And, the crab cake was delicious and the mocktails make us forget that they were not alcohol based. Refreshing! This little gem of a restaurant is the perfect date spot, pre dinner theater bite or with a group of friends who just wants to relax and enjoy a pleasant vibe and great food. Everyone there that we met, manager, front desk person, support staff was incredibly nice. We will be back.
Everything was fine, was located near a show we were going to see. Not delicious but very edible.
Hidden treasure. One of our quiet go-tos for a quiet meal before or after a show.
Great small gem tucked away on 45th street. Worth the visit!
Great service and very nice restaurant. I sent my Halibut dinner back because it was over cooked. Came back the same way. They compensated by offering free drinks or dessert.
Perfect pre-theatre experience.
We sat in the enclosed area outside of the bar. It was filled with light and such a nice place to be. My son and I could not have had better service and both of our meals were delicious. The bar area was noisy than where we were. I would definitely go back especially great for before an evening show.
This was our first time at The Public House and we’ll definitely be back! The food was delicious and flavorful, the service was fantastic. Our waitress Amanda, and assistant William ensured we always had full glasses of water and prompt drink refills. The menu has choices for all palates and preferences, and the prices are very reasonable...especially for the neighborhood. The ambiance is comfortable...I’d definitely recommend sitting in the back room because it’s brightly lit with the lovely glass ceiling.
We’ll definitely be back!
Could be one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. We made our reservation 1 month ago on Open Table. When we arrived, we were seated at a table outside the dining room in the lobby of the hotel. No apologies! Very poorly handled. I will not go back and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are many better options in the neighborhood.
Great meal and venue early in evening but very noisy and crowded by 7. Also younger crowd than usual theater crowd. Still i would definitely go again but with a larger group!
Excellent food and service. And beautiful atmosphere too. Great value.
Hidden Gem Excellent Food and Service Too. Close to theaters
Dinner was awesome and so was the staff!
This was a nice find for pre theater dinner. Food was very good and the seating in the back room was nice and sunny
This is a lovely dining room and bar with warm and wonderful service; some of the food wasn't quite up to the surroundings and the staff. The restaurant and lobby area were an oasis on one of the busiest streets in Times Square - a complete surprise and a very beautiful, comfortable and serene place. The staff were genuine, friendly and alert. The menu was interesting, but the food was uneven both in conception and preparation: the salads were A plus plus - well conceived and well executed. Some of the dishes - for example, the 'gazpacho' soup- were odd - one diner said it was exactly like "salsa" - spicy, thick and one dimensional. The fish in the fish and chips was unidentifiable and oddly textured; the chips were great. Better entrees were the pork chop and the chicken curry. Desserts - a little dome of chocolate mousse, and a special of a soft chocolate chip cookie - were terrific. Prices were typical for the area, and we were out in plenty of time for a 730 curtain, but I wished we loved the food more.
Lovely — went with a friend during early dinner hour so it was quiet. Space had clean modern lines, an excellent menu, and the jalapeno margarita we had was delicious (first was more fiery than the 2nd though, which is my one critique). Intend to go again as it was lovely and food we ordered was really good.
Everything about our breakfast was fantastic. Sit in the enclosed outdoor area.
My guest was 30 mins late but it was no problem at all. Staff are really excellent and very accommodating here. Food was superb and prices are very reasonable. The dining area in the conservatory area is really lovely. Can't say enough good things about this place and will definitely return.
Oasis in Times Square
Maybe it hasn't been discovered yet, but we had a lovely, quiet, reasonably priced lunch in a covered courtyard mere steps from 45th street and the hurly-burly of Times Square. My salad was terrific, the service lovely, and I will return.
In a row of Times Square Irish bar/restaurants, this is a standout. Kind of a hidden entrance attached to a hotel, but once you step inside, the room is very attractive, with a glassed in sunroom in the back so you can be on a patio in all weather. I went for lunch and had a delicious salad with toasted quinoa; I added salmon on top and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a full tranche of salmon that would have been fine as a standard portion by itself. My friend really enjoyed her salad with grilled chicken. And it was better and only a dollar or two more than the dark Irish bars nearby. We didn't try any sides or desserts, but would definitely return.
A hidden gem in the theatre district -- they could use a few more veggie options, regardless a yummy evening.
Loved the beautiful garden room, the warm service and great menu.
The glassed in dining room was lovely and the service pleasing. We were the only table for a while, then another table filled. The food was good but the ability to talk and hear each other in the light-filled room was the best. We were there for lunch.
We went to the Public House because the reviews said it was Quiet. We were unable to understand each other. The reverberation from the glass ceiling and walls was awful. My fish and chips were excellent but the flattened chicken was very dry.
We were welcomed & sat in a lovely room that felt like we were on a patio but indoors. Food was delicious and fresh. Great for lunch before theatre.
Highly recommend this little gem tucked away in the theater district. Great pre or after meal when attending the theater!
Great place to pop in to before the theatre. Clean, quiet for midtown. We had some service/kitchen issues but everything was resolved properly. Upscale and better than average Irish fare mixed with traditional American and what’s fresh. Great value!!
First time here. I had the sear roasted halibut with orange salsa and broccolini. The first was perfectly seasoned and delicious. The broccolini stalks were a little tough. My husband had the Gaelic chicken which was a breaded cutlet topped with arugula and cherry tomatoes. The chicken was tender and the arugula was a perfect topping.
I tried ordering an apple martini the apple mixer was not available. Suggested was a lemon martini. I think they forgot the vodka. Very weak.
The thing was John was the waiter and bartender. He should have a good understanding of the menu and how dishes are prepared. He didn't. He was kept very busy and rushed.
They need to have a bartender who only tends to the bar. Other than that John was personable and as attentive as he could be. He didn't seem perturbed at being so busy.
We may try this place again in the future.
All perfect except wish the fries were not frozen! Everything impeccable and great attention to detail. Fresh cut fries would make it a perfect post theatre place. Loved the back deck and pretty bar. Lovely hostess and attentive servers. Will be back, but please, fresh French fries!
A lovely and tranquil oasis just off of times square. Only glitch was perfumy hotel lobby smell in front dining room which gave my sensitive-nosed son a headache.
The ambiance was very nice. I loved the rustic decor. Our waitress, Amanda, was a sweetheart, and the food was delicious! I definitely recommend the shepherd's pie!
I ended up organizing a last-minute ladies brunch for 12-14 women with some coming in and out for a Thursday morning breakfast. The Public House was not only able to accommodate this but we were also extremely well taken care of and the noise level was excellent so we could actually hear one another! Rare to find for such a last minute get together in the city (or in general in NYC). The general manager, Mark, introduced himself afterwards and let us know we would always be welcome back. I’ll be planning more events at The Public House for sure! Incredible all around :)
A small but mighty venue. Diverse menu and very goid food. Pleasant staff.
Dined at this lovely place for a pre-matinee meal. It is so different from the very loud, touristy spots in the area. Attentive service, delicious food, bright, cheery and casual atmosphere. Almost didn't want to write this review and reveal this gem of a place. I will definitely be going back.
Excellent service and food. A true gem in midtown, which is very difficult to find.
We arrived early for our noon reservation and we were seated immediately in the back area (looks like a garden room and very pretty). We were given time to review our choices and ask questions. Our food was delicious and we were not rushed and were able to enjoy a leisurely lunch between sisters. The place was clean and even though there were other diners the noise level was low as no one had to compete with loud music to have a conversation. I thought the cost was reasonable. I would go back again.
Excellent business lunch restaurant. The glass patio in the back is very nice!
This was a pleasant find in the TSQ area, it doesn't feel at all like you are in the middle of that madness. We sat in a cute back area, which has a clear covered roof, so it's sort of like being outside, but not exposed to elements. It wasn't crowded, they had a lovely and authentically Irish staff and the food was really good. It's also very reasonably priced. A great pre-theater meal discovery!
