The Promenade Café - Hyatt Hotel Canberra
A good place to relax after the excitement of a stimulating talk in the Canberra Room. For this solo diner, the dinner buffet selection is very good and the choices of wine by the glass more than adequate. The atmosphere is extremely pleasant and the staff courteous and helpful. High tea is another experience I highly recommend as a perfect way to spend a Friday afternoon with friends.
That a welcoming drink and tea and coffee were not included in the exorbitant Fathers’s Day lunch @ $85 a person was most disappointing and parsimonious.
I wouldn't be dining here again as the quality of the buffet was extremely poor and relatively NOTHING for young children to eat. (We had to buy from the kids menu and the chicken sticks were that hard and dry they were inedible). Roast pork extremely fatty and the crackle rubbery. Not enough sides to go with roasts.
Nice relaxing atmosphere fine food and fine service friendly staff that look after all your needs
Extremely happy with service. My wife was celebrating a birthday and was certainly surprised when cake with"happy Birthday' was sung by staff and patrons
Exceeded my expectations! The meal was a taste sensation and the service second to none. Could not fault the evening. Everything was perfect and cannot wait to dine there again
We have been to this venue a couple of times a year for special occasions. The food selections have dropped and this time the service was a bit lacking. We ordered cocktails when we arrived and it took around 20 minutes for them to be delivered.
Nice relaxed. Good food
The Promenade Café is a very pleasant venue, the food is good and the service is excellent. However dining would be vastly improved if the plates for the hot dishes were warm. Good restaurants are equipped with some sort of plate-warming equipment. Cold plates make hot food cold very quickly.
Good quality food, could be better for vegetarians, efficient staff and nice setting
I was disappointed, it was not the Hyatt of old, it was just old! Drinks took far too long to arrive and the buffet just didn’t excite. The promenade used to be a great destination dining experience. But it is just tired now.
staff were friendly and professional. They make the whole lunch experience a real pleasure.
What can I say, everything was just as one would want when one goes out for a special occasion
Dining at the buffet this week for a special occasion the food was definitely not value for money. The roast was dry and way undercooked. Food tags were very hard to read so did not know what the dishes were. Some of the cakes in the dessert display were very dry and the sliced melon looked old. We definitely did not get a meal worth $58 each and $30 for two glasses of house white wine is ridiculous! Plus the GST added to the bill!! Would look at a better valued meal elsewhere before returning
Nothing made it special!
For a seafood buffet it was very mediocre for the cost.
Also the variety of seafood was minimalist.
The service was amateurish for a place like the Hyatt.
The Hyatt is generally good to very good however it is changing. There used to be table cloths and a bit more elegance. Some small details like the cheese selection were not very good and it seems to be less exclusive and becoming "Cheap and Cheerful"
A very rude staff member chased us through the hotel accusing us of not paying after I had signed the account and charged it to the room perhaps check you facts before accusing your customers of this I would not recommend this place or return to it .
Food was average for the cost .
The buffet was quite expensive and the food was ok but not as good as you’d expect for the price. The service was also ok and it seemed like there weren’t enough staff on for the amount of people there. Overall ok but probably won’t go back too soon.
not special, actually my husband and I were very embarrassed to bring our guest to Canberra to your establishment which we have been to over the years and slowly watched it diminish into the rubbish we were forced to endure on Saturday night.
The staff made us feel welcome and the food was excellent.
Started with cocktails at Griffin's: Friendly and accomodating barman made great effort to create lamington cocktail for my wife, which got a "beautiful" rating from her. Excellent service.
Then dinner at the Promenade Cafe: Superb service, very cosy booth and the most helpful waitress and chef I have encountered. Two excellent meals, wonderful wine and very reasonable price for the quality.
Finished at The Tea Lounge: Excellent service, delicious cake and coffee in relaxed surrounds.
Staff are very helpful, always with a smile .
Great food and service. Went on the seafood night, but only one hot seafood dish offered. Harissa Ling. Would have liked some chowder, hot salmon or seafood mornay dish. Still, beautiful oysters snd prawns.
Food very poor! Value for money nil!!
Would never eat there again.
We had our wedding lunch here and a year later came back for an anniversary dinner. The seafood buffet was excellent. Prawns, oysters and crab was fresh, sweet and succulent.
As Muslims, we were impressed that all the meat is halal, although there was one pork dish. Even the desserts use halal gelatin and are alcohol free.
The atmosphere is exceptional
Dessert and the sea food buffet were remarkable
Salad bar was very good
The roast potatoes with bacon and roast pork were delicious
Service was good; staff were very friendly, helpful and polite
The hot food buffet could do with a little more flavour.
Price is reasonable for the variety of food provided and service. Round it up to $80. $78 is an unbalanced figure.
Excellent seafood buffet, always very good. Hot buffet was a bit ordinary, needs inspiration. Dessert buffet also very good.
I decided to take my daughter for a special treat for her birthday and ordered from the buffet. I would recommend the Hyatt as they have that “wow” factor with friendly well trained staff.
My wife and I chose the Hyatt Hotel Canberra to celebrate her birthday. The ambiance was unique and the staff very warm and welcoming.
The food was first class, as was the wine.
We were delighted when a waitress brought a birthday cake slice, on the house’ and sang ‘happy birthday’ to Heather. In all a special ocassion leaving great memories.
Enjoyed the meal but was not well when I returned home. Something, not identified, upset my system. Still feeling a bit wobbly.
We've been there four times for the seafood buffet. Love it!
We were at the late sitting on a Friday night and some of the dishes on the buffet were either finished or not much left. The quality of the food was very good and we enjoyed celebrating a milestone birthday there.
Had same waiter the whole night who done a amazing job at keeping our glasses full and taking empty plates once finished. Our waiter went out of his way to find the answer to our question.
The food was unreal worth every cent spent.
Great freindly staff, food fresh, replentished, comfprtable seating, good atmosphere
Having eaten at the promenade cafe many times we were very disappointed this time given the price the seafood selection was average and this was seafood night the prawns were fresh but tasteless the salmon was dry we had to wait for plates at the buffet to be topped up a waitress told us she would bring a plate of prawns to our table she forgot both the salad and dessert bar selection was well below what we’ve had in the past our previous dining experience had been faultless this was disappointing for us and the Hyatt
The salmon is wonderful. I don't know what the chef does :-)
There was a great variety of food to suit all tastes. They food was topped up regularly. There was a great selection of sea food, salads, make your own salad bar, hot food, home made soup and fresh crusty bread and the deserts were amazing. The staff were friendly, polite and efficient. The dining room was beautifully presented, clean and well maintained.
Our dining experience was exceptional. The variety of the buffet was amazing and thoroughly enjoyable
Nice meals and recommend for Buffet. I do really enjoy having Buffet there..
The buffet was value for money with a wide selection of quality foods. You could have a 5 course meal. Plenty of choice and you can 'build' your own salad or dessert if you want. Staff were attentive.
