I booked this restaurant for celebrating the Chinese traditional Valentine‘s day ,but the point do not open to us . The manager says it just for group! So we tast their sister restaurant Sichuan food, ordered two rice haven’t come but we also paid it. Bad memorise!!!
Beautiful location and food. The service is excellent and that makes all the difference when there are so many restaurants to choose from. Thanks.
The overall impression from entering the premises was engaging and impressive.
The most unusual menu set up. It was a set menu for 2 or 3 courses, but then you could add on, at a cost, sides, an appetizer or if you wanted a steak. Therefore if you wanted a steak you had to add on the cost (i.e. $40) on top of your meal cost! It was very strange.
The drinks cart at the start was great.
The Point is pretty fancy. It was quiet when we were there, with perhaps 10 other dinners there, I assume that on Fridays and weekends it would be a bit busier and perhaps a bit noisier, but I can't imagine it ever gets too loud in there. The atmosphere is quiet and elegant with views out over Albert Park Lake - once its dark these views aren't as good, but there are still city views to take in.
The food was excellent although the menu could probably be described as little limited especially if you aren't into seafood. The desert menu could probably do with an update that doesn't involve just adding weird flavoured sorbet or popping candy to 70's style deserts, but that's a seriously minor niggle and most people would be very happy with the desert selection.
The service was mostly excellent except for the fact that we were still waiting to see their extensive wine list when our mains were served. So by the time we'd finally received a wine list and made a decision our mains had gone a little cold. Obviously this was sub-optimal, honestly I probably should have dinged them more than 1 star because it did seriously ruin the whole flow of the evening, however the rest of the service was great so I'm hoping it was a one off oversight and not a regular occurrence.
We appreciated the quality of service and knowledgeable staff.
Very professional service and lovely ambience as well as good food.
Excellent service. Staff were polite, professional and had good knowledgeable of menu. The food was well presented with creativity and attention to detail, and taste was good. Very extensive and quality wine list. The restaurant has lost some of old charm and character (with half dining space now set up as a different restaurant - same owner) and was lacking some atmosphere -
some classical piano or light instrumental music would help. Nonetheless we enjoyed our evening. Staff service was really good.
Did not disappoint. Amazing food. The only downside was my dessert was a bit hard. But I will be back for sure
The Point is a very interesting idea A great location with excellent service and ambiance
The selection of food is fantastic and its presentation unbelievable The amount of food left me slightly underdone though my wife was "full". The cost of basic drinks was a little high though expected from a class restaurant
The service was very good with the waiting staff being unoticable
I would go again but only with a change of menu (something different)
Thank you for a different experience
The service was impeccable; attentive but not intrusive. Both the waiter and sommelier were knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. No snobbery. The food (we had the 7-course degustation with matching wines) was interesting without being outlandish, and tasty. The various courses made an enjoyable progression, and the wines were well-matched. We were asked about pacing of the meal, and the timing worked well - enough time to enjoy each dish and wine, and chat a little, but neither rushed nor wondering whether we'd been forgotten. Every dish was attractively and appetisingly presented. We went for an anniversary, and it was eminently suitable for the occasion. While we wouldn't go frequently, we'll certainly return from time to time. We don't have photos to upload, as we preferred to enjoy the meal and each others company rather than take photos of the food.
Had a birthday dinner for my wife at The Point and tried their course menu. Everything was very original, delicious, and beautifully presented. At the start of the meal, I asked if we could change tables to optimize our view of the lake, and one of the team members had no problem with it—he helped us move. We had two small kids with us, and the team treated them well. I was able to take kids outside before the food was served to get their energy out before they settled in. The restaurant is at one of the best possible locations in Melbourne for atmosphere / view; the interior is well designed, with music & lighting to match. This is easily the best food I've had in Australia so far.
We’ve been to this restaurant before the change of management to Chinese owner 3 years ago. Unfortunately we weren’t aware of the change until we arrived at the restaurant.
The view of the lake is excellent, the food better than average, the service attentive. What made us regretted coming here for the Chinese New Year Eve dinner was the portion of the food. The main dishes were only half of the portion we had here before and half of the portion of a similar dish served at other restaurants of similar caliber. For a small entree and a small main course at a set price of $65, we thought it’s a rip off.
Won’t recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Service was attentive and prompt. The food was amazing-The menu wasn't too complicated and the presentation and quality was perfect!
Absolutely perfect long lunch on a Saturday. Waiter was brilliant. The food superb. We all had a fabulous time.
Excellent in every way - location, view, service, wine and food!
A disappointing experience unfortunately. While the food was elegant and extremely well presented, our special occasion was marred by inattentive service at the end of our dinner. We held higher expectation from this restaurant. Unfortunately our special dimer will not be remembered fondly! A great disappointment.
The Point is an exceptionally good restaurant. The food, the view and the ambience all make for a very enjoyable and memorable dining experience. I would highly recommend The Point to anyone.
A lovely fine dining experience with special friends. Lovely view and outstanding service.
I was very much looking forward to dining at The Point but was very disappointed. Having just returned from the USA, I found myself comparing the food and prices. Food was definitely very good albeit very restrictive a la carte menu selections. The location is exceptional. The service was good but not exceptional. The prices were ridiculous (even by $AUD pries). $30 for a small champagne cocktail was extreme- especially when it was an ordinary champagne cocktail at best. $22 for a glass of house chardonnay was also excessive.
I am more than happy to pay top prices but with that comes expectations for amazing food and an exceptional experience - The Point under-delivered for me on both counts. Our special occasion suffered. I intended to make a return reservation for other friends but decided not to.
The location and ambience is world class definitely a place to go for special occasion in particular during Spring/Summer. The service is xcellent the pricing on some wines & spirits is abit excessive - like 2 glasses of Pinot of the wine cart $50. The plates and wine pourers are something else and staff are exceptionally well dressed.
Beware of the 10 course degustation choice - food & presentation is flawless but best eaten for lunch to allow for "gestation time".
Only criticism is it was my daughters birthday and had arranged for her dessert to have name put on it and candle but did not happen
The staff are amazing, very attentive but not intrusive... the food was great and we enjoyed the whole experience!
The ambience was beautiful and the staff extremely polite. Both my partner and I have been to many restaurants across Melbourne and agreed that the food was average at best as well as overpriced.
The ambience, the service and the general experience was perfect for my birthday. The time between meals was a bit long, maybe need to have less waiting between mains and entree.
Incredible food, great service and a sensational view over the lake. The Point was an excellent choice for my team's end of year get together.
It was date night for me and hubby, decided on The Point for dinner. The place has is great, food is great cos we didn’t wait long for our order, drink were great and the service is great.
Exceptional - Danielle and Roberto made it a spectacular evening with great friends - 5.5hrs for our 10 course degustation. Sumptuous spinner crab and a Vodka martini in a chilled glass from nitrogen made it a theatrical event with generous servings - highly recommend to one and all for a brilliant evening. 10/10
The setting is lovely. I had the express lunch menu and, apart from a rather strange first course, was not unhappy. The 4 others had the 2 course menu for $65 pp. the main course portions were tiny; the vegetarian main consisted of half a small eggplant! One person paid extra to have a steak; this was overdone and, to the restaurants credit; we were not charged for this guest and a fresh steak was served. The service was lack lustre and slow...we had to ask continually to get water glasses filled. All in all, quite disappointing.
The food at The Point was really amazing, especially the steaks! We also really enjoyed the oysters, and cheese course! The wine that we chose, for the price, was quite worth it too!
Came here for anniversary. Had 10 course degustation and classic wine pairing. Love the food, servings were huge! Was so full in the end. The only dish we didn't like is the sher wagyu which I found a bit tough. Classic wine pairing was really good. Can't imagine how awesome the premium wine is like if classic is already so good. Service was great, sommelier was very helpful.
Would recommend to others
Our date at The Point was amazing. We were lucky enough to book our date on a day where the restaurant was quiet and the ambiance was perfect to celebrate our anniversary. The waiter was very kind and amusing. Their signature cocktail was to-die-for and so was the steak.
Overall our experience at The Point was an unforgettable one. Would definitely come back!
We enjoyed a lovely evening at The Point. The ambience was wonderful, and the food Devine. As it was a birthday celebration, they gave us a complimentary dish to finish with. It was a great touch.
Great food. Excellent service. A great place to enjoy fine food in a relaxed atmosphere. No rush between courses, wine / water glass attened to at the appropriate time. Worth every penny for a special occasion
Great special place to go. Great views and awesome service.
good for a special occasion, great food and exceptional drinks
The 10 courses over three hours was very pleasant. Did not have the matched wines but made do with a bottle of bubbles.
Looking forward to our next visit probably New Years Eve.
Very over priced for the serving sizes.
There's not a lot of options on the menu
I'd previously been a big fan of the point but was left disappointed by their current degustation menu. Neither my partner nor I enjoyed the food but the service is always fantastic. Might try there again on their next menu change
A beautiful venue. Food beautifully prepared. Steak fantastic.
Wine list very extensive but very expensive. No great imagination in wine choices.
Service reasonable but sommelier not very helpful.
Exceeded our expectations, amazing food and thank you for the surprise plate with "Happy Anniversary " on it! Staff friendly and willing to help!
Fabulous restaurant with impeccable service and amazing food. We were well looked after and the food was beautifully presented. Stunning views of the lake topped off a perfect night. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.
