Not everything on menu available and what we did eat
was not as expected but disappointed
Wanted to try somewhere new for a Sunday roast. The restaurant is in a gorgeous location and the interior is very nice.
Sadly the roasts really let it down. Between us we had roast chicken, pork and beef. They were all terrible. The chicken was dry, the potatoes were not great, the Yorkshire pudding was so tough I had to cut my daughter’s for her. The cauliflower cheese was tasteless and runny. My son had the kid’s beef burger and loved it.
There was also a badly broken glass on the table when we arrived which I only noticed when I went to pour water into it. So lucky I turned it around and it wasn’t one of the kid’s drinks.
The manager was apologetic for the meals and compensated us really well which means we will give the restaurant another chance, but definitely not for a roast again!
Staff very helpful and friendly without being too much. I had the vegan menu which had plenty of choice and the food was delicious. My husband had steak which he said was cooked perfectly. Beautiful setting, lovely pub and couldn't fault a thing.
We have been going to The Plough for over 30 years (it has changed hands a couple of times) and it is consitently a good option within its category.
The food menu is varied and good and the wines reasonably priced but with a broad selection.
My wife and son chose a melting chocolate and peanut butter desert which was possibly too sweet and too big in comparison to the mains.
Food good, table at 4.30pm and staff seem tired as busy and result service slow
Apart from taking approx 40 minutes for the food to arrive the food was good. I felt the waiting staff we’re slightly overworked. One of the meals we ordered had a couple of hair but the person who ordered the tart said it was very tasty. The server immediately offered an alternative. We have been to the plough inn a few times but were slightly disappointed this time. I do believe they were overworked
Checked the menu online and decided what to order. When we were seated we were told what there were choices from the menu that were unavailable, i then chose from what was on offer, 5 minutes later the waitress came back to the table and informed me that my choice from the menu was also unavailable, what a waste of time and if it wasn’t for my wife I would have walked out.
Our booking was 12-30 on a Friday, I wonder what was available on the menu for the rest of the day.
WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK
A group of friends having lunch the service was welcoming and efficient from the moment we arrived food delicious and we were not rushed which was great especially as it was very busy
Nice relaxed Sunday lunch, easy parking. Lovely setting.
Haven’t been here for years,my son was treating me for my birthday.i was so pleased from beginning to end.food was absolutely delicious.in all it was a very special day.
Booked on opentable but when we arrived the plough didn’t have our booking! This was not a problem as they weren’t busy and we got a table straight away. Service was excellent and food was really good, looking forward to our next visit.
On the whole was very disappointing on this occasion
First of all our first choice the Sea Bass was not available for some reason and the our second choice Fillet steak was also not available, so by now not impressed
The starter we had , Scallops, were tasteless and served with what only can be described as a piece of burnt chorizo
I eventually chose the chicken , bacon and avocado salad for main course but they managed to serve this without the avocado!!
The service was very slow and they also managed to forget a bottle of fizzy water which we had to remind them about.
We have been a number of times and not experienced this sort of thing before
We have.contacted the Plough directly but have not had a reply!,
I’ve visited here many times for lunch or dinner and I’m never disappointed. It’s a beautiful setting both inside and out. The staff are always wonderful and the food is delicious. I wouldn’t hesitate at recommending The Plough.
Service was dreadful, waited over an hour for starters only then were we told they had a member of staff away in the kitchen. Mains - mine was cold & dry & looked as if it had been warmed up more than once! The other 2 mains were edible but disappointing too. Such a shame as have visited this chain elsewhere before & enjoyed it
Took over an hour to get a starter and two and a half hours to get our main. Got £50 discount, but that wasn’t the point.
No taste to the food, very bland, all had roasts but overall it was very poor, this place tries to be fancy but lacks the food quality. We ate in a sister restaurant and the food was fantastic. Service was ok but keep having to remind staff as they forgot things was annoying. Over priced overall unless the standard of food increases
We had a lovely meal from the Valentines set menu. My husband wanted Chateaubriand for 2 which we enjoyed together and was melt in the mouth. We will go back soon.
Very nice eve
Excellent food but not hot
Coffee not hot either
Otherwise would highly recommend
Lovely service , great atmosphere and venue
Had Sunday lunch, I wanted the lamb but they had run out so had the beef what was a little tough but otherwise nice meal
Fabulous service. Delicious food. My ninja-skilled wife tipped the entire £176 dinner tab as the tip, Kelly our waitress was nice enough to alert us. Terrific place, thank your
Pleasant meal.service friendly but it does tend to be erratic in this restaurant .
Had to wait 30 minutes for your table as the restaurant did not have our reservation and said they not sure why Open Table take reservations for them as they never signed up to them!
I have booked through Open Table before for this restaurant and had no problems!
Staff/Host didn't really seemed bothered that he didn't have our reservation and offered us a table by a fire exit or in the bar area as that is all he had!
Didn't seem like he wanted to be accommodating, until I asked to speak to the Manager, who later said it wasn't a problem and he would find a table for us.
The host advised us a table was on their dessert and we could have that table if we were happy to wait and have a drink at the bar. Asked him how long it would be, he said when he can't tell us, but will set the table up once they have finished.
Didn't offer any apology or a complimentary drink for our inconvenience.
Such a shame as dined here a few times and have had no problems.
On the food note, it was good...Chicken Katsu Starter was disappointing as chicken was very small and like the size of popcorn chicken at KFC, apart from that the dish was very tasty.
Had the fishcakes and again, portion seemed smaller than before.
Sticky Toffee Pudding was delicious.
There were issues with the reservation via Opentable as thy could not locate our table. The staff accommodated and found a table for us.
There were a few large groups dining for lunch and this seemed to affect the service as the food arrived late and cold. The staff were friendly and were helpful however it seemed they could not cope with the volume.
We were made to feel awkward as we had booked with opentable and were told there was not a booking in our name despite our email confirmation...after plenty of headshaking by the gentleman at the bar we were led to a table in the empty upstairs area....also no roasts available...on a sunday of all days...also numerous puddings were not availible....the food however was very good
Very nice Sunday lunch but very disappointed they do not have gluten free bread.
Unfortunately I think The Plough was very understaffed when I met my friend there for lunch. We dined the day after bank holiday Monday and waited 15 minutes at the bar before we got served our first drink. It was the same wait for our second drink and even though we had a reservation for lunch we felt there wasn't enough staff to cope with the amount of footfall that came through the door! It was our choice to sit outside as the weather was so nice but this meant ordering our food at the bar too which meant another lengthy wait! I must say though, the gentleman serving behind the bar was polite, serving everyone in order & genuinely going as quick as he could. I would still recommend The Plough as it's a great place to go for lunch with the kids in the summer!
Excellent evening out. Food was good ( but not fantastic). There have been evenings at The Plough where the kitchen has been quite unable to cope with demand but this was not one of them.
Excellent friendly service and a nice atmosphere.
Lovely food in a beautiful setting. Will come again! *
The whole experience was a shambles from trying to book a table . to falling over on a slippery wooden floor . We particularly went there for the scallops, rib eye steak and chunky chips none were available along with many other items too many to mention . We ordered the trio roast it turned up with chips they had also run out of roasters not told no crackling the veg and bread stuffing was stone cold and the chicken was to hard to eat. Dessert they couldn't use the torch on the creme brûlée health and safety but didn't put it under a grill just left the sugar blob on the top inedible cheese board a joke wouldn't have put the cheese on a mouse trap it had obviously been left out for some time rock hard . The waitress and trainee assistant manager were apologetic and embarrassed. Will never return .
Always enjoy dining here.. food is good and the desert selection is amazing! Best sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate bomb is a must!! The service is excellent .. love our local gem!
The lunch was very good and the service equally so. I would recommend this restaurant to all friends and acquaintances
Staff were friendly and welcoming ad food was lovely!
the setting for this pub is what makes me go back but unfortunately on my recent visits, the food and service have really underwhelmed me. As a pub for drinking it's nice but the food needs an overhaul.
The evening started badly and got worse. The Plough did not have details of my reservation which was made through Open Table. I had scallops which was a mistake. 3 very small pieces of scallop swimming in a greasy garlic sauce. The main course was steak which was too tough to eat.
My wife and our friend had a similarly bad experience with their meals.
The waitress, fortunately was excellent.
The basic problem with the PLough is the unevenness of service and very poor cooking.
The food was tasty but the service is one of the slowest I have ever encountered. Do not go there unless you have a lot of time.
Friends were coming on a Sunday and requested somewhere to eat on the river if possible. We all had such a lovely experience and I have booked again for the evening in June
Really lovely food, service was a little slow for starter but the food more than made up for that. Had a lovely evening and between 4 of us only £100 with drinks - bargain
My only grouch with The Plough in the past has been erratic service due to a busy kitchen but no such problems last week. Excellent food, friendly and attentive service and a delightful way to entertain American friends.
First time here and the food was excellent. Lovely decor and idyllic views.
