While Tamworth is widely known as the capital of Australian country music, it’s not often celebrated for its restaurant scene. However, this venue has changed all that.
Housed within one of the town's most iconic heritage buildings is The Pig and Tinderbox. Owners Chris Cornforth and Fraser Haughton have struck gold with this innovative modern restaurant which is packed out most nights. These two are bringing a taste of Sydney’s small bar scene to the country, with quirky industrial decor and a menu that focuses on sharing. There is also an impressive drinks list with plenty of craft beers and cocktail jugs on offer.
The unusual name harks back to the old-school pubs of the past, but what Cornforth and Haughton have created is something that will be sticking around well into the future.

The food was delicious and the service was great. All the recommendations were spot on.
Fantastic experience. Food, service, drinks, prices... Loved it all! We will definitely be back the next time we're visiting Tamworth!
Great service and food made this a memorable night in Tamworth. Sat on verandah outside which was nice for a warm summer evening
Called in while in Tamworth with 2 kids and had a very satisfying meal. The kids had a burger and Bolognese and were happy while we treated ours to the Feed Me menu as I decided. A very good selection of full fulfilling foods came out. The Wagu beef was exceptionally good.
We had the nicest dinner out as a family! Thank you for the $5 kids meal options- it makes for a wonderful night out at an affordable price.
Book a table for indoor then was told must sit outside it was noisey and not a private dinner date for my self and my husband we will not be coming back after the service we reserved on this visit we have been toPig and Tinder on a number of times and will not be spending any more money at the establishment.
We did the ‘chef feed me’ menu which was great. Great cocktails!
Great choices on the menu as well as some exciting cocktails 🍸 to try - yummy deserts as well 😄
fabulous service Thankyou
Beautiful food and we were well looked after
We selected the “Feed Me” choice from the menu, it states that you are receiving $55 of share foods, however when we settled our bill we were charged for two “Feed Me” selections rather than the one which we ordered. We were very disappointed to have been charged double without notice, we definitely did not receive a standard of food or service to justify the expense.☹️
Was placed on a table on the sidewalk where cars were reverse parking! There was no barriers between! Was placed on this table with my baby. They advised that I asked for an outside table! And as they were now booked out could not give me a table on the balcony, which is where I assumed “outside” tables were placed when making the booking. Food was pricey and bland.
Would not recommend this place to anyone.
The food at the Pig & Tinder is sensational. Service is great. Definitely worth a visit.
Share plates and cocktails were awesome but sadly the Pizzas aren't like they used to be. Still my favourite place in Tamworth to eat :)
Great food and cocktails! Plenty of vegetarian options which was great for my mum. The Wagyu was to die for!
Fantastic night! Again!!!
Dined there a few weeks ago and it was brilliant. This time round and I was not disappointed! Brilliant service, they adjusted our order to suit the number of people and price was excellent! The drinks were awesome - love the pineapple jug and Pims. Looking forward to our next visit. Thankyou Pig
Amazing food. Great vegetarian and some good gluten free options.
Great location, Good food selection.
Attentive caring staff & on the ball.
Always pop in when I come to tamworth.
The food was good, service was excellent and the bill was extremely reasonable. Overall it was an excellent night. The restaurant/bar does get a little harder to hear in as it gets busy due to echoing but the distance between tables does limit this a little. Overall, I highly recommend
Great food
Excellent serving sizes
Friendly welcoming staff
So good we went back the next night!
Great place to meet with friends and enjoy some share platters and drinks
A pleasant experience on an unusually windy evening. The staff were very attentive and accommodating of seating considering the terrace was unfortunately not a great option on this occasion. Drinks were great and food appetising with a lot of Asian influence. Perhaps the tapas could have been staggered a little since there were only 2 of us but that’s a minor detail. Have dined there before and plan to return to actually enjoy the ambiance on the terrace!
Food was excellent. Would have ordered more food after entree but staff kept ignoring the table wifh empty plates and we told both servers when we ordered entree rhat we would keep the menu so we could order more. I raised this when I paid the bill and the response was “you should have put yourrhand up”. No, you should service the tables properly.
Perfect food and great service and cocktails are fantastic
Friendly staff and great service. The food is delicious, but portion sizes are miniscule and ludicrously overpriced. I went with my wife for our anniversary. Our bill came to $73, including a drink each, and we left still hungry.
A group of three met for dinner on a Monday night. The reservation was made using Open Table which generated a request to confirm or cancel the day prior. I was also rung the day of the booking because somehow I had accidentally double booked. The communication was helpful and courteous.
One member of the party is Gluten Free and those options are not marked on the menu, which would be helpful, however Scott readily explained which dishes are GF. Drinks were served soon after ordering as was the food; and there were several checks during our time regarding satisfaction and if anything further was required. Two of us had the roasted vegetable salad which was very tasty; and the other person a prosciutto pizza. Meals can be individual or tapas style shared.
Service was good , tasting plates added variety
The seats where we sat were a bit high for us and not very comfortable.
But I have to say the food was delicious.
Service was outstanding from the young guys whilst simultaneously being run off their feet with lower staff numbers due to Covid19 seating restrictions. Food selection was smallish but interesting which delivered on presentation and taste.
Good ambiance, quirky menu and mostly outstanding service. Would highly recommend.
A pleasure to share lunch in a pleasant venue with attentive service.
We will be back
Excellent night, brilliant food with exceptionally funny staff.
Always friendly service and the food is amazing!
Nice ambience, great beer on tap and food well done. Service was pretty good also.
My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed the bao buns, we particularly loved the pork ones, the service was great, and we can't wait to go again.
Surprisingly excellent dinner in Tamworth! Fantastic location and good service

Arancini was top notch
