The menu was very fish biased and not what we had expected. The good generally was very bland. The 3 of us had different starters but the only one that had any depth of flavour was the risotto. The burrata was tasteless and had been stored too cold!! The salt cod main to share was flavourless. The other pork main was ok but didn’t wow! The service was hit and miss as we had to repeatedly ask where our drinks and condiments we had requested were. This place is very expensive and we all felt was style over substance. None of us would return unfortunately
Lovely setting and lovely food quality
Food, service and in general everything was amazing. But we saw a Spanish wine in the menu that is 16€ and price at the menu was 110 Pounds, maybe too much?
Lovely venue. Food on the whole was good although duck from the set menu was a bit disappointing.
It would have been great if they could have booked a taxi for me. I explained that my mum was ill. We didn’t know at the time that she was having a heart attack and had to dash outside to find a taxi to take her to hospital.
Was given a terrible table despite having booked in advance and telling them it was a birthday celebration. The service was appalling and they kept giving us the wrong food at the wrong times I.e. serving the ice cream at the beginning when it was meant to come at the end and then coming back and taking it away. We were left alone for half an hour and had to ask when we would be served the afternoon tea
Really salty, dry and rather tasteless. Such a rip off for the price (£55). A real shame given the quality at Petersham is usually amazing.
Really lovely food and ambience. It’s great to have a green calm oasis in the middle of ‘lively’ Covent Garden.
We had a great time, loved the food and setting. Only complaint was that service was very slow. It was a work lunch and some of our party had to leave by 3pm but since it took so long to take our orders at the beginning they never got to have dessert.
Stunning food and beautiful little courtyard that its situated in. Wine was also delicious.
I love the concept of the restaurant and it was very pretty, full of greenery. We went for a pre theatre meal and unfortunately it meant that the place was lacking atmosphere. Not the restaurant’s fault but hard to review the ambiance positively - sure it would have been better later on. The service was okay but almost every dish was given to the wrong person for all three courses. The set menu risotto was good and the pork and tart were actually delicious. I would try it again but the wine by the glass was also very expensive.
Great food, very nice and attentive staff. We have visited before and the food didn’t disappoint this time .We had beef for two and the meat was just perfect 🙌🏻. Decor and ambience is always amazing. We will visit again.
Maybe, nice place, the staff has to make the visit an experience
Service was lacklustre and slow, second glass of wine came well after the meal was finished.
Food was very oily, courgette flowers was fried in oil that wasn’t hot enough as it had soaked up all the oil. And the tagliatelle was also drowning in oil and really heavy as a result. Especially for a starter.
Overall a disappointing meal but the atmosphere was still nice.
Very nice. For us, its a "special occasion" restaurant. Fine Dining so small portions but food was delicious.
After previous exceptionally good visits, this outing felt like the food standards had slipped a little.
The usually great ambience was somewhat spoilt by inconsiderate customers not keeping their dogs under control, enough to cause disturbances beyond reasonable tolerance without input to the owners by the restaurant.
I’ll probably give it benefit of the doubt and try another go based on previous experience, but felt very let down on the night especially as we were meeting friends from Australia who we don’t see very often.
Very poor quality
Very poor value
We were vacationing in London. The Petersham was a great experience. Food was wonderful - fresh, delicious and creatively prepared. And, don’t miss the desserts- we both had the cherry pistachio tart! Our waiter, Nicolas, was great.
Fantastic lunch! The food was delicious and we could sit at the terrasse, surrounded by beautiful plants. Very good service as well.
Worst meal I have had in months. Overpriced and utterly disappointing- no idea why they charge such ridiculous prices. Unable to finish, left early
Excellent service and food. Highly recommended. The staff are extremely attentive without being over bearing. We would definitely return.
The Petersham is a lovely restaurant with a gorgeous outdoor dining area, the food was lovely however a little on the simple side, the flavours were good.
The short of it: the food was awful, and worse, it was so expensive.
The long of it: first, this place was my choice and I wanted to love it. I usually love all food, I’m not picky. The ambiance was lovely, obviously — that’s what the Petersham is known for. HOWEVER, the food was absolutely awful. Not just awful for the price, not just below expectations, but awful in its own right.
We went for the pre-theatre menu which is £29 for 2 courses. We also opted for bread and oil for £3.50.
- the Bread: 4 pieces total and a very small amount of oil. Overpriced. But worse, the two pieces of sourdough were stale, and the focaccia was stodgy and undercooked in the middle.
- Starters: I had the summer minestrone, which was incredibly watery and tasteless. Tasted like it had cooked for maybe 20 minutes total, they threw in some sub-par frozen veg, and called it good. It was NOT good. My partner had the risotto, which again was not good. It wasn’t velvety and nicely “combined” — felt more like rice in a thick liquid than one coherent dish, if that makes sense.
- Main: We both had the pork. It was a very small portion, which would be fine if it tasted good. The gravy they drowned it in tasted like gravy out of the packet. I’m sure the aubergine purée would have been nice if it hadn’t been drowned out. Best thing I can say about it is that the pork was cooked well.
- Service: First, the server didn’t ask us how everything was (he probably knows it’s bad). After voicing our deep disappointment about the food to him, he didn’t offer anything — no free desert, no money knocked off, no credit to come back and try again. If you back yourself to charge that much, you better be ready to make concessions when you fail to produce the quality that should come with that kind of price tag.
Bottom line: Horrible food, too expensive. The courtyard is pretty, so maybe come for drinks, but you’d be better off with food from 5 Guys next door.
Very poor service had to wait twenty mins on arrival before being asked if we would like a drink
Not enough cutlery on the table
Don’t like restaurants that include service on the bill rather decide myself what to pay service wise
The freshest food - everything was delicious. Extensive wine selection. Service was a bit patchy but all was forgiven with the quality of the food
Beautiful restaurant in a gorgeous location. I had high expectations of the food but it was distinctly average. The real issue however was service. They really don’t have enough staff and those they have are not sufficiently trained. They are polite but need someone to manage the floor. Ir really did spoil the experience as you were constantly having to find someone to ask where the wine was, where the starters were, where the cutlery was (yes). It was poor
Our waitress was sloppy, careless, and uninterested. Pouring our water on 2 occasions she splashed the table and menus. No apology or wiping up. The food was cold, with very small portions. Don't go here, there are many other places close by far better than this place. Try MacDonalds. We paid £25 service charge with no choice.
Lovely friendly service and very attentive.
food was delicious, a little pricey but lovely all the same !
The food was delicious but service was disappointing. Orders were forgotten twice.
The Petersham was fantastic, top to bottom. From wine pairings to choosing different courses, can’t recommend them enough. The staff was pleasant, the food was perfectly cooked and the menus were well thought out. Memorable meal.
Service atrocious at the time, waited over an hour for afternoon tea for two (which I assume is pre-made anyway!)
Told conflicting things by different staff- one saying 2 teas could be chosen another firmly telling me ‘no refill only’.
After contemplating over the weekend whether I should send an email and provide feedback, I did and 3 days later I’ve still heard nothing!
Customer service is beyond poor!
The waiting staff were wonderful and added to a very enjoyable lunch experience. The setting is fab and quintessentially English. We tried an orange wine which was also great.
I was a bit disappointed by the Scallop and Radish starter, sliced so thin they must make 1 scallop go along way. But the food was generally really good and we very much appreciated the desert from the kitchen for our Anniversary! Made the lunch feel a bit more special. Thank you!
Great location, good - rather than exceptional - food.
Staff are friendly. Food was okay but I wouldn’t say it was value for money. Ambience was good.
I had the pork dish it was under cooked and cold.
I didn’t want to complain as I had treated my friend to lunch and I didn’t want to cause a seen.
Lovely staff. Food was fine, but very high prices. £23 for a glass of very ordinary wine lacking in character was excessive.
Really good food in very nice surroundings with attentive service, made a nice birthday meal.
We went on Father’s Day and they made such a lovely fuss of my dad. The food and service were excellent but it was extremely loud in the main restaurant. Lots of families and lots of screaming children, everything else was faultless though
A lovely meal in great surroundings with friendly staff on our way to Covent Garden. Perfect
This is definitely a place for a special occasion - the location and ambience were perfect, the service was great and the food was delicious. However, for afternoon tea it was super pricey for the amount of food we got, and adding on a drink was a bit eye watering. We chose the house prosecco rather than adding a drink to the set afternoon price which was slightly better value.
Great service on a rare kid free weekend in London
