The National Bar & Dining Rooms
Mostly midtown business crowd at lunch
I won’t be back. Very overpriced food. Very medocre food at best.
Mediocre food - nuff said. Geoffrey Zakarian, you have been CHOPPED.
Best meal I enjoyed during a week in NYC. Only drawback was noise level.
The food is really delicious. The service was a little pokey, but adequate. The noise level is simply defeaning. It's impossible to carry on a conversation with the people at your table.
Our waiter was so attentive and nice. I had the lamb burger and it was so flavorful. The chocolate mouse for dessert was amazing, Definitely the best I’ve ever had
NOT thrilled! I was disappointed. and I never write a bad review but feel this time it warrants.
Pricey lunch (portions small)... very noisy..not the best time
Really enjoyable place to dine. Friendly, attentive service. But more importantly, everything we ate was delicious.
I had the Mediterranean Branzino for my entrée and it was delicious. I would have preferred a different side with it other than the wild arugula though - something with more substance.
Great location. Good food, good service - ideal for a business lunch...Bar looks like it could be fun at happy hour..
Great place for breakfast business meeting. Fast, good food, mid town location and reasonable priced
The food was delicious, the homemade butternut squash soup and the salmon dish. The staff was very accommodating and helped us to find a quiet table in a noisy room. Bravo!
Lovely experience as always. Terrific fish and octopus and great service.
I like the food at the restaurant, and go a fair amount because it's close to my office. The service is generally good, but it's REALLY noisy; very loud. There is nothing to muffle the sound with, and it can get very annoying. That said, the food is good value.
Service so so incredibly slow and the dining area and restrooms were dirty. Food was subpar for the price. Will not be going back.
Awesome lace for breakfast-good food and fast service
Overpriced, mediocre food, a bit grubby inside. Noisy, too. Staff is pleasant enough but it is a poor value.
I try to have dinner at The National whenever I travel to New York, as the food is very good and prices quite reasonable. This time, the noise level simply overwhelmed everything else--even though we were there on a weeknight. Very disappointing.
Quite good food. Have been often in the past visiting on biz. Service fizzled out as the waiter clearly got overwhelmed once the dining room got full — sitting between courses without plate removals (no buss staff??) and after the entree’ “check!” Which still took forever. Could use a touch up on service.
I am a regular customer and generally enjoy the experience. There was a new matre’d on duty who could not handle the crowd. I had a reservation- as usual - but still waited 20 minutes. That is not acceptable for a business breakfast where my guest and I both had commitments to meet on the back end of the meal. I will look into other options in the area next time....very disappointing!
This place has gone downhill quite a bit. It used to be my go-to spot for breakfast meetings but the service has really gone downhill. There is not enough staff and the ones who are there are pretty rude. Had to repeat orders multiple times. The food is fine but not good enough to put up with the other issues.
A dependable place for good food. Unfortunately they always put to many people at one table even when they are empty. Wait staff is always looking to turn the table.
A convenient location for most midtown people. Staff was courteous and attentive. However the food was somewhat uninspiring. I had a chicken that was a bit dry, and vegetables that were undercooked. Onion soup was good. Overall it was ok, but a bit overpriced for what they serve.
Excellent service, food, always a winner!
Brunch was excellent. Betsy was a superb server and we will be back again.
SUPER IN EVERY WAY!!
Service and food were great. My only complaint is that the noise level is high.
The worst restaurant that I ever been ever. Please remove it from any list. They may my client and me wait for 20 minutes, despite having a reservation, then we ordered, the food took 50 minutes to arrive from the time we ordered it, the noise is unbearable, the steak was overcooked and the meat dry despite I requested rare. Please remove from list of recommended restaurants. I WIL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN.
Great for everyday dining but an it too noisy for a business meal during lunch.
Excelent place and food , but The Service is too bad , only The manager , he is perfect
We had to ask to be moved as we were a group of 8 pushed to the very back. Then, when we sat we were told we had 15 minutes to order lunch even though we had a reservation at 2:15 pm. The server informed us that the chef wants all orders taken by 2:30 pm. We were confused as to why they take reservations but promptly tell you to hurry and order because the chef does not want late orders ("they are getting ready for dinner"). One of my guests asked if they could order the salmon as a Caesar salad option and was given a swift "no," even though it was an option on the menu - the server wanted us to order both entrees. Drinks took forever. Service was not as professional as had hoped as this was a NYU graduation lunch. We did get a celebratory dessert for the graduate which was a nice. Food was a 3, service a 2. We were hoping for more. Probably would not recommend to a friend.
First time at The National Bar & Dining Rooms. The friendly relationships among the staff and attentive service was a welcome change compared to some other establishments. The food was excellent. Will be back again the near future.
It was pretty loud and a little hard to talk but the food and service were incredible, and the vibe was great, and honestly the restaurant looked as good as the food tasted, which was very good, and which feels weird but delightful in midtown.
Food was incredibly ordinary. Service was poor.
Terrible, terrible, terrible service. Food was good though. Probably better off ordering delivery. Unfortunately, I will not be back.
I’ve been here three times now and each time was underwhelmed. The food is mediocre (this time the fish was over cooked, side dishes were incorrect and then not particularly tasty when the right ones came) and the wait times long. Not sure I’ll be giving it a fourth chance.
One of my favorite spots to relax with family and have a great cup of coffee with simple, delicious food. I love the portion sizes ... small enough to eat healthy and enjoy additional sides. Also, a cool place to have a cocktail at the bar. I always make a reservation at The National when visiting New York!
The location is nice and the space is elegant. The food was a bit lack-luster. We both had salads for lunch and split a side of fries. The fries were the highlight.
Great location, service was excellent, nice menu choices but the noise level is through the roof.
