The Moldy Fig
Tasty food, excellent service and great music. You really could not ask for any more on a Saturday night. We will definitely be returning with friends.
The food was fantastic. I was concerned the live music may be too loud due to the size of the room, but it wasn't. The live jazz was at the perfect level to still enjoy the meal and conversation with my partner. Definitely will be back.
This is a small but wonderful place to get together. Though the music was way too loud for the small space we were in we still enjoyed ourselves. The service was second to none and the food was pretty good too. Having spent a lot o f time in New Orleans the cuisine was somewhat close to traditional with but with a modern twist. Try the elderflower fizz cocktail!!!!!
Meals where fresh and came out quite quickly. Very tasteful and good portions. Live music was good but sometimes just abit too loud that you found yourself yelling at your partner.
Otherwise really good experience and food.
Good live music, never too loud or invasive, and great food with friendly caring service and a cocktail list that we adore!
Great restaurant with live music not too loud. Service was great also. Will certainly return.
Great jazz and delicious dinner on a Friday night. Excellent service too!
Drove from Ballarat to sample what The Moldy Fig had to offer and we were not disappointed, fast and friendly service and delicious food and great recommendations from staff on popular menu favourites.
We ended up getting a banquet which gave us a sample of the flavours on offer, we tried about 6 dishes for $30 each which is just fantastic and we didn’t leave hungry that’s for sure.
We will be back soon!
Great relaxed evening
Hand cooked cajun style... yum!
The food and drinks were tasty but the service was slow and servings were small.
Super cool vibe with exceptional live music and friendly staff. Really interesting menu, the vege Jambalaya was to die for and I can't wait to get back to try more dishes! Lots of gluten free and vegan options too. $10 cocktails for happy hour is just the icing on the cake. Definitely try the Cajun Lemonade - its like a spicy pimms cup!
Easily the best Creole cuisine we've had in Melbourne! Also the Kahlua triple cream brie dessert is to die for, the Abita Amber on tap is great and the atmosphere is excellent.
The live music was great, but the food was very disappointing.
Pretty disappointed with our whole evening. We ordered one of the Banquet menus for the table, and the all dishes were under-seasoned, lacking flavour and the portions were strange. 6 wings to share between 4 people, Vege dishes larger than mains. They had alot of gluten free options though.
The Jazz musician was playing extremely loudly for a crowd of 3 tables, the music was so loud we had to ask them to turn it down as we couldn't hold a conversation over the music- a bit extreme for a dinner venue early on a Saturday night. The service was okay, we had to ask for drinks and water a few times even though the restaurant wasn't crowded.
I wouldn't recommend dining here, it left us with a poor view of New Orleans cuisine.
Our evening at the Moldy Fig was, as always, a great pleasure!
We had a great night at The Moldy Fig. The food was outstanding with the New Orleans theme. We thought the $30 banquet was good value and really enjoyed the Gumbo and Jambalaya. The live jazz music was good but a bit loud for conversation.
Overall a very enjoyable experience and great customer service from all staff.
The staff at Moldy are very warm and inviting. The food is fabulous and distinctive. Always a great variety of music. Best local spot in Lygon st!
Intimate and friendly. Good service . Food and music excellent
Great authentic style southern cooking with an awesome atmosphere and attentive service
1) Cornbread =excellent;
2) Gumbo = average;
3) Jambalaya = stodgy. lacking flavour and balance;
4) Ribs = tough. poorly re-heated;
5) Margarita = ordinary. lacking flavour & balance
6) Service = genuine. Dishes came out too fast though.
7) Ambience = Limited. live music very background.
This is to Cajun food what Taco Bills is to Mexican.
home style food and good music. This place is one of a kind in Brunswick with so much potential, shame that its not a it place. I would go again!!
Such a great find! Food was delicious, had a banquet and enjoyed every dish. Live music was great - love Destination Moon :) Will definitely be back.
WOnderful Cajun food with great service overall and live jazz. A great way to celebrate a birthday.
Excellent food and service, enjoyed the evening with the live music. Happy to go back again.
Great service by the bartender and a cosy place to curl up with new and old friends.
Food was very tasty and different with a casual and welcoming atmosphere, making a great dining experience on a visit to Melbourne. Nice to have music to listen to. Remember it's at the Brunswick end of Lygon Street!
