The Moat

The service was friendly and fast, but not interruptive or too frequent.
The food was well priced, but still delicious, with options all guests were happy with.
Seating was situated in a number of different areas throughout the restaurant due to the shape of the venue, which made it cosy, but not crowded, while still creating a fun vibe.
Needless to say, we were all very happy with our choice for the night, as everything was 'just right".

I love everything about The Moat. The staff are professional and welcoming. Always there when you need them and not there when you don't! The ambience in this little hideaway underneath The State Library is spot on, making us feel as though we could have been in Rome or New York. But it's the consistently well executed menu that will always keep me coming back - faultless. Highly recommended!

This is a favourite place of mine to dine when in the CBD. Food isa great and the service is even better. They have even placed a very nice preservative free shiraz on their wine list after I and some others enquired. Ted was very welcoming and remembered me by name after being away for quite some time to to the lockdown.

Highly recommend this hidden little gem!! The food and service were outstanding. perhaps could have had a couple more items on the menu for dinner but give the current pandemic understand the limit. Would definitely go back again!!

Good place to have a conversation over lunch. Food is fresh and imaginative and room is well sound proofed so that you can hear each other.

The pie of the day was great, but it was difficult to pick that to eat as everything on the menu looked good. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices are excellent. I have been a number of times, and have always enjoyed it. Definitely will return.

We had a person in wheelchair and the place was quite accessible. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food and drink were surprisingly good. A lot of vegetarian option and you can't go wrong with ordering any dish. We enjoyed out time too much until the waitress telling me the next table arrived.

A nice quiet spot where good food and drink flow and allow for a wonderful evening. Wait Staff were excellent. attentive but not imposing.

This is a lovely venue to meet up with friends - great ambience and very friendly attentive staff. It's even quite a nice place to hang out on your own with a book and a glass of wine.

Moat is a lovely little lunch place. It's quiet and has a great quirky feel. The service is always perfect, the wine selection is great, the food is great, not a huge selection and it rarely changes.

This is a great venue for a quick meal after an event with fabulous staff and delicious food that is reasonably priced. Always enjoy going there.

The moat is a solid , not too expensive, cosy place with good food , delicious beer on tap and a decent wine selection. I never had a bad experience there and this time around I took some people from overseas who certainly left very happy

Service and atmosphere were lovely, unfortunately our food didn't quite match up with the prices of $45 odd for a main. I ordered the duck fillet which arrived lukewarm, and the plum sauce was too sweet and singular in flavour.

Such elegant food amidst a beautiful setting! Love love love their Eton mess, yum! Books and wine, what’s not to love? Will definitely go back again.

It was a business meeting lunch - I ordered badly - a vegetarian version of their ploughman's type lunch.

Waited nearly half an hour for a menu and order to be taken. Delightful girl served us but she was totally run off her feet. Food was delicious. Noise level was very very high.

The background music was loud, intrusive and unnecessary. Service was exemplary and the food top notch (smoked salmon, meat balls). Will go back when it's quiet.

The Moat is our favourite Cafe in Melbourne, great staff. great location. We organize our monthly literary meetings there. Also every time we visit the State Library or the Wheelers Centre, we drop by at the Moat to have a coffee.
