Excellent food, exquisitely served in an extremely pleasant setting
My husband and I enjoyed the afternoon tea however I’d steer anyone away from the cinnamon tea as it tasted like cinnamon hot candies. Our children had the children’s brunch (hamburger and French toast), which was good. The service was a bit slow for our taste as we wanted to get back to the museum so we opted not to get the dessert that is included in the brunch. Had the server been over sooner, we would have ordered it. Overall, we’re glad we went but won’t go back during our next visit to The Met.
My mom works at The Met and we haven’t been here in years. We went for a birthday dinner and were delighted by the food, the staff and the atmosphere. Definitely recommend
Recommend fed by a local and did not disappoint. The Duck was excellent, as was the Salmon. Good value, nice treat after a visit to the Met.
If you don't feel like leaving the museum and want to grab some dinner before leaving, don't write it off as another museum food court. It's really nice, and the food is great! Do expect museum prices.
We were pleasantly pleased while dining at The Dining Room at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Very pleasant and helpful staff, good drinks and food selection. Reasonably priced (for NYC).
Lovely setting, excellent service and delicious food
Wonderful place to bring an out of town guest. Museum viewing followed by a delicious lunch with park and city views. One of our favorite spots as real conversation is possible
Green salad with no dressing (guess they forgot).
Risotto laced with too much salt.
Two deserts - one spoon. Coming with it ... and then forgot.
Completely over priced for the quality.
The Met Dining Room is beautiful. We were seated by a window overlooking Central Park. Both the menu and the service were terrific.
This is one of the finest restaurants in NYC. Excellent chef, staff and menu selections. A very relaxed ,unrushed experience.
The food is excellent.
For a nice date, nothing beats a combination of atmosphere and fine food. The dining room at the Met offers both. With plates that are artfully prepared with delicious selections, the backdrop of Central Park through the wall of windows becomes even more magical. I look forward to many more visits. This time around the beet salad, grilled octopus, and the burger were the meals of choice. And none of it disappointed. The grilled octopus was the best that I have had and the unique blend of spices on the beet salad gave it a flavor that pulls you in several directions before deliciously blending all together. It’s definitely on the list of “must have” if you make the trip.
Window table w/ a view of the obelisk. Very special. Single complaint is that the menu is geared toward "ladies who lunch". The burger is the only real meal. My wife loved the fish special: snapper. A wonderful way to enhance a day at the museum.
IT's always a treat to go to the Members Dining room. Service is always good and the food doesn't ever disappoint. A real treat and great accompaniment to the great art.
We have been Met members for decades and it’s always a treat to go to the Patron’s Dining Room. We enjoy the views of Central Park, the ambiance, the meals presentation & exquisite flavors, the professional waitstaff service. We enjoy taking friends to a different & enjoyable dining experience and this is the place to be for brunch, afternoon tea or dinner.
We look forward to our next visit.
Lovely service and food
Enjoyed a lovely birthday lunch! They were able to accommodate my request for a table by the window, which I greatly appreciated. Attentive, friendly service and lovely food.
Three of us ordered the fish dish, two ordered the red snapper and one the scallops. Initially we were told that they had Salmon which we ordered and then later we were told that they did not have any Salmon. Each dish was supposed to come with mixed grains which neither of us wanted and we were told that we would get extra swiss chard instead. Also each fish dish is supposed to come with a 'trio of sauces'. We all still got the mixed grains and for all three of us they brought out one small plate of the trio of sauces that we had to share. Each were about one tablespoon. We noticed other tables where one person ordered the fish dish, that person got the same amount of sauce. Made no sense to us and our waiter never came by to ask us how things were and he looked so busy so we put up with it. One of the red snapper fillets had two small bones in it and neither dish had any flavor. The scallops were reported as being good. Prices were too high and we are not rushing back there anytime soon.
Went for afternoon tea and the menu was pretty limited. Of the 3 sandwiches 2 had seafood. The bread was slightly dried out on the sandwiches. The squash soup was very good. Tea choices were limited but what they had was good. Also ordered hamburgers for the people who didn’t eat egg salad, crabmeat or salmon. They were ok. But not worth the $$. At the end of the meal, we waited for some time for the check then had to ask for it.
We visited at lunch on New Years Eve, so it is quite possible that the usual staff were not present.
We found the service to be adequate, but nothing more. The servers quickly took our order, and we saw little more of them except for delivering plates and removing finished dishes (for example they did not ask if we wanted refills on drinks or coffee with dessert). Service was not bad, merely inattentive, and not to the standard that one expects at these prices.
The food was pleasant, but not outstanding. The ambiance was good. I would recommend to somebody visiting the Met if they do not want to eat in the cafeteria style locations or venture outside to other restaurants, but would not suggest this restaurant as a "destination".
We had tea service. Food was good bit meager, especially the condiments like butter, etc. request for more took long for fulfillment.
A really lovely place to go with friends. Great atmosphere and service.
Second time there in a week. Even for a stand alone restaurant, let alone one within a museum, the quality is extremely good. Food is thoughtfully prepared and delicious. Desk and floor staff are friendly and attentive. Left feeling great each time. Thanks.
Had a lovely time with my British friends. They were kind enough to substitute the crab sandwich I couldn't have by bringing me 2 others and they brought extra cream, butter, jam but those portions were skimpy for 4 people and it wasn't clotted cream but whipped cream but it was still tasty. It was also very beautiful to look at . Those soup tureens were adorable. Felt like a doll's tea party. Loved it and will definitely be a go to place when I have visitors.
Everything was perfect until our birthday cookies went to another table!
The Dining Room at the Met was everything I have come to expect and more. Unfortunately, there are times in New York where a plate arrives at your table and your realize just how overpriced it is. Not today. It is the kind of meal that you sit down and you savor every single bite. The kind of meal when you get up and leave, you immediately want more. The service is incredible, which complements the amazing food. Add to that a beautiful view of central park through a gigantic wall of glass. It truly is a dining experience like no other, and after dessert it’s just a short walk back to some of the most wondrous treasures from around the world.
I would also like to personally thank our server, Otto. Despite how busy everything was, he was attentive and spot on with everything. It was very much appreciated.
We had a reservation for 1:30 lunch with our family and two 90+ year old grandmothers. We weren't seated until 2pm. The food was not good. I had the tuna crudo for an appetizer. It was combined with a sweet spiced sauce, raisins and nuts. Not flavors I would ever think of combining with tuna. It overwhelmed and was not appetizing. My scallops were way overcooked and served with 3 sauces that I would never combine with seafood. The restaurant was noisy, especially for those wearing hearing aids. It is way overpriced for the sub par dining experience. Never again.
Lovely meal lovely view. Outstanding wait staff. View over Central Park. Excellent tomato bisque snapper and scallops. Recommend reservations during busy times.
Excellent cuisine and service.
It’s a little expensive for the food, small portions, but it’s for a worthy cause.
The Dining Room at the MET is always a superb experience.
It is the perfect combination of delicious food, great service and fabulous views!
We also love the staff who seats the guests. They seem to find the perfect table EVERY TIME!!!
A truly wonderful venue for that special occasion!
Nice space for high end lunch. The food selection and preparation was excellent. We had seasonal delicata squash salad and a beet salad, then main courses of crab cakes and scallops. We opted for server recommended wine pairings. Dessert was a delicious seasonal pumpkin panna cotta with gingerbread and an apple galette with coffees.
The atmosphere is sophisticated and generally quiet enough for business and personal conversations (except for occasional loud laughter from one table or spontaneous yelling by another patron apparently calling after her children). While youngsters are not excluded, the environment really seems most appropriate for adults, particularly for business-type lunches.
The only complaint that I had was that despite the menu offering of a fixed price ($54) for a three course meal, when the check came it was $50 higher than expected due to the items being tallied individually. Whether that was something we had misunderstood about the menu, which had not been explained to us, or an error in the billing is unclear, as my companion picking up the tab did not want to inquire and simply paid the nearly $200 total. Personally, it seems to me that this should not have happened and soured an otherwise very good experience.
Our meal was very good, service was good, noise level was a little too high, but view and ambience were outstanding
Expensive for a drink and full lunch but delicious
Always a wonderful place to have a relaxing meal with a view of Central Park when visiting the museum. Saturday and Sunday brunch truly "hit the spot!"
If you like bad wedding banquet hall food, this is the place for you. The food is lousy & extremely slow and the management is inept. The restaurant is also fairly expensive making for a very value proposition.
Nice experience with friends for afternoon tea. Our server was great.
christmas holiday date
I had the salmon and my date had the scallops. Both meals were excellent. For the Christmas season, the dinning room were extremely bland with absolutely zero floral arrangements visible.
