The Dining Room is an elevated cuisine experience that overlooks Central Park, with a focus on local and seasonal ingredients by our Director of Culinary, Bill Telepan. We locally source our ingredients from farms within a 150 mile radius of The Met.

I had brunch at the Dining Room on Sunday. I made an early reservation (noon) and requested a table by the window when I made my reservation, and received a perfect table. I had a view of the obelisk in Central Park. The service was exceptional--low key, attentive, and professional. I appreciated the relaxed pace of the meal, though others might find it slow (some of the other reviews). I felt quiet unrushed, which was lovely.

The brunch is prix fixe, at $45 for two courses. I found the food good and the brunch a good value. I had the smoked trout and the lobster croque madame. The portions were plentiful but not overwhelming and the food was well prepared. It was very good, but not extraordinary. The bread basket was also a treat, with a scone and zucchini bread, as well as the standard fare. The dining room itself could use some updating. It looks like it had the same decor and furniture that it likely had in the 1980s. But it's really all about the view. It was a peaceful and lovely way to break up a day of museum-ing.

I discovered after I made the reservation that you get complimentary admission to the Met with your reservation (and you get to bypass the ticket lines--just stop by the information desk in the grand hall). That really makes it an exceptional bargain. It's a great way to enhance a day at the Met. I'd recommend it to anyone spending a day or more at the museum.

New prix fixe menu is a huge disappointment!!!! The portions are too large to be able to manage a light meal before or after a museum tour. Aworse you are forced into a minimum of 3 courses only highlights the failings of the kitchen on breadth and the painfully slow and inattentive setvice. It was nicer to just choose the few items they excelled at rather than being forced to order extra dishes that produce a significantly lower experience. Terrible idea. The waitstaff needs to be reminded people want to eat a course in under 1 hour. 3 courses should not take 3 hours.

I’m A member of the Met and made my lunch reservation well in advance. I was sat at a two person table right next to the door to the kitchen. It was loud and obnoxious. I’ve been to this restaurant several times, and I could not believe I had such a poor experience. I really hope that in the future they rethink their seating options.

Several years ago we used to have diner only during the weekend in the Members' Dining Room at the Met. Now the Dining Room at the Met is open all week for lunch and diner and the quality of the food and service is as high as before. The view of Central Park from the Dining room is another plus for this restaurant. A highly recommended place for a nice meal while visiting the Museum.

Lunch with a view of Central Park was very nice. Of course, the food was delicious. We'd like to let you know that we've arranged for us to share it, as it was a bit oversized, so we asked them to share. Above all, being able to start a meal at the reserved time without having to stand in line has made appreciation at the museum even more meaningful.

The good news: Sunday brunch was fantastic! Had the lobster croque madame, the cherry blintzes, and the trout soufflé. All were out of this world. The bread basket was brimming with various breads and cranberry mini scones. The passion fruit creme brûlée was the only disappointing dish—average at best but did have a strong passion fruit flavor. Service was very good. The bad news: if you’re not close to the windows (which are on only one side of the restaurant), the decor is nothing to speak of. Also, if you haven’t been to the restaurant before, you’ll spend an extra 15-20 minutes trying to find it. Brunch was prix fixe but pricey. Also great is that you get tickets to the museum with your reservation, so you can walk off all those rich dishes!!

Very disappointing! We have been members and dining here for almost 10 years. Chef Sabo’s tasting menus were unique and scrumptious. Since he left, things have not been the same. The menu is uninspired and the dishes taste very average. Nothing to rave about. Service was very slow and not attentive. My husband’s duck was not well done, but very rare and when he sent it back to be cooked some more, it took so long I had already finished my entree. What a big difference to what we were used to for so many years.

Telepan is back and better than ever! Dining room needs a decor update but the food is phenomenal, service was friendly and consistent- go now before you can’t a reservation.

Great location if you want to have a nice meal and glass of wine before or after a visit to the Met. The view over Central Park is great. The main drawbacks are that the ambience feels very much like one is dining in a museum, rather than at a great restaurant that happens to be located in a museum.

The food was uniformly very good (with the exception of stale rolls, which required 3 requests and 20 minutes to replace). The servers are polite and friendly, but simply clueless. I've never seen so many walking around to so little effect. I ordered a half-bottle of wine--misunderstanding the middle of three prices, which was actually for a small carafe--and the waiter didn't blink an eye, then showed up finally with a full bottle. This was in the evening, and the room wasn't more than a quarter full. I can't imagine how they handle the business at lunch and brunch. Overall it's still enjoyable due to the spaciousness and low decibel level, but don't go expecting professional service.

Wonderful location. The staff who greeted my party was very accommodating. The food was tasty. The wait staff seemed very harried. We all ordered salads or crab cakes and we needed to ask for bread. When it arrived it came a tiny ramekin of butter, which was less than adequate for four people.
The pricing is on the high side, but the ambiance is always wonderful. I will come again and would recommend it to friends. Thanks.

Wasn’t impressed- ordered a hamburger and the bacon looked like it was made 3 days ago, hard as rock and fossilized. When we entered we asked to sit by the window and the guy seating us said “those are not available “ - they were all empty. Mind you they filled in but he didn’t tsk us how to request them next time and made us feel less than by the way he answered. Decor was very poor - definitely not matching where we were. I felt like I was in a beautiful museum then walked into a 1970s funeral home for lunch.

Hello:

My friend and I ordered a ceasar salad. The lettuce was slightly wilted and the portion was so small. I ordered an ice tea , which I never got.

I had water, and so did my friend. The cappucino was very good.

Ii window view was just lovely.

The waiters did not offer a refill on the breadsticks.They grabbed te wine glasses off the table once we said we would have water.... The total cost for two small caesar salads and a coffee was 34.00 plus a tip. perhaps you could offer a larger portion of salads.

This is a beautiful setting and the wait staff are attentive. But our orders were confused and not served together. And the the dining room, which was full at lunch, was surprisingly noisy given its decor. We were a table of 4 trying to catch up and at times it was hard to make ourselves heard and none of us has hearing problems.

There IS NOT going to be a return visit. We 3 decided on doing the 3-course meal...very thankful we did not do the 4-course. Starters for us were the beet salad, house smoked brook trout, and orange marinated quail. Good. For the main, I chose the pasta bolognese with lobster. Lobster was so rubbery, I couldn’t cut it...had to use another plate to attempt to cut it. Pasta red sauce tasted like it was from a Chef Boyardee can. And cold. Dessert was actually what you expected...delicious. We all shared the Valhrona chocolate tart and the passion fruit creme brûlét.

Now service was the final straw. When seated, we asked the server assistant a question, he wasn’t sure, we said ok. Then he went behind our table and spoke to another server assistant about what I asked and both laughed. Not cool for the guests. We had to ask for water multiple times, and we waited a very long time between courses. The dinner stretched into a 2.5 hour dinner and we were clearly done. Service was slow and very poor. Too expensive for such poor service and rubbery cold food.

We celebrated my mother’s birthday at the Met Dining Room, and the staff could not have been nicer! I let them know in advance, so they seated us at a lovely window table and Mom’s dessert plate came out with “hapoy birthday” written in chocolate.

The prix fixe brunch menu has changed - used to be app, entree & dessert plus mimosa or Prosecco. Now it’s $5 less, but only app & entree - prosecco is an add-on, as is dessert.

Still a great experience, though!

The restaurant has changed to a restrictive 3 or 4 course prix fixe menu. You cannot opt out of any course, including pasta on the 3 course. So no lighter options are now available. This is very unfortunate.
