The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges
Great Atmosphere, food and service
It’s one of my favorite dining spots on the UES
The word that comes to mind is "lovely." It was a wonderful experience!!! Thank you.
Nice spot for lunch with a friend, just make sure you ask for a table that’s not on top of someone else so you can TALK
Okay. This was the strangest restaurant experiences I’ve ever had; I’m not even sure what was going on honestly. The food was good (except sadly the dessert was terrible and they need to update/rethink some more imaginative items). The menu itself was also weird (there were two cheeseburgers, why does a menu need two cheeseburgers - so random) but it was really the service that left me confused. There were a fair amount of busers but only ONE server for our entire half of the dining room meaning she was rushing around and spent zero time at our table. I enjoy dining at restaurants where the server becomes your guide giving you an informed and detailed tour of the menu describing where the ingredients are sourced from, how/why all the flavors are out together, what inspires the chef, what are the chef’s favorites right now, what does the server recommend for drinks with the items we’ve chosen ... but NONE of that. The service was honestly like ordering at a drive through window cold, meaningless and boring. Beautiful hotel but miss their restaurant... unless you love cheeseburgers in the case they have two.
Always a good meal here, service was excellent, all food was tasty. I wish they would update the dessert menu but all good. Will return again and again.
Water was not refilled on table without a request. Caesar salad was average and oysters were not chilled enough. Bartender made great cosmos.
Always consistent always delic fabulous service
We were so looking forward to our reservation. What a disappointment! Food was unremarkable and service was poor bordering on rude. It was a Friday night, the restaurant was not crowded- what was the problem?
Great food, pretty space. Waiters could have been more attentive with water refills and asking how we’re doing. Didn’t offer Parmesan and pepper with pasta dishes until we asked. Hotel guests were very underdressed for the restaurant so that took away from ambience. Overall nice experience.
Service is outstanding. Ambiance is outstanding. Deserts are absolutely superb! My bass entree this week was too citrusy and salty for me, and one person in our group found the tuna burger dry. On a previous visit I had the avocado pizza which was great. And once I had the mushroom frittata which needed seasoning. So the entrees have sometimes left just a little something to be desired! But I still go because of the deserts and ambience and service.
I was there for lunch. Coffee was lukewarm. In my opinion, the hotel can do a better job rearranging the restaurant tables ao that the customers can feel a bit more comfortable and private while eating. Also the utensils should not be laid on the bear tables without the napkins or the papers.
I had to send the salad back because it was barely dressed and just a handful of mesclun for $16.
We would expect better food for the money spent.
We’ve been many times before, but everything seemed a bit off. Our server was inconsistently attentive (which is highly unusual), the food was good, but not great and overall, the entire operation just seemed “off”.
Our food was delicious and our waiter Rob was great and so were all the other staff members. Thank you!
Fabulous tasty food, elegantly prepared and served...
My only repeated issue is when I always order Jack Daniels on the rocks, I get something that is Not jack daniels... the waiter was nice and “poured” it himself, but since “someone” in bar service refilled the jack bottle with something tasteless, SO I AM COMPLAINING AGAIN. Not fair to give this wonderful jean-George a reputation with this inferior service. Your bar “women” are equally inferior and hostile, for no reason...
A service business which it is, your welcoming staff are downright hostile.
While nothing was wrong; there was nothing outstanding...and at $72 for the sole, I want a bit of magic.
Terrible experience. Food was not at all fresh, service was terrible, and prices were absurdly high for the poor quality of both the food and the service.
We attended our reservation ! And we stayed at the bar and mu reservation was never confimed
Very odd experience for lunch. Wait staff was great and ambiance is very nice.
Food was not. My wife had tuna nicoise which came with, literally, a cylinder of canned tuna, like it was just plopped out of a can. My daughter has a sushi special that was very small, 4 or 5 pieces and wasn't very flavorful; maybe even a bit spoiled. Son had some type of caesar salad with, I think shrimp, but he didn't finish it. Oh well, live and learn.
Went for brunch. The food is good. but the service is extremely slow. won't be returning.
The Jean George Restaurants have become a “very good standard restaurant”. It is no longer an outstanding place to dine. At the Mark food is always on the edge of been very good or just ok. I think they should make and effort to gain its past glory or risk to loose any reputation that is left.
Food was awful, both my friend and I received meals that were bland and dry (burger and chicken). Unfortunate, as we were looking for this to be a special meal.
We really enjoy the tuna tartare, which is very consistent with the version at the Jean Georges restaurant in trump tower. A lot of the other dishes are a bit ordinary and a bit on the expensive side. However in all a pleasant dining experience.
Over priced. $27 Octapus App had 5 very small pieces of Octapus with potatoes that looked to be the same. I did say something and they brought more. But, it after that, it seemed like they just wanted us out of a very dark corner table next to kitchen. Bad experience.
One of the best restaurants on upper east side! Expensive but worth every bite. Save for special occasion.
but food is delicious & service is perfect
Beautiful room, seated in room with glass ceiling. Overpriced. Bread was cold and a little stale. Shouldn’t be at a restaurant this expensive. Impression is they cater to wealthy locals who live in the neighborhood and tourists staying at the hotel. Nougatine is soooo much better.
From the food to the service, it was a perfect afternoon!
Have been to the Mark many times, but last night the food was very off - maybe a new chef - Jean George
should check it out - also the chairs are most uncomfortable - don't think we will go back after many years of eating there.
Always great food and service
It was so loud, a waiter asked us if we wanted to move. We did and really appreciated it.
I made a booking by mistake thinking it was the other Jean George. I'm a frequent diner at the one in Shanghai and since my gf has never tried and neither have I tried the mark, I thought we would both give it a try. Horrible food, salad was too dry, angel hair looked like chow mein, even the table next to me whom i heard every single word of the conversation commented on how bad the angel hair looked.
My striploin had to be done twice as the kitchen got the medium rare wrong. It turned out to be medium even when cut down the middle. I own 7 restaurants as a hobby and have a Michelin star in the stable, I think I can tell what's medium rare and what's not. One of the waiters insisted that if I cut down the middle it would be medium rare. He wasn't there when I cut it to show the other waiter and still insisted that he's right. Horrible horrible horrible.
A hidden gem on the upper east side.
From ambiance to food to the service, it's all on Mark!
Food was great. Unfortunately, for some of "older" folk, the teenagers (?) were extremely exuberant, screaming & laughing at top volume.....this makes conversation difficult.
Services was terrible.
One of my favorite stand-by places. Consistently good food and usually the other patrons interesting.
