The Lore of the Land
The building dates back to the late 1700s, and since 1829 has been a pub.
All of our food is freshly prepared each day by our chefs in the open kitchen upstairs. Our menus have been created specifically to be shared and change weekly according to what’s in season and offered locally. Our popular Sunday lunches are traditional roasts slow-cooked with all the trimmings.
Sustainable and fresh produce is supplied by Ashgrove Farm.
Seasonal and locally sourced sharing plates are available all day in the pub, alongside a range of craft beers, including our very own Gritchie brews, boutique spirits and French wines.
We offer private drinks and dining for up to 22 sit-down guests on a secluded floor of the pub. Please contact us for a viewing or to discuss your needs be it business or pleasure. A deposit may be required of parties of 8 or more.
The roast was incredible - one of the best i've had. But sadly the service was awful from start to finish.
Impressed on a first visit and even better on a second. Great flavours, attention to detail and some special touches. Really delivers on all counts and can’t wait for a 3rd visit.
Food amazing - get a counter seat to watch the live and attention the food gets!
Fabulous place, great food and very tastefully refurbished building
The food is amazing. From a very small set lunch menu all options appealed. Great wine list too. Keg beer was good but cask was relatively 'normal'. Service is excellent. Would live to go back for dinner when the menu is bigger.
Went for a Sunday roast and was not disappointed. I would most definitely put it up there as one of the best in London. The staff were great and super friendly. The reason we went here was because we wanted a dog-friendly pub, which is was.
Wonderful evening meal, the service is second to none and the food is made with such care, creative and amazing flavours. Wine was very nice (the Pinot Noir). The atmosphere of the restaurant was chilled and comfortable.
The food was amazing and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. I’ll definitely go there again.
The upstair dining room is relaxed and fun, classic with some modern twist. Service is informal, efficient and cheerful. Especially the seats are counter are fun with an opportunity to engage with the chefs and follow the cooking.
Food is excellent, high-level gastropub food with some modern ideas. The price is moderate and the French wine list well chosen and moderately prices as well.
Wife’s Birthday Celebration.
First time visit . Didn’t have time for a beer in main bar which was very busy and jolly at 6pm on a Thursday , buckets of atmosphere .
Had dinner in restaurant . Food well presented and very tasty. Starters are really more nibbles , so if you have a big appetite , should seek guidance on number of dishes !
Restaurant , very nice ambiance , saw the private dining room upstairs - also looked very inviting . The general feel is created by lots of traditional materials , Wood , copper , leather , brass and the like - masculine sort of place . Definitely return !
Really great place to meet and have a drink but the dining room upstairs is the real treat.
Lovely food, great service and comfortable and classic pub vibe.
Hands down the best service we have received from any restaurant in London! The staff are unreal. I walked in and said I have a booking and they said my name without prompt or looking at a list, what a welcome. From that moment it just got better & better. Huge well done for whoever has trained and recruited the team, perfection and thank you to the team themselves.
But onto the food... Went for Sunday lunch, the food was so good, the flavours were unreal. I want more!!
As a vegetarian I was a little concerned about the menu, thought I’d have to eat sides, but I shouldn’t have been, the Sunday lunch dish was amazing! I didn’t want it to end haha. Full Sunday lunch with veggie gravy and red cabbage, mmmm! My partner loved his meat dish with a mix of lamb & beef.
Drinks were fab. I asked for a glass of red and was offered two to try, little touches like that really make a difference.
100% recommend this place. I can see the effort they have put in and continually make and it’s working! I’ll be back :)
It has been a long time since my wife and I have ventured out into London on a Saturday. We chose Lore of the Land as we wanted a much more low key setting for our anniversary. The service was outstanding as I do have certain challenges when I go out, the staff were very pleasant and discreet.
To make it better I wish there was one in Cambridge.
Superb experience, great food, lovely decoration and music. Great atmosphere!!
Website out of date - we wanted a burger and a drink in a relaxed atmosphere. Instead we got a restaurant and fixed menu which isn’t what we wanted ! Very very disappointed!
We went on a Thursday evening. So, there were a lot of office workers in the bar area and on the street making much noise. Upstairs in the restaurant area the walls are covered with paintings mostly of food.
The food is very interesting with different tastes and textures. A limited menu with the possibility of sharing tapas type dishes, or, just having a main dish for yourself. Perfectly cooked food with great jus, or, sauce. Definitely recommended for whatever event you might want to celebrate, or, business, or, just to enjoy. Friendly and welcoming staff.
Freindly efficient service. Excellent food. The ambiance was relaxed informal and classy. A super place for a freindly gathering.
I ordered sea bream. The taste was good but the overall dish was a little slimy for my taste. I felt the fish could have been cooked for a few seconds longer and I would have preferred the sauces not to be the same consistency as the fish. I quickly ordered potatoes to have a balance. The dessert was very good. The coffee was okay (I don't like chocolate on my coffee and didn't think to ask for it not to be on it as I think in London people tend not to do that in good restaurants). I also measure a restaurant by its coffee as I don't drink. The service and atmosphere were fantastic. I would return but for my taste I'd love there to be a simple plain dish on offer and definitely a good salad. My friend is coeliac and she was well catered for.
If you live in London (or anywhere else for that matter) and haven’t been to Lore of The Land yet... come at once. It seems every time I come here the food and service get better, which at this point I deemed impossible but again and again I am proven wrong. Whether it’s Chef Mikey or one of his stupendous sous-chefs you are always in for a real treat, but make sure you ask Pandy to pull you one of the Gritchie pints to accompany you on this unfaltering experience. If you’re fortunate enough to be graced by the Manager Kit then you’ll soon realise the reason why this pub runs like no other pub in the country. Thank you again for a wonderful evening. I will be seeing you very soon.
Great food but too much on the plate really altho I shouldn't complain! Our waitress was a delight and superb. I do wish modern restaurants would dispense wirh the loud music. It is intrusive and inappropriate and you go to talk to friends, not listen to a concert. Apart from that the ambience is nice and I'd go back.
Bijou and clumsy.
We had a great Valentine's celebration (our 30th)!
Fantastic service, food, vibe everything excellent, will visit again, no question
Excellent meal. Service was prompt and friendly, counter table was a great place to sit. Food lovely.
Amazing food -one of the best roasts in London. I'm only sorry more people are discovering it as it's more difficult to get a table :-)
I’m happily giving this place an overall 5* rating, although I do realize that eventually it might get overbooked;))The food was absolutely amazing - spend the evening chatting with the Chef (we were seated at the counter). Local and seasonal ingredients, cleverly and masterfully combined, make it an unforgettable culinary experience and the wood-burning stove only adds flavour to the dishes and cosiness to the surroundings. The wine list is interesting, the staff is very helpful, the prices are quite reasonable. Bravo, Mr Ritchie!
The restaurant has a great ambience, the staff are nice and the food is excellent.
We had a delightful evening. The food was innovative and quite delicious. The person serving us was attentive, informative and friendly.
Great lunch from start to finish, Outstanding food quality and presentation, portion sizes spot on for Lunch cant wait to return. Chef 's creativity exceeded all expectations
Also special nod to Lore Lager great beer even better glasses........
Stylish London pub with small wood panelled upstairs dining room. Really good vibe but noisy. Lovely very good food but small plates so be prepared to buy many and pay much.
Without doubt food and such a terrific team .
Love that place
Throughly enjoyed our meal and excellent experience
Thoroughly enjoy and our lunch. Slightly worried about the cloudy ale though I was assured it was OK and suffered no after affects. The IPA was much nicer. The service was a real pleasure and the food was very enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back.
Second visit in a month and loved it as much as the first time! Food was fab especially the cauliflower and duck. Service was great- no sense of being rushed through and we were indeed happily sat for 4 hours . We were in a corner and it was quite tight for space for all our plates but nevertheless the lovely team made it work. Thank you
A more expensive meal than planned but all the food was delicious!
I’ve been in hospitality all my life and have been very privileged over 40 years of the very best across the world
This place is way way up there and could be number one
Bartek (hope that’s right) , the servers and the chefs , even v busy head chef were All So Friendly
Guy Ritchie, be proud!
( & not one word heard in mimic of the ‘colourful!’ Patois of The Gentleman
Well done all from my wife (38 years anniversary) and me
Catching up with a good friend we had the most brilliant meal 😍
Exceptional food. Great atmosphere. Really enjoyed it.
My boyfriend and I went to the Lore of the Land for a birthday lunch and we absolutely loved it! The service was brilliant and the staff were very attentive, but not overwhelmingly so. The food was the best that I've ever had, the steak and duck were melt-in-your-mouth gorgeous! The atmosphere was slightly noisy, but it really didnt feel like an issue in comparison to how great everything was! 10/10, I would definitely go back again!!
Excellent venue for lunch. The service was very good, the smallish menu was ideal and the presentation of the food was great. We did not venture to the pods as we were both satisfied after the main course.
