We got a last-minute reservation at The Koi. When we arrived our table was ready. Great happy hour menu that we didn't anticipate. Sushi, small plates, bento box, and yakisoba was all very good. Out wait staff was very friendly.
Great food and service. We will definitely be back!
The sushi & drinks were both beautifully presented & tasted amazing
Two Koi is a friendly and roomy place with great Sushi! I always enjoy the musicians and singers they have perform there!
I threw a surprise party for my boyfriends birthday, there was about 10 other guests, the staff was so friendly and accommodating. We’re teenagers, so most establishments don’t take us seriously or assume we’re going to trash the place and tip poorly, but our waitress was so kind and even stuck around to see a magic card trick at our table. The sushi was amazing & they even gave us a music speaker with a “happy birthday” banner, definitely coming back!
Appreciated the courtesy to reseat at a booth when one opened up before our party arrived. Service was timely and friendly. Food was EXCELLENT. Super Awesome shout out to Tim and Victoria for assisting and confirming gluten-intolerant options for our party.
The service was excellent and sushi was next level.
Always an amazing experience when it come to The Koi. I am never disappointed!
It is beyond overpriced even for happy hour and the sushi rolls are so tiny! I left hungry after spending $150!
Overall food was good, fresh. Crab sashimi was a let down, very small pieces and not even sure if it was real crab - it almost tasted like imitation and they all seem to look the same, very uniform in shape and size. And the price, even though I ordered several pieces of sashimi the total price added up quickly. The quality I have to admit is better than a lot of other places in the PNW, but the price is still too high based on the quality. So although I would recommend The Koi to a friend, I would also let them know that the price is high so beware.
THEKOI is by the University of Washington at Tacoma. More than enough street parking options were available on Sunday. We visited this place at 2PM for Happy Hour because we found many good reviews about its HH deal, 3 rolls for $25. Well, its deal is NO longer available. Please see pictures attached for the current menu/pricing.
Sushi wasn't as good as I thought for the price I paid for, and it was overwhelmingly sweet or salty although we asked to apply less sauce as possible. There was only one server working, and he had to cover 8 tables. We were getting very hungry with the overall slow serving and services.
Unfortunately, we had a bit of stomach ache but riding a Lime scooter after lunch to explore the Museum of Glass and the waterfront made our day to give a 3-star rating ;)
First time eating there. I would go again. I found my favorite sushi roll there - the Commerce Roll, which was salmon, avocado, cucumber, and mango.
Im from Hawaii so I take sushi & Japanese cuisine pretty seriously and it has been really hard to find a good spot in the Pacific Northwest until I ate here. The food is incredible, I would highly recommend the Spicy Ninja roll. I have been here twice and the service is always amazing, in respectable, personable and polite Japanese fashion.
There service was horrible, waited to be seated in an unpacked afternoon setting, and after 20 minutes of waiting. My daughter and I left the establishment on father's day. Will not return ever...
A nice place. The food is excellent and worth the visit. I do think the service can be slow, but we were lucky and got Cruz as our server. He also Bartends. Cruz was very helpful and attentive. I think the other servers could learn that assisting other servers tables (Team work) would be helpful. Overall this is well worth the time and money. A fun and enjoyable restaurant.
Wife and I have been several times but we went Last Saturday 6/15/19 . Ordered 4 rolls, one of which was the Volcano Lobster Roll... this just might be the BEST thing I have ever graced my taste buds with... My server wasn't nearly as attentive as they should have been but the overall was not lessened by it.
This is my favorite Sushi to date... go, order, eat ,enjoy!...rinse, repeat.
I had eaten at The Koi when it was Two Koi. It was excellent then and better now! My two companions had never eaten at the restaurant and were blown away. They will be back with their spouses sooner than later!
Most of the food is good but the prices are too high and the service is terrible. They need to get a little more organized and hire an extra server or two
Just a busy night at the restaurant, prom night. Our waiter was pulling double duty as bartender and waiter at some tables, so I can’t judge him too harshly. Food was excellent as it always is!
This was our first visit to The Koi. We had an amazing waiter and other wait staff who stopped at our table were also fantastic. We had great banter and they were helpful with menu suggestions. The food was great and although they were busy, they got our food out to us fairly quickly. We will definitely be returning.
Our server Allison was great!
It’s okay. It was very pricy, and had the potential to meet the demand the price sets, but it fell short for me. The service was great, but the food was a letdown. I will try again though.
Went here for Mother’s Day and the sushi by far was excellent good value for the quality. Got the rainbow roll, dynamite roll, combo tempura, and the super deluxe nigiri which was amazing.
This is a wonderful sushi spot in downtown Tacoma. Lived here for 2 years and this is the best. They have a fantastic specialty sashimi menu that changes, we had an amazing King Salmon that was melt in your mouth. The rest of the menu is great as well. I had the yakisoba and it was some of the best, tasted like Japan
The food was outstanding and the staff were incredibly kind - they even remembered my Mom and I from a previous recent visit. The Koi is my favorite Tacoma restaurant!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the drinks and of course the sushi.
The food was good, but the initial service was lack luster. It took a while for us to even get water poured to us and waiters were not that attentive after we were done with our meals
A pre-concert dinner. Fish was amazingly fresh. Enjoyed the variety on the menu. Well-trained friendly staff. We’d definitely eat here again when in Tacoma.
Our family has been coming here for years. Brought a friend for the first time. Upon entering immediately noticed some nice subtle changes - refreshed improvements to the restaurant and menu. The staff was attentive, met the owner. Food- delicious!
The Koi was such a great restaurant! Went for a family dinner and enjoyed sushi, teriyaki, and drinks! The food is amazing and the drinks are great! Such an awesome location and glad to be supporting a local Family in our community!
Worst restaurant experience EVER. Finally seated at 6:30pm for a 5:45pm reservation. Two other 4 tops & a 3 top in the same situation. Ordered 4 rolls, nigiri, 2 orders of edamame, 4 drinks. Only received nigiri, 2 rolls, 1 order of edamame, and 2 drinks. Other food was still 30 minutes out. Couldn't make the other 2 drinks because they ran out of bourbon. Please do not waste your time at this place.
The issue was that the restaurant was terribly understaffed in the kitchen for the Michelle Obama crowd that evening. Even though we got seated a little before our reservation time of 5:30pm, it still took 2 hours for us to get our dinner. We had to eat and run literally. Two of us were vegetarian and were served ramen in chicken broth!
My party of 3 people was very pleased with our meals and experience at The Koi. We ordered appetizers (edamame, bacon wrapped scallops, and miso soup) and entrees (black cod misoyaki, chicken katsu), and it was all served quickly. The chicken katsu was a generous serving of chicken with salad and 2 scoops rice; the chicken was crispy and not oily. We found the prices reasonable (compared to similar fare and servings in Seattle).
Everyone we interacted with from the hostess to the multiple wait staff were friendly and pleasant.
If you're planning to dine here prior to attending a concert/event at the Tacoma Dome, make reservations for no less than 2-1/2 to 3 hours prior to the event time.
We had reservations for 3 people at 5pm for a sold-out event starting at 8pm. It was just the right amount of time for us to be seated promptly, eat without feeling pressed for time, then be able to walk back to the Dome (a little more than a 1-mile walk; Light Rail is an option, but it was jam-packed). (By the time we walked out of The Koi around 6:30pm, the restaurant was full and there was a line at the door.)
It was the best Sushi dining experience that we have had in the Seattle/Tacoma area! The food was amazing both the presentation and the taste! Being next to the UW Tacoma is convenient for us, but parking can be difficult at times! Staff was extremely helpful and informative on food recommendations which made the overall taste experience excellent!
Great food great atmosphere over a awesome experience we enjoyed a nice evening with the kids was busy so food took a little bit longer than normal but worth the wait
I love the new menu and the service was top-notch! best sushi in Tacoma!
Outstanding well integrated service; huge portions / massive rolls for the price/ wonderful all around
We had a lovely time and delicious food. It was a perfect choice for Valentines Day
