The Ivy Buchanan Street Glasgow
Superb food and establishment but i dont like a service charge added on...
I would recommend The Ivy to family and friends, the ambiance was nice, it did go dark quite quickly at one point, which didn't feel very smooth, but one the lighting settled, was fitting for the time of evening.
Service was a little too formal for me, but that is simply preference. Hosts were very smart, friendly and attentive.
My partner was asked for ID for her drink, which is obviously ok, however, our server didn't do this, she sent somebody else over to do it, must have been nervous to do so.
I'm not a huge fan of service charges and at 12.5% can be a little steep given the restaurant is pricey.
Music at a good volume throughout and the music itself was varied well.
Food was really good, I had the Chicken Milanese and my partner had the Sirloin, both delicious!
we had a table for four at 8pm
we got a table immediately
we ordered round of drinks and still water
1/2 hour later drink still no drinks
the waitress came to take the food order
i asked where were the drinks she replied i,ll
take the food order then i will bring the drinks
i asked if we can get the drinks now since we waited half hour
she was not very happy we eventually got the drinks
we had two bottles of wine we had to pour our own wine
wont be coming back
The brand name in itself should mean something but alas disappointment was the order of the day. Let's be positive first, beautiful restoration, comfortable seating, blackened cod was apparently delicious as was the apple tart, and the chips were excellent - that's it I am afraid to say. On the negative side there was non-stop inappropriate music for evening dining at a level that inhibited conversation, the wine was overpriced, for what it was, the other menu choices [table of 4] were just ok, not what was expected from 'The Ivy'. Three guests had the Tempura prawns/squid and were shocked that only 5 prawns were distributed between the 3 portions though there was in addition a stray tail. The service was slow but the staff themselves were mostly really nice. Perhaps it was a Sunday evening thing when the restaurant was not full and it was the end of a busy few days – should not matter. The only link to the London sister restaurant was the very surprising automatic 12.5% service charge added to the bill – common in Central London but not elsewhere and in this case inappropriate. I have had superior dining experiences in Glasgow on several occasions hence will not rush back.
The afternoon tea’s took an hour to arrive from ordering and no member of staff came over to explain until I prompted them after 35minutes. The manager did come and apologise and explain there was a problem in the kitchen so I did appreciate her honesty and her professional manner. We were with my 91 year old gran to celebrate her birthday so I cannot say the wait didn’t detract from the experience because it did. The manager did however reflect it in the bill which I did appreciate. The cucumber sandwich had obviously been prepared for a while as the bread was crusty on top and cucumber was soggy, apart from that the food was fine. I won’t return for the afternoon tea but I am returning for a meal with my husband in December and I hope the kitchen issues have been resolved by then.
After eating at The Ivy on Sunday I asked her would you go back her answer was
“A million % YES”
Brunch at The Ivy is fantastic, there is a varied menu with so many wonderful options, and the food is incredible. The service is outstanding and the restaurant is beautiful. Would definitely recommend!
Food - I've eaten nicer
Venue - very stylish, bar rules makes it difficult to talk to your party while waiting on your table to become ready given its a seating bar
Bill - quite expensive experience compared to other Glasgow restaurants
Food was amazing and service was outstanding!!! Was a great atmosphere on a Saturday night and throughly enjoyed ourselves
We had a lovely time at the Ivy. Busy but not overcrowded. Service and food were very good.
Its not cheap so would be a treat for most rather than a regular haunt.
My meal was excellent (scallops to start then blackened cod) however my partner’s prawn and monkfish curry was such a tiny portion that I will be unlikely to talk him into visiting again. He didn’t want to complain at the time and ruin the night but looking back he should have brought it to the managements attention. Lovely decor and ambiance but music upstairs was far too loud. If visiting request a downstairs table away from the door and avoid the curry (unless you are on a portion controlled diet!)
My first visit to The Ivy and was a Birthday treat for my husband. Loved the decor and ambiance food was exceptional and fairly good value. The waiter we had was very attentive and polite but not intrusive at all. If I have any thing negative to say it is the compulsory service charge that was added to my bill, which was £15 extra for just 2 people. I prefer to tip what I feel is appropriate for the amount spent and the service which was very good and would have left at least £10 had it not be already added on to my Bill. We were given a small bun like thing filled with cream and raspberry’s with a chocolate Happy Birthday sign on it which was a very nice touch. Overall had a great experience and will be back.
The venue is lovely, it had a good atmosphere and a lovely drinks menu. Food was average but worth a visit.
i booked dinner at the ivy to celebrate my birthday. i was very impressed, from the moment i entered the restaurant to the moment i left i felt special. the staff gave a warm welcome and an attentive service. the food was incredible and the toilets were very impressive.
unfortunately they didn't have the wine my partner had ordered but gave a more expensive wine at no extra cost.
i will definitely be back.
Could not fault the food. The drinks were rather overpriced and my husband and I found some of the staff rather aloof. Didn’t live up to the hype!
Everything about the Ivy was fantastic, our waiter that night was outstanding and the service he provided myself and my guest with was great
Enjoyed my visit. Food was exceptional. Service was not perfect but good. An expensive but lovely experience
We had booked and we were shown to our table upstairs on arrival
I would not like to be seated downstairs as felt a bit cramped and very noisy
food was lovely, we were serviced our starters, we had not finished and our mains arrived. so had to make room on the tiny table.
excellent value for money will be back!
Beautiful building but disappointing expensive food had to send back as cold and a. 13% service charge on a table for 2 people is unacceptable
We had a lovely waiter who was friendly and professional which totally enhanced the visit. Food tasty, wine very pleasant. The one big negative is having to queue for quite some time for the lavatory. This is not acceptable. Individual toilets with basin and mirror within the cubicle means a line of ladies waiting while hand washing, reapplication of make up and hairstyling goes on in the privacy of the toilet. This may have seemed a nice idea to the designer but to the "waiting" public it is not practical.
Food over priced.
Service charge should be made more clear and optional plus service charge too much.
Our table had debris from our starter course and was not cleared away during our meal. Very poor considering the cost .
Stunning, lush decor with a cool and exciting menu to match.
From the start things were poor. We were given a table close to the door so sat in the draught close to the bar and incoming customers which led to a horrible experience.
Starters were both very good and I was expecting the food to e excellent but not a bit of it thereafter.
I ordered the lobster linguine. The pasta had been overcooked to the extent that it was largely stuck together in a single strand. The rest of the dish was tepid. I would say it was no better than a microwave meal.
My partner had lamb which came in a bowl with a glob of mash and carrots of steel.
We didn’t stay for dessert.
Great service and food. Definitely be back. Was as good as, if not better, than the other Ivy Restaurants I’ve been too. Cocktails were brilliant also.
Had Lunch with a friend. It was very busy and full of Ladies who Lunch and couples. The Ivy has a Beautiful, very smart interior. From the moment you arrive and are shown to your table you feel looked after. The staff are attentive but unobtrusive, professional but friendly. The food is delicious with varied choice for all tastes. Some dishes have accompaniment and some don’t, the sides start at about £4 each. One course and 2 cocktails each came to a quite pricey £91 although this did include a discretionary 12.5% service charge. The cocktails cost as much as the food, so for me, if returning for Lunch I’d probably stick to wine. They do a set 2 and 3 course menu, however the choice is limited to four main dishes. Having said all of that I would recommend The Ivy.
Exceptional service and food was outstanding. Will definitely be back soon.
Staff, and food were amazing. Really good value for money. The interior is gorgeous and it’s generally a great place to be.
The decor and ambience is absolutely outstanding . The paintings were particularly interesting , and the whole restaurant gave the impression of walking into a magical world. The service was splendid , we were not hurried nor were we kept waiting for anything. I was somewhat disappointed in the lunchtime menu. The food was beautifully presented and well cooked, but rather ordinary for such a lovely setting.
Went to celebrate our anniversary. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome . The ambience and the decor are outstanding . Our waitress was excellent , very attentive and friendly, nothing was any bother for her . Ordered the steak tartare for stater which was a delight to the senses . Main courses are fabulous but you will need to add sides like vegetables or potatoes as they don’t come as standard. Nevertheless prices are commensurate to the food . It was a special occasion made even more so by the environment. Will definitely be going back .
Food, service and atmosphere all very good. I'd definitely return and would recommend.
fOOD GOOD, SERVICE VERY SLOW!!! WOULD NOT RUSH BACK, MY WIFE WENT WITH A BOOKING OF 7 AND RAVED ABOUT THE SERVICE DOWNSTAIRS
This was our second visit within 3 weeks, first time we were seated upstairs, which I just about managed, so on this visit when we were told it was upstairs, I asked to be seated downstairs, the staff were very accommodating and were seated near the door , which was ok because it was a very mild day , but we felt that in winter it would be somewhat chilly . The flow of traffic in and out was frequent, and as this is where you wait for coats as people are checking in , can become quickly crowded, so think this is a point to be looked at . Our meal was delicious, the only little things that could be picked out were the vegetarian shepherds pie , the stuffed stem of the mushroom was chewy not very nice so wasn’t eaten , the sweet I had was the apple pie and ice cream , the base of this was hard and a little brown ? Not very nice . Our waitress Keira was extremely efficient and polite, friendly an excellent team member. I feel the drinks are very over priced especially the non alcoholic drinks, but we still enjoyed the experience of The Ivy
Most enjoyable, decor staff and food was first class, hope to return again.
Lovely place but not all our food was of great standard. All three starters very good as was my husband and sons main course. It was my birthday and was looking forward to a great meal. I ordered the lamb. The vegetables were cold and lamb barely warm . The staff took it away. Said 10 mins for a replacement. Waited 25 mins by which time the others were finished. Although veg was fine the lamb was not. I also felt off sitting eating on my own. Staff took it away. We were given free desserts and the took money off our bill. Staff were good but not what I expected. Would I go back...probably love the decor but maybe choose a different main course. Maybe the steak my son had.
We went to the Ivy for a birthday celebration and it did not disappoint. The food and drinks were fantastic, and staff were very attentive. They went to the trouble of putting together a little birthday dessert for my husband with a candle, which was a nice touch.
Quite disappointed, it was my friends birthday. We told the waitress but she ignored us. I love the decor in this place especially in the toilets, however they were dirty. I went the first week it opened and everything was pristine, it needs a thorough deep clean to keep up standards. Service was quite poor so I don’t like the set service charge as our waitress did not deserve a tip.
Lovely place to visit but the price didn’t match the standard of the food which was very average. Disappointed.
Beautiful restaurant and good customer service. Food fantastic - a little expensive but with going.
I had expected something special but was sadly disappointed . The food was appropriately priced being what I would describe as mid-range. The greeting staff were fine but the waiting staff were not up to scratch - " what would yous want to drink " is not a good start. The menu was far from special . Indeed I would say very ordinary. When I requested to have the Dover Sole taken off the bone I was told that it takes too long and can't be done by staff - always a mark of a mid range restaurant. The music was horrendous always with a back beat drum / thump - very club like. I expected a degree of sophistication and regrettably there wasn't any.
It was our 20 th wedding anniversary so a special occasion, would have been nice if the restaurant acknowledged that, a small cake etc? The first table we were given was next to a back door with a draft moved to another table stuck in a corner , but we just stayed at this table, food was ok nothing special, my husband had the steak which was really fatty, I had lobster linguine but the lobster didn’t taste too fresh? The £20 service charge was outrageous the service did not match the charge, unfortunately we wouldn’t come back, so many nice restaurants in Glasgow at half the price, we have eaten in lots of restaurants all over the world and if you are going to charge these prices the food, service has to be first clsss!
