Ordered a half roast chicken.
It was actually a plate of chicken pieces overcooked and mostly bone. The vegetables were cold and the thick cut chips overcooked!
Won’t be having dinner there again.
Not really prepared for us to visit. It’s like our booking was a surprise to them. If you do posh afternoon tea deliver it in ONE SINGLE go so we can photograph it and re-send . Fantastic location combined with less than ordinary service regrettably. We ha brekkie in the hotel too. Staff excellent; just too few. Shame. Ultimately poor value for money.
Didn’t eat. Just had cocktails. My whisky sour was good. Service unattentive. Despite being housed in an incredible building, the space feels across between an airline lounge and an office, with slightly tired and dreary furniture. Handsome the Hansom is not.
The service was incredibly inattentive, we were left alone for ages despite being one of only a few tables in the restaurant that night. We had to wave our arms around to get a dessert menu, the bill, payment done etc etc
Unusually really poor service - to the point that I won’t be returning again. Such a shame as this was my go to Bar in Kings Cross
Afternoon tea for our daughter’s 40th for a family party of 8 began with some confusion over the booking. It appears that OpenTable 3.30 bookings do not automatically mean“afternoon tea“, so though a phonecall the previous day to the restaurant had been made to check the arrangements it took a little while to sort a table. Nevertheless the staff made every effort to recover the situation and were friendly and helpful, even offering a complimentary glass of champagne to the guests. The choice of teas was wide, the sandwich fillings varied, as were the pastries, with contrasting and delicious flavours, textures and colours. Warm scones with jam and clotted cream ended the feast which took place in a busy but comfortable environment. As we were staying in the Hotel we also had breakfast in The Hansom which though a buffet style service, had good quality, hot, and fresh items on offer.
It was ok, but steak was almost inedible. Service wasn’t great either. All in all a rather average lunch.
Disappointed. Sandwiches were not fresh, they were cold and hard due to being refrigerated for sometime, tasteless too. Pastries were nice as were the scones.
Furniture could do with an upgrade, looks a bit tired.
I had tea here in the past, however based on this visit I'd get my afternoon tea elsewhere when in London. Sorry!
Friendly service in vibrant and relaxing surroundings. Great food and drink!
So calm for central London. It’s a lovely place to eat drink and stay. The people who work there are always so polite and helpful. Building is spectacular.
Great location, fabulous food wonderfully presented, friendly and helpful staff.
Quiet beautiful - service a little slow but a wonderful breakfast spot
The cocktails were beautiful, we loved Discover Paris and By Royal Appointment. The snacks were also scrumptious especially the fried chicken and truffle Parmesan chips. Our server was fab, friendly and truly made our evening enjoyable. Thank you!
Small menu but good food and fun band playing, made for a great evening. Service could be slow but staff were apologetic (and were obviously under resourced) and were very helpful. Cocktails were almost too good!
Lovely evening but the live music did not play for long enough, which was disappointing as they were good!
The service was appallingly bad. Had to wait 20 mins for our drinks to arrive, then mine didn’t come with the milk I’d asked for, 4 times for the water, scones arrived without any cream, had to ask again and had to ask 3 times for the bill. For £38 per head ( where we only got one drink) this was shockingly bad. I only hope this was a one off as it wasn’t full to capacity either
I had booked afternoon tea but it is not served on Tuesdays, which the website didnt state. That was fine and we sat down for lunch, but it took 50 minutes for us to get our starters and another 25 for our mains. I appreciate we have all just reopened and there may have been issues, but some dialogue would have been appreciated, especially as the starter was salmon in a jar. Our mains were also cold but by that point we were just hungry.
Good was badly cooked and cold. The worst food I’ve ever had at a restaurant.
I have eaten at this hotel on a couple of occassions so thought it would be ideal for a socially distanced lunch with a friend. My ratings are based on the waiting staff and food.
The initial experience was not good. Having booked lunch we were seated at a tiny wobbly table. We eventually got moved to a dining table (!) the restaurant manager informed us we had the table for just 1.5 hours!! I objected given I had travelled that same time to get to the Hansom. I wasn't at all impressed with her attitude - not our fault the tables are not fit for dining.
We had a good waiter and he made our 2.5 hour visit welcoming and enjoyable.
Amazing team, Michaela explained our afternoon tea very well and took good care of us. . Very good atmosphere, we had a very nice experience.
Excellent ambience - in a spectacular setting. Though limited menu choice and service was a tad slow
Turns out this was just the bar so that was a bit of a shame as we didn’t fancy eating a full meal at low lounge tables. The service was clearly a bit stretched and our particular waitress poured fizz and wine like she’d not done it before dripping red all over the table! Beautiful venue clearly struggling a bit to keep that high end vibe in the current circumstances. We’d come again but just for cocktails and snacks as the food was pretty good.
The service was slow. The waiter was surly. The food came separately and was cold. The cocktails were the only good part. When we complained, the manger was excellent.
Before coming, I specifically booked an outdoor table - available through OpenTable. I called to confirm as we are GP’s and during the outbreak we wanted to make sure that we were seated outdoors and socially distanced.
On arrival, the host explained that the terrace had closed 2 hours before — which should have meant we shouldn’t have been able to make that booking on the app.
It’s nothing like their social media account, it’s just the lobby of the hotel with people checking in. It’s very deceiving and disappointing.
Very nice staff and food was great. The servicing staff knew a lot about the food and was able to help when we had questions. Enjoyed the experience very much.
Had dinner here recently and I have to say that the experience was completely underwhelming. Whilst the restaurant and surroundings were beautiful and service excellent, the food was average at best. The mocktail I ordered was watery and poorly put together. The fish and chips I ordered was particularly disappointing - cold peas that had to be reheated and unseasoned fish that was warm and mushy. All put on very small dish that made it very difficult to eat. I'm afraid I wouldn't recommend this place to others.
The place is amazing. Beautiful decor and very relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and the service was great despite it being busy. The food was tasty and the cocktails very well made. The live band were perfect, great jazz-esque covers of some well-known songs made a great ambience but was still easy to have a conversation with my party. Everything about the experience was great, I'd definitely recommend and go back again.
The Hansom is a beautiful place to eat with a great atmosphere. The food is good and the service excellent
An unusual setting in this magnificent station Hotel , the huge ceiling perfect for an airy drink with carefully social distancing seating .Lovely duo kept us entertained with Jazz music and an unexpected free cocktail made a Friday night drink a real occasion. Loved every moment and well worth a visit
We did not pay the service charge during our visit. It was disappointing that in a quiet restaurant and bar we had to flag attention for everything we requested - from drinks to the bill. On one occassion, we had to almost shout for a drink at a nearby bartender which felt extremely uncomfortable but as we are all encouraged to not move around at the moment, it seemed thr only option for all of us sitting.
Cocktails were delicious but could only have two, as had then missed our table reservation at a nearby restaurant.
The hostess was pleasant and friendly when asking us what went wrong - she encouraged me to give feedback here.
The venue was beautiful and the live music was such a great feel to our evening and we enjoyed ourselves a lot, it was just ashame that the staff were not as attentive in a quiet restaurant and bar on a quiet night of the week.
Great afternoon tea with lovely service from Elisa! Thank you so much!
We are from the US and we have to come back to London just for this restaurant. Amazing! Delicious! Service impeccable! Thank you!
Fantastic place - and shhh.. but you can also pretend you're in a Spice Girls video!
One of the best places in London. Classy yet understated. Highly recommend it.
While the table was good and not too close to the next table the actual tea experience was disappointing. The sandwiches were stAndard, run of the mill, the scones were toasted and the cakes were extremely sweet, so we didn’t finish them all as they were not particularly nice.
Service was disorganized and not attentive.
I have had much better afternoon teas for less so would not return. I had expected more
We had a lovely afternoon tea for my Birthday on Saturday. We opted for the free flowing champagne one and it was free flowing they kept us well topped up. Our waitress was soo good to. Highly recommend 😃
Good place to have afternoon tea in a historic and grand building. Seelction of sandwiches and pastries was good and the service was polite albeit a bit slow.
Four of us and an 18 month old had a Boxing Day afternoon tea. The service was fantastic and the amazing space was very suitable for a toddler to wander when he’d lost interest in the food. The food was very nice but probably would have preferred an extra sandwich and one less cake, five was too much for us although they packed up our leftovers. I’d definitely recommend but the food probably isn’t as high-end as the hotel deserves.
