Food good, but that’s where it ended. Service poor. We were told to wait at bar until table ready and more or less forgotten about. Had to chase up table... apparently they didn’t know we were there????
Our table was tiny and other people standing over the top of us, leaning on our chairs when we were trying to eat.... started to turn Restaurant into nightclub when we were still eating. Not an enjoyable experience at all! Food was tasty but that’s about the only good thing to report.
Had the best waiter, he made the experience what it was. Would recommend.
Lovely lunch, food and cocktails were great. Staff were fantastic
Great place that turns into a club afterwards with great DJs! Foid was great except the oysters had an extra ingredient in it that wasn’t on the menu! Too much spring onions which overpowered the chilli vinegar flavour! Otherwise food & atmosphere was great:)
Fantastic food, great service. Accommodated our booking for eight just hours before our arrival, for which we were appreciative. This place is directly across the road from our office so we'll be going there a lot more often from now on! Thanks.
Great venue for a quiet lunch. Food was superb and the service friendly.
Food and service was good. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had a cute little alcove which was nice as it gave a more private setting within the larger bar/restaurant atmosphere. Food was quite overpriced for what it was. $18 for 4 dumplings?
The staff were super nice and were able to accommodate for all of our dietary requirements. The food was fantastic and so was our entire experience there. Would highly recommend.
The George was amazing. We enjoyed our Iftar there and the food was superb!
Food good/ service bad.
Service in hospitality is a key ingredient to a good night out, not just the food.
Love the half price cocktail Thursday promo - Thursday is the new Friday!
Highly recommend for groups as lots of space & good options available for sharing. Service was friendly but we had to ask for second bowl of rice as only one delivered to our table as well as ask for more water. Other than this, we enjoyed the food as there were options available for vegetarians in the group. Everyone had a great time.
Service was terrible. Our reservation was at 8:45pm, but the place was already like a nightclub. Half our order didn't come, ages between courses, we kept getting asked to repeat our order (just write it down!) and around an hour after ordering we were advised our chosen main wasn't available. Maybe it's better at lunch or at 6pm?
Booked a table for 5 people weeks I. Advance. Upon arrival, taken to a bar table with seating for 3. Had to wait at the bar for 15mins for a table to become free. First round of drinks when ordered at the table took over 25mins to arrive.
Food was amazing, atmosphere was fun, but the service and organisation unfortunately let down what was to be a memorable birthday dinner.
Staff were amazing. It really made the whole dining experience. Amazing food
Some of the best food we have ever eaten!! Service was amazing and the atmosphere and is nice!
Food was hit and miss, floor staff seemed lacking of knowledge and had to be asked multiple times about what food was (we ate banquet but had two people with dietary requirements). Also we were only told there was another booking on our table 5 minutes before- it would've been nice to know at time of booking!
The food came out all at once and far to quickly which is why we i gave it 4 stars. It was a shame as it spoilt what otherwise would have been a very good experience
Service was really bad. No one took us of us when we arrived (even if I booked). Struggled to get my table number (had to chase up different waitresses), had different answers, couldn't order; when finally a kind waitress moved us to her service area. She took our order but food arrived before our cocktails... very disappointing!
Music extremely loud and overall noisy atmosphere.
I didn't find my dinner relaxing at all.
We thought the meals were fresh, delicious and different at The George on Collins. The only aspect I found a bit off-putting was being able to talk over the volume of the music.
Pre-theatre dinner was really convenient and service was quick. Food was delicious and staff friendly. Drinks experience was less positive - be careful of the "half price cocktails". Ordered a negroni (which was listed as a house cocktail) but was charged the full price as we didn't specify that we wanted a half price cocktail when ordering. Also didn't receive other pre- dinner drinks for our group until the meal was nearly finished.
Thank you to Ricky and his team! Exceptional service!
This place is very nice and sophisticated, however not having a cloak room is a nuisance. The dance floor is not technically a real sized dance floor but they do try their best to make it one.
Biggest issue is the wait for drinks is terrible. You can expect wait times of 20 minutes just to get your order taken because the staff are busy with mixing cocktails. So if you are ok with waiting 20 minutes for a drink at peak time such as Saturday night 11pm then this place will probably be ok for you. If you prefer not spending large parts of your night waiting to order a drink I recommend visiting elsewhere.
Food was good, but the service was awful. We were seated outside on a Saturday evening with what should’ve been a nice pre show dinner alfresco that instead turned into a night of inattentive waiters, disorganised food orders and just a general lack of care.
It disappoints me as I can see there are many 5 star reviews so perhaps it was just a bad night for them but I won’t be giving it another go.
As I stated, the food was good but the major letdown was the service or lack thereof.
Amazing food! Excellent atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. I would highly recommend The George.
The service was exceptional. The lady who served us had gone above and beyond to ensure that we had a great time.
The foods were great, except every dish that we ordered had a bit of chilli in it, and as a result we couldn't share it with our little girl. So if you're a chilli fan, then check it out.
We were seated at the back of the restaurant the ambiance Is amazing l love the waitress’s in my section there hospitality was amazing 🤩
Really great service, helpful, patient and AMAZING food!
Fantastic menu, service and cocktails
My dining experience at The George on Collins was very pleasant. The food was good and was delivered promptly. The service was impeccable - our waiter was very diligent, using every opportunity to check on our dining experience. I very much enjoyed the evening and would strongly recommend the venue.
Great venue for a group of 7 with amazing food for sharing and catering to multiple dietary requirements. Fun and vibey venue in a great location if in the city for a show or weekend stay. Highly recommended!
Fantastic spot to meet with friends for birthday celebration. Lots happening great atmosphere lovely service fabulous food. A great night had by all!
The atmosphere is the restaurant was energetic and vibrant. We were allocated the booth seats which was cosy. The food and drinks came out quickly and timely so we could go to the Comedy Festival. Each and every dish was beautifully presented and it was as soon as it looked. We ordered the Betel Leaf with roasted snapper (Betel leaf was substituted with prawn cracker due to unavailability in the market), Twice Cooked Lamb ribs, Pork Belly and Green Curry with Chicken. Loved them all! Would dine at George on Collins again.
A fantastic venue with amazing staff who made us very welcome and looked after. Thank you and look forward to visiting again soon :)
Love, love, loved this restaurant, it is an absolute little gem on Collins Street.
It literally would have received 5 stars in every category for us, except that our initial waiter was quite rude when he thought we were sitting there not ordering anything (to a point where he stopped in front of our booth and looked at his watch!)
We opted to use the QR code on the table (made it easier for splitting the bill) and when the drinks and food started to arrive on our table, he became much friendlier, but that approach should never have happened. We had only been there for 15mins (had ordered drinks while we were waiting for the last member of our party to arrive) so it was unnecessarily rude.
However the rest of the wait staff were lovely, the food was AMAZING!! and the restaurant itself was just beautiful.
I love the feed me lunch menu. So incredibly delicious for such a reasonable price. I have told all my friends they must go. (We had vegetarian so I can’t vouch for the other menu.)
FOOD = 4.5/5: The comedy festival banquet has amazing wok tossed greens, a fresh, fishy shredded chicken salad and wonderfully fluffy rice. The sweet sticky pork belly is amazing crispy and tender, but the sauce’s sweetness can be a slightly overwhelming.
ATMOSPHERE/SERVICE = 5/5: The vibe of the place is amazing! Great interior design and fast service.
Great place for a drink and the menu and quality of the food was fantastic. Highly recommend this place - which has been completely revamped from the days of the Long Room.
Book for pre-show meal. Staff were very attentive and accommodating when asked to move to a booth. The food was beautifully presented, tasty and value for money.
Amazing food! Service was a bit slow for drinks, we would’ve had an additional round or two of drinks if our server had come over more often. Food came out incredible quick!
Also found it a bit cheeky that no mention of a public holiday surcharge in booking or arriving, especially since the Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday isn’t a public holiday.
