The Fox & Falcon
The Fox & Falcon serves up a clean, modern menu featuring familiar dishes, each anchored by in-season, locally-sourced ingredients, that shine under the tutelage of executive chef Matt Ruzga’s execution.
Food took forever to come out.
The staff could not be nicer, but the restaurant is just okay. The menu is good, but the food was eh. We ordered the grilled brussel sprouts, which came out very hard. We shared the cauliflower steak, salad nicoise and branzino. The cauliflower didn't have much flavor, the seared tuna on the niciose was delicious, but was served with a caesar-like dressing and the fish was okay. We wanted to like this restaurant as it was recommended to us. I don't feel we can do the same. Sorry.
Service was awful. Slow, had to ask for things 3-4 times, Food orders messed up twice. Really disappointing!
Good food, pleasant atmosphere, but this place is a bit overpriced for what it is.
The food stood out among restaurants. Very special and fresh so we felt comfortable spending a little more. But just loved the atmosphere. Beautiful space. Loved it!
Steak was outstanding. A bit pricey but so close to SOPAC and cozy place.
Excellent service and food before going to show at SOPAC
We came in for brunch for the first time with a group of 6. We were seated at 11:30 waited a few minutes for water service and ordered drinks. We held off on food order until the drinks came... first mistake. Drinks (3 sodas, 1 coffee and 2 Bloody Marys) took 15 minutes to arrive. Still okay we can deal. We order food and after 50 minutes of waiting I had to flag down the manager to check on our food. Another 10-12 mins before food finally arrived. 2 members of our party got burgers (asked for Medium) that were cooked to Rare, they were so hungry for food that we decided to eat them anyway and not delay us any longer (one had a train to catch). Cesare salad with chicken was small and bland with just cold pieces of pre-cut chicken on it and the chicken sandwiches had small chicken breasts on them. Manger didn't seem overly concerned about our issue and are server we barely saw after ordering our food. For the prices (brunch burger is $21, chicken Sandwich is $17) they are charging service should be on point and food should be prepared correctly.
Has a really nice vibe and the food was good. Wished there was a few more selections but overall, nice fun ambiance.
Service was extremely slow but food was pretty good.
New to the menu are a Jerk Chicken Wings appetizer and a main course of Niçoise salad with
seared yellowfin tuna, both are excellent. Food and service are always top notch. Great space.
From the moment we arrived, for our very first visit, Shannon and Dave were warmly welcoming and helpful to us, and my father who uses a walker for necessary assistance.
Our waiter, Nixon, was friendly, attentive and timely. He was happy and we felt that way, too. The assistant staff cared that we were well-served, as well.
We didn’t know what to expect from Dave, his staff and his restaurant because reviews were too varying to help is form a pre-opinion. Well, we were absolutely delighted with our experience. Our food, made to our individual requests (2 people—vegan) was delicious and well-balanced. Whereas some restaurants want make a statement with each dish, this chef served an honest dinner to us; each ingredient belonged and worked in harmony with each other component; not heavy or buttery or salty—just honest flavors.
We will surely return.
Truly not a good experience. Owner was nice but our server was miserable from the start. Extremely rude and dismissive. They ran out of several things on the menu (including the one and only fish dish) and the stuff that they did have was tasteless, undercooked or dry. With the exception of desserts (which were delicious and made on sight) our party of 12 all left unhappy and disappointed. Feel badly bc the place itself is nice and the drinks were good but it was such a poor experience that I had to write a review (my first). Hope they get their act together but regardless we will not be back.
Excellent service, food and ambiance. Will definitely be back! Worth $$$$ for the pork chop & half roast chicken. Enjoyed delicious meatball appetizer & the host surprised us with a toast when we arrived for our anniversary - that was a lovely surprise.
A table for Sunday brunch. So, it was quiet. My friends and family said that they enjoyed their meal, although my chicken sandwich was really overcooked. The breast was very dry and even additional condiments didn't help much. No excuse for that when the kitchen wasn't overwhelmed. I didn't want to spoil a birthday celebration, so I didn't complain. Service was decent and attentive.
The brunch was expensive at about $25 a head including tax and tip (no alcohol). No wonder it was so quiet......
Good excellent! Ambiance in our room didn’t seem as nice as in room closer to bar ie lighting etc.
But overall all was Delicious
We were at an outside table and the only ones outside for most of our dining. The service was okay, probably what one would expect from a “bar” more than a restaurant. We were expecting more appetizer foods, pre- theater type of small plates. What we did eat was fine.
Went there for dinner. Overall , over priced for portions received. Little things that add up: Limited menu, no option for a side salad with my main course, not even offered bread for the table. Not returning.
This was my first time dining here since it became The Fox & Falcon. We liked it, but--through no fault of the restaurant--the people in the booth next to ours were extremely loud, and one of them was a cackler. We could barely hear ourselves think. We liked the food though, and we will certainly give the restaurant another try.
A fun place to enjoy a great meal, staff is attentive and happy, food is delicious and creative. Steak specials are better than any NY city steakhouse. Last time we were their we spoke to the owner (very friendly guy) and recommended they offer espresso. Much to our pleasure they now have an espresso machine, thanks for listening. I love the Fried Fennel appetizer, and the Panzanella salad... delish. Also, craft cocktails are just yummy. Looking forward to going again soon.
Good food limited menu.
We are treated like royalty here. It’s my favorite restaurant right now. I love the menu and that it is both a great place for an intimate date, an after work drink, or a family dinner.
Really great food...just oversalted. I would give them a try again after they are open longer and sort that out as otherwise a great spot with great service. The pork chop my mom ordered was not over seasoned... The chicken, pasta and sides were.
Great ambiance, the design is awesome. The food was delicious with smaller portions so you don't get stuffed by any means. The dessert was the only thing that was disappointing. We ordered both by recommendation and neither was anything we'd ever order again. But the starters, entrees and cocktails were all incredibly good.
Great food, solid service.
Great food. A bit pricey. Friendly staff, good music, and nice bar.
Wagyu Carpaccio was superb; best pork chop ever and the scallops were delicious!!! Great staff ...Go! You'll love it
Great ambiance. Menu a bit limited but it’s all delicious. Lots of areas to dine.
Overall very consistent with service and food. Cocktails are always on point!
Best spot in South Orange
They were both things I liked, and things I did not like about this restaurant – it was my first visit.
On the plus side, the ambience is nice if a bit loud, and there’s ample parking right behind the restaurant. The menu was interesting and for the most part we enjoyed our dishes.
On the minus side, they were playing heavy-metal pretty loudly when I walked in, enough so that I asked if there was another place to sit. I was meeting a friend and we wanted to talk, which would not have been possible, but it got better. We both ordered a scallop appetizer that the menu described as scallops with radishes and blood orange in a citrus vinaigrette. It was light and refreshing, BUT it appeared it was really one scallop that had been sliced paperthin eight times horizontally, and we think it was raw, or extremely rare. Tasty, but not at all what we expected based on the menu description, and $16. I ordered a second appetizer of beef carpaccio – it was just okay, and $21 for an appetizer portion. I was still hungry. I ordered blueberry cheesecake for dessert. It came in a jar and tasted like lemon cheesecake which again was not expected. I wouldn’t have ordered if I had known - I don’t really like lemon.
We each also had a single cocktail. Our dinner for two cost $110 + tip.
We had a wonderful first experience at F & F! It started with an extremely warm greeting from the owner and the excellent service continued throughout the meal. My husband and I shared the mixed greens salad and then we each had a delicious and ample pasta dish for our main course accompanied by an excellent red wine recommended by our server. The piece de resistance was the peach skillet fruit pie topped with vanilla gelato (the fruit varies but the preparation stays the same - can’t wait to try the other flavors). Double yum!
We just moved to the area from Brooklyn and it turns out that we had been to both of the owner’s previous establishments there. I’m sure this connection added to our great experience and we’re so glad David is gracing South Orange with his experience and expertise (not to mention it was really fun to see the very cool photos and other design elements from his former Park Slope place).
The restaurant is quite big with three different bars, making for an upbeat and sociable atmosphere, which we have missed out in the suburbs.
We will be back very soon!
Not sure if it was an off night, but I really did not enjoy my food...my husband and our guest had chicken and a burger...I had the Gratin which was downright tangy, mushy and unfortunately not to good. I will give it another try in a few months.
It was a bit noisy, but not horrible! Shannon our server was excellent! The menu is a little small maybe a few more choices. My halibut was very good but would like a side with it for $36. So you’re not getting a value there. My Husband & brother in law had no completed with there pastas, but again a little small! The ac was excellent on a very warm night!
Always great, The pork chop (new on menu) was outstanding. Cooked perfectly, moist with a great outer crust. Also new on the menu was a Panzanella salad that was excellent. The cast iron pan pie is perfect to share.
GF options were great! Service was incredible! Can’t wait to go back!
Excellent, inventive cuisine. Attentive staff. Lovely atmosphere. Will certainly be back soon!
Totally enjoyed our experience, would suggest a smaller steak option, both size an price!
Our Caesar salad was wonderful and the cast iron chicken special along with the lamb ragu were delicious.
Looking forward to becoming a regular at this great spot! Word of advice: be sure to leave room for desserts! Every bite, DELICIOUSNESS!!!!
