The Factory Kitchen - Los Angeles
Helmed by Restaurateur Matteo Ferdinandi, his wife Beverage Director Francine Diamond-Ferdinandi and their longtime friend and Partner Executive Chef Angelo Auriana, the Factory Kitchen re-defined the approach and the experience to casual dining in the city by combining elements of culinary arts, service, and design.
A traditional Italian Restaurant & Bar in the heart of the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, the Factory Kitchen culinary concept focuses on local recipes from the Northern Italian Regions; but emphasizes on some Ligurian traditional dishes like Mandilli di Seta al Pesto alla Genovese and the Focaccina Calda al Formaggio di Recco.

What Insiders Are Saying
Factory Kitchen tends to gets overshadowed by its famous Arts District neighbors, but it's one of the best Italian spots in Los Angeles.
The staff is always amazing and knowledgeable. They always answer every question we have and are very friendly.
The food is amazing and I strongly recommend the handkerchief past.
We had a terrific meal, from the tasting menu. Great variety and fun choices!
Great cocktails and wine selection. Food was very tasty with perfect tomatoes and pasta and right balance of meat in pre fix. My only reserve is the pacing was NOT great. A bit rushed for three courses....plus it was quite dark setting on a sunny day. That’s just personal preference to want to see my god clearly
Enjoyed the DineLA dinner menu. Family of four tried all four starters and the roast beef and heirloom tomato salad where the best. We shared the three different pasta dishes and the smoked ricotta and mozzarella filled egg pasta was the most delicious out of the trio. The main course included roasted porchetta (2 large pieces) and pan fried grouper. We ordered desserts separately and had the panna cotta with fresh seasonal fruit and cannoli. Although both were delicious panna cotta came out on top. PanOverall dinner was delicious and will definitely come back soon.
EVERYTHING WAS JUST GREAT. CANNOT THINK OF WHAT YOU COULD DO TO MAKE IT BETTER.
Truly impressive pasta. Some of the best I’ve ever had. And a very fresh and large arugula salad that was perfectly tossed in a light dressing. Good space. But if you’re looking for quiet and intimate, this is not your place.
Had a nice meal during DineLA Week. Although the seabass was a bit overcooked, it was a nice meal with the calamari salad. A glass of wine was complimentary for lunch. Would have preferred a dessert over wine.
Great dishes to share at lunch. I’ll go back again soon
Good... Always good.
The food is always spectacular and it was yet again. That said, we didn’t realize it was DineLA and so bar service even for a 6:30 res, was extremely slow.
Also, while we were in a bit of a rush to get to a show, I had phoned and talked to the reservationist because 3 out of our party of 5 were celebrating birthdays. I specifically asked that even if we didn’t order dessert, they bring a tiramisu with 3 candles. Not even a hint of acknowledgement of that hence 4/5 stars. Bonus points for the quiet table area though, thank you!
Sincity, thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear about the missed birthday order and slower service this night, but we look forward to having the opportunity to serve you again! Thank you for being a continued guest.
Stellar food! Tinh was our server -- he's amazing. Don't be afraid to ask for wine recommendations in any price category; Andrew assisted us and was spot on.
Thank you for the great notes and dining with us! It’s wonderful to hear the positive remarks on our employees.
The lunch service was impeccable. For example, he color of the napkin was changed from white to dark to match my black pants without my asking. The servers are observant without being intrusive; we did not have to ask for anything except the check at the end of the meal.
The food was delicious and well priced for DineLA. I would return, without the special discount, to try other items on the menu.
From our host to our waiter. GREAT SERVICE. Definitely returning.
We ate off the DineLA menu. The heirloom tomatoes were not that good. And the ragu pasta heavy with too much meat in it. The pork belly was good and very rich.
The waiter was great and very attentive. And the location is fun - tucked away in an industrial section.
Great food excellent service. Noise is a bit overwhelming.
From the valet forward great service. Took sometime to get drink order in and bread bowl needed to be requested, though other tables were served almost immediately. These were the only slight issues with service. Atmosphere the night we were there was terrible, literally like being at Chucky Cheese. Many children running, actually running around restaurant, hanging over food in service area and parents were non pulsed. Bizarre night. Food....OMG AMAZING! We are definitely going back and taking child repellent
The caliber of food is not unlike what one would find at most Italian restaurants in New York, which is to say it is mostly solid. I started with the sanremese (marinated calamari salad) which was flavorful and had a good combination of textures. However, the calamari was clearly not as fresh as the other ingredients. This was followed by the gnocchi malfatti - delicious, perfect actually - the best dish of the night. Next was the pan roasted fish course with sauteed cauliflower -- tasty, but sort of one-note -- not amazing. The atmosphere is exactly what one would expect from a restaurant called "The Factory Kitchen". What stood out for me - and not in a good way - was the lack of warmth and hospitality in the service. An authentic Italian dining experience makes me feel loved, cared for, in a way that cannot be separated from the quality of the food. My server appeared to be going thru the motions, not genuinely invested or especially hospitable. Another gentleman who came to my table to provide grated cheese seemed downright sullen. I felt like I was inconveniencing them just by being there. I might give it another try (just for the food), but with some hesitation. It doesn't live up to the hype and is not an authentic Italian restaurant.
LAfun, thank you for taking the time to review your experience. We are sorry to read the perception of our team from that night; we are certainly always focused on serving our guests best! We look forward to having the opportunity to serve you again.
The Cannoli at Factory Kitchen are arguably the best in Los Angeles. And outside of Sicily perhaps tops in the USA. What a fine dining experience.
Esoteric choices, eclectic and non-traditional Italian. If you’re on the market for lasagna or bolognese, this is definitely not your place. Fine fare, beautifully prepared, timely service but way off the beaten path Italian interestingly conceived. Would I go again? No, but it was truly good.
We have gone to this restaurant a few times and the food is always excellent. The noise level however is so high that it makes it difficult to hear each other. Would love to see something done to help absorb some of the noise.
Fantastic food but the noise level is very a bit overwhelming. We enjoyed the evening with friends inspite of the noise. Great wines as well.
This place is phenomenal! Handkerchief pasta is a must as well as the prosciutto plate. Drinks are pricey so keep an eye on that but that’s the only thing I could criticize.
Food! It fuels the mitochondria. They serve vital nutrients here.
Delicious lunch! That frittata is magical. I'm coming back for more!
We had a nice time here and the food was delicious. The only negative was that on a busy Saturday night it was extremely noisy so it would be difficult having a nice conversation without elevated voices, luckily we sat in a corner so it wasn't so bad. Not sure if it's this challenging on other nights. Otherwise, the service was friendly and the food and cocktails were nice as well.
I just had brain surgery last week +7 spine surgeries in the past 18 years. I told him I couldn’t wait past the allotted time for the reservation but we waited over 45 minutes. It forced us to end dinner early. I couldn’t stay for coffee or dessert because the pain was excruciating by then. I don’t get out much and I was really looking forward to this dinner with my husband and his oldest friends. And it was ruined because of the wait. We are regulars at that restaurant and it didn’t even seem to matter. So disappointed
James, thank you for being a continued guest with us. I am very sorry to read your review, and hope to see you return. Please see my private message. Thank you
Try to reserve before hand. Do not do the high tables if you trying to be intimate. Located near bar and that’s loud and full of people waiting to be seated so they are all around you.
Great spot. The mandilli di seta was absolute knock out. For dolci we opted for pane. Great food, great ambiance, great service. A great place to really enjoy an earthquake as well.
Really nice and loved the food !
It was a great experience. Waiter knew what was on the menu and recommended delicious food.
Great Italian food. Quality ingredients in a cool atmosphere.
Great food as usual and speedy service!
We decided to try a new place on our Anniversary, on a whim checked open table, suggested for “dinner tonight”:The Factory Kitchen. Took a look at the menu/pics and knew we had to make a reservation.
The restaurant is located in what I believe is the Produce District in DTLA. To me, it felt like we were going to a hidden spot. We valet without an issue, walked to the entrance and were greeted nicely. I requested a nice table on the reservation (celebrating 21 yrs), however I feel we were seated in regular table against the window. It didn’t have an effect on the night, the interior is great. We definitely have to go back to have happy hour at the bar.
Service was great all night, every member of the staff that tended to us was great. Our main server was awesome. we had our eye on a bottle of wine, a few menu selections and he gave us more details and encouragement to confirm our choices.
Prosciutto- Amazing. The creamy cheese it’s served with is a delicious bite. We’re still talking about that cheese a week later.
Mandilli di seta - Orgazmalicious. It’s delicate and comfort in the same bite. If you love pesto, Peruvian tallarín verde, you’ll definitely love the mandilli
Guanciale - This melted in my mouth and stayed on my taste buds for days. Anyone that loves slow cooked/roasted beef (pot roast, Peruvian asado) type of dish should LOVE this dish. I believe this was in the menu for that specific day, not sure if it is a regular on the menu.
Best part of the night: Wine is 50% off on Monday for the month of July. Happy Anniversary to us!
Beignets - bananas good. I’m not one for dessert, maybe it was the Chianti reserve, but I ate that like someone was going to take it from me. If you don’t like sharing, two orders will be needed.
We loved our first experience (on a Monday night!), will definitely be returning.
Lovely spot, great food, big portions.
I love this place. I have eaten here quite a few times, and each time is delicious. We sat at the bar this time-and the bartender was great. Will be coming back for sure.
The food was amazing and the service was great! This is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in LA. I highly recommended!
We have been going to Factory Kitchen for years and have taken many different people with us. It is hard to believe how consistent and outstanding this restaurant is. The service, especially the waiters assistants, are incredibly attentive and the food is delicious.
Great restaurant and amazing food! Came here for a birthday dinner and the staff were very accommodating with recommendations. Will definitely recommend to others. Thank you!
Great food will keep going
Remember to ask for any left over food the server packed for you. They do not remind you when you pay your tab!
