The European takes the best from Old World Europe and serves them using produce from Australia and Europe. It is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A set menu is available along with the more traditional menus. The warm wooden tones of the interior set the mood for an old world meal. Come with a partner or a group of friends for dinner and enjoy selections such as the freshly shucked oysters in a red wine shallot vinegar or the Yasa caviar selection. Dine on suckling pig served with black pudding and apple or the rabbit cassoulet. The European boasts a versatile wine list that focuses on European wines that span the continent from Italy to Spain. All bottles listed on the menu are also available for sale to take home with you.
The European has several venues that it offers for private events and parties.
Food was very well presented, represented good value for money, but the real strength is the 'Wine by the Glass' offering that was interesting with an International bias from some of the world's best wine regions. Very pleasant!
Wonderful buzz in the restaurant to match the delicious food (paella with heaps of seafood, and roast duck for mains), and attentive but not intrusive service. Would highly recommend dining at The European.
From the arrival to the depature, the European met, and exceded our expectations. The service is a key ingredient of our return to this venue everytime we are in Melbournce. The food is amazing and well-priced.
The European is on Spring Street, an easy tram ride or gentle stroll from the CBD.
We have taken friends to The European.
We highly recommend The Europena.
Always excellent, food outstanding & staff friendly & helpful, from the brilliant breakfasts through to late night supper, a Melbourne must-do!
Always an absolute pleasure to go to the European, a fantastic restaurant! Thank you
All round fab restaurant: food, wine and service all first class.
My wife and I went to The European for our wedding anniversary. The service was brilliant, engaging and very attentive. The food was outstanding, from the fish starters and the shared aged steak main. Great wine suggestions. Cant recommend The European enough.
Eat here on a regular basis, great food, great waiters.
Small on the outside but huge when it comes to food quality and service.
Very intimate and dark in some sections.
Overall great value for money and the menu is not too long with a nice selection from the drinks menu
Revisited after a gap of 9 years - the menu has changed with the times but is no less enticing, with great seafood presentations and a Paella to die for (which my wife and I ordered for two). Great to see that a Chateaubriand presentation is still available - when we last visited we enjoyed a Beef Wellington and still talk about it. What a pity it is not still on the menu. We enjoyed our entrees (sharing the raw tuna with a clam topping and the zucchini flowers) followed by the superb Paella (with very generous and various seafoods) but could not fit in a dessert although the Bombe Alaska looked good enough to overindulge. We couldn't manage it. The staff were great - the lass with the Belgian/South American heritage moved us without us asking from what would have been a very noisy placement next to a large table 0f 8 people. We were glad of this and it helped make the night for us.
Great restaurant. Staff very helpful and patient. Expensive but excellent quality.
The European is one of our favourite restaurants. When we visit Melbourne from the country, we always consider the European when we dine out!
You have to go to the European once in your lifetime!
Great European food and wine and friendly service. Well located next to Princess Theatre and easy access in Melbourne CBD.
Delightful way to spend a pre Theatre luncheon. Lovely atmosphere.
Could be somewhere in Italy
Always such a delightful evening out. Great food, staff and delicious wines.
The bernaise was amazing!!! Absolute highlight.
Always love to visit the European for reliably delicious food and excellent wine list. Service is attentive without ever being intrusive. The team are always efficient and friendly. My go to restaurant especially for work lunches.
Exceptional food and service. I always love coming to this restaurant. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend this place if you love great European food and wine! 10/10 :-)
European is consistently great.
Stunning flavours, beautiful (yet unfussy) presentation in a lovely, warm ambience.
So torn here. The service here is just outstanding! Brilliant and incredibly friendly staff. Great meals too!! But there are plenty of other options that offer better value for the same quality...
Excellent food ,good service and pleasant waiters to have a chart with...Enjoyable ,bur expensive ,esp on a Sunday night with surcharge...
Great food, great ambience
Fantastic little restaurant. Took me back to when I was in Italy. Great food and better atmosphere. Staff very friendly.
We ordered entrees and a main to share. Bought the main put on 2 plates such was great! One entree we ordered the size for 2 but it was recommended we just get the serving size for 1 - glad they suggested that as the serving size was large!
Went back for dessert after the show and the staff remembered us which was a nice touch.
Very good service and food only let down by bread which should have been better. A nice sourdough or ciabatta would have been preferable to what was served up. However, this did not detract from our enjoyment of very good food and winelist and will certainly be returning.
Excellent food and service. Noise level an issue for reasonable discussion.
I went with my wife and parents to celebrate my birthday. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was really very good, wonderful use of fresh herbs. The service was friendly and sincere and the atmosphere casual and comfortable. A lovely evening.
Delicious food and friendly service. Definitely will come back. What a lovely place to dine out
Love the food. Amazing flavours. Knowledgeable staff.
Unfortunate about the obnoxious table next to us that forced 2 other tables to relocate.
This place never fails! Consistently interesting food very well prepared with extremely professional serving staff. We visit every time we come to Melbourne. Great wine list too
Great service and rustic filling food from France, Italy and England. Two courses was plenty and the wine list was comprehensive, delicious but a touch expensive.
Fantastic food. Very attentive service. Knowledgeable staff. Food very quick. Great option for dinner before Harry Potter
Lovely wine and wait staff. Gnocchi ok. Not earth shattering. Great ambiance. Walk to the toilets was grubby and very off putting.
More like a wine bar with food rather than a restaurant
It was too loud for our enjoyment 😔
Great for small groups - say 4. A very intimate space
The restaurant has a nice flair although it might become at moments quiet noisy. The meals are ok, nothing terribly special to it. That the waitress didn't know what a Martini is... well I could overlook it, but making fun out of my request to close the restaurants door because my mother in law was feeling cold. That's definitely a no go. The European is, for an European I actually am, not european friendly enough. Sorry mate.
The food is always enjoyable but quite pricey, however reliable for a special occasion, the service is always excellent and the restaurant has a great atmosphere, I always enjoy my experience there and wish to thank the staff
Even though the food was delicious, the 30% surcharge for a Sunday night meal was not impressive as we ended up paying $60 just for the privilege of it being a Sunday night! Kind of put a dampener on our night.
As usual brilliant food and service. I had the Paella with seafood and chorizo. Great dish lots of fresh seafood The rice was cooked perfectly just enough sticking to the pan and the chorizo was authentic and spicy.
Topped off with a great bottle of Chianti Classico what else could you want. Oh and the service spot on.
