The Espy Kitchen
grill, a ‘Crustacea’ bar seafood display, meat rotisserie, pizza station and pastry section.
The overarching design is a casual and relaxed dining and drinking space, high on quality produce and ingredients. The Espy Kitchen will provide a fully immersive ‘food theatre’ element that will be raw and real, bringing with it all the sounds, sights and smells of food being cooked live!
We ate the large seafood platter in the Espy kitchen. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, the prawns were limp and had obviously been frozen, there were a lot of mussels , some sushi and oysters and that was about it. The polenta chips are delicious. Excellent service from a lovely waitress and all friendly staff. The place has been renovated to an amazing standard with different styles of eating and several bars.
Great venue .have been telling everyone about it. Renos are amazing. Will be back
Great spot for a beer and an old school Parma... highly recommend
Overall we were disappointed with the food as 4 out of 5 of us had fish and chips with all commenting there was more batter than fish. Decor fantastic.
our lunch at The Espy Kitchen was not all I was hoping for, however would still recommend to others. The service was great & all team members very helpful. We were quite squashed in & the noise level was out of control - we could barely hear the 4 of us speaking to each other. The seafood platter was delicious & couldn't fault (although small for 2), but the butternut pumpkin was awful - pumpkin had no taste & was completely waterlogged. I am hoping for a better experience the next time, as I will try again
Food was ok, not a fan of the calamari dish. We were early but the chips were overcooked. Service was good.
I prefer the atmosphere in the front bar. Kitchen restaurant was over priced with tiny portions and coffee was terrible
Amazing service, delish and tasty food. Lots to choose from, definitely would recommend and will be back!!
Service from our waitress was awesome but the venu was very hot and extremely loud. Music too loud for conversation and whilst having the open kitchen to watch was great it was very warm & noisy.
Steaks were perfectly cooked but no accompanying veg or side and the ones we purchased were small and not that great. Felt they were overdoing the sides with their attempts to give something different and they fell short as none of us enjoyed the “greens” or tomatoes. Wine was also bordering on expensive for what was on offer.
great atmosphere, fun staff . . good food . . .good to catch up with mates or go with the family !!!!
The day was very busy incredibly loud, and so many people due to the pride march.
We felt the Esby kitchen area had very loud music, hard to hold a convesation. You don't need loud music when you're eating.
The staff were great, friendly, efficient, and couldn't do enough for us.
My nephew did the electrical work on the building and had worked there for 12 months
We are very proud of him. It looks amazing.
What a huge vision you all had. It's a credit to the boys.
We are a Somers family, so will definitely be back to enjoy this unique experience. Congratulations.
TABLE NOT READY. 15 MIN WAIT
We were blown away with the decor food and service from all staff led by the Manager Tom who went above and beyond to ensure we were all completely satisfied. Will definitely return
Amazing refurb, faultless and unforced service. Will be back for that burger again!
I expected a salad with the fish and chips. The pizza was good and affordable.
We had a lovely meal at the Espy Kitchen with great service. Everyone was extremely obliging and the renovations are wonderful.
Fantastic decor, atmosphere, staff, service & food. We loved it and will return
Terrific restaurant and great atmosphere. The pizza's are a highlight and well priced. The bug snack is small and overpriced and the prawns were a nice main but expensive for what there were.
The waitress was ok but seemed to often forget we were there or just clear a couple of plates leaving everything else on the table for extended periods. We kept having to wave her over for drinks etc. which became annoying.
That said overall a great restaurant in an amazing venue. Worth a visit
Was really impressed with the revamp of the espy. It’s been tastefully done with a modern feel but still keeping the original gritty feel.
So many different levels with different restaurants and bars. There’s something for everyone.
Food was awesome, vibe was awesome, it’s a must visit if you’re in St Kilda
The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was excellent.
Toilets were disgusting!!! Bar area was so crowded when we left the resturant to walk out our it was difficult. You allow to many people my husband and I had beer spilt all over us. Broken glass on the floor
I wasn’t impressed that I wasn’t allowed to swap the slaw for a simple side garden salad on my steak . I was told I could order a side salad on top of the steak (at $16) so I chose the summer green salad and a chicken skewer. My friends porthouse was full of fat so thankgod I didn’t get the steak in the end . The pizza had way too much chilli my friends were sweating . Way too many staff on standing around in the espy kitchen but I guess that’s hard to determine being Australia Day however not enough staff on in the bars .
Wine by the glass selection was average and wines in general severely over priced!
It was ok experience and I do appreciate being allowed to stay past our 5.30pm curfew so thank you for that .
Good service, good range of choices on the menu. Food was well presented, good quality, delicious and very reasonably priced.
Great food and atmosphere. The staff we’re lovely, attentive and so patient.
Such a great atmosphere. Service was attentive and quick. Our waiter suggested we have a drink afterwards and organised a table upstairs. Will definitely be back!
Other than the pizzas (which were good), all other meals were very ordinary and well below expectations. The parma, and fish and chips were most disappointing. Did not enjoy being constantly reminded that we had to vacate the table by 8pm. Hardly relaxing.
Loved the new Espy, food, atmosphere, excellent waiting staff. The music was too loud and made it hard to have an enjoyable conversation. Plus the air conditioner was too strong and blowing freezing cold air over our table.
Good food, excellent service, friendly and efficient staff, good atmosphere.
Terrible cocktail but staff very helpful when given feedback.
Wine we ordered was not available. Next available was very expensive. Venue far too noisy for girls luncheon, had to yell over the very loud music. Wouldn't go again.
Great food, but the small seafood platter was a little too small.. good service and ambiance
Brilliant pizzas, and the salads and starters were all delicious too. We shared a lot of dishes between 6 of us, had some drinks and it still only came to $45 each. Service was quick and friendly.
Fun atmosphere but very noisy so hard to hear each other!
Awesome food, very busy atmosphere. Would highly recommend the meatballs and the polenta fries! And of course the frozen gin and tonics
Great food and excellent service. Big open dining area, with great exposed roof. Full view of kitchen from most seats. Great menu with a good variety. Good for people looking for a few more seafood options.
Amazing changes at The Espy, very pleased with the meal and service.
Earlier lunch recommended as venue filled up and became very noisy. Food was good and service was very attentive.
We could only get a booking at 9:45pm which was ok, but they didn’t tell us the kitchen closed at 10pm apart from pizzas. That was disappointing as we would have ordered earlier if we had known! The pizzas were tasty. It was very noisy because of the front bar area.
We came after 9:30pm and only the pizza menu was on offer.. however we were handed a menu with other yummy items we wanted to order only to find out later that pizzas were the only option.
Great service. Staff were very engaged. Burger was delicious. Love the new Espy!
Noisy and crowded on a Friday night - to be expected I know - but they coped well (special credit to the waitress who looked after an adjacent table with 15 people who then wanted to split the bill; she showed immense and very honourable patience in the 10-15 mins it took to sort out the payments; I would have told them "not possible"!). Food was good, if small servings, but for the price was Ok and was very enjoyable. We both had classics - a burger and the fish n chips. Only suggestion is to make the coleslaw a little more tasty - it was a bit bland. Looking forward to trying out Mya Tiger now.
Lovely fresh and tasty food with a great atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Will definitely be back.
