Food was surprisingly good. I will definitely be back
Only negative was that we were advised buty wait staff that we needed to be finished by 1:45 for a 12pm booking (apparently this was in the fine print!) A little rushed for my liking...
Awesome refurb whilst not taking away from the history of this beautiful building.
Food and service is excellent. Set to become a Melbourne favourite and icon all over again.
We had a fabulous time we will definitely return thanks for a great night
We had a lovely evening, great staff and fun vibe.
Was great fun! Beautiful lunch, the service was amazing!
Great place great food great service and a fabulous location!!
My friend and I had the swordfish and it was extremely bland and we basically couldn't eat it. This is a bit of nitpicking but serving dishes like this in a bowl instead of a plate which made it difficult to eat - they sat you 'eat with your eyes' and visually it looked as bad it tasted. My other girlfriend said the pizza was okay and I tried the wagyu beef which I thought was quite nice although again it was served in a bowl.
I thought the service was good but overall I don't think you get value for money, I would probably try it again and order something different and see if my opinion differs.
I’m not a foodie at all and i enjoy most food even if it does lack in some departments. So for me to have comments about food is saying something. The starters we all had were all good. However ALL of our mains were underwhelming. There was hardly any flavoring to the coleslaw. It was literally just shredded cabbage and mayonnaise. The burgers were not that good either. McDonald’s burgers had more flavour to them. The cucumber that accompanied the swordfish was also bland. Pizza was good but how do you mess up pizza? I think you guys should really sit down with the chef and revise the main dish recipes. They need a lot of work.
Fabulous meal, fabulous service. We celebrated my wife’s 60th here and the staff went out of their way to make it a throughly enjoyable and memorable day.
Great food! Highly recommend sharing plates. Great Atmosphere
I have been waiting for the popularity to die down however it seems to be growing. The 20 something hormone fuelled crowd is hard to get through to get to the Kitchen can be quite hard to penetrate depending on the time you have booked. However the staff are fantastic, the service is fantastic and the food was tasty.
Pleasant evening. One point though, the only booking available was for 9.30pm. No problem for us however we take our seat at 9.40 and the first point the waiter makes is that our order must be in before 10pm. We rush into the order, get through our meal and ask for the dessert menu and the next waiter says we have 5 minutes to decide on dessert! If the 9.30pm sitting is not treated like a 7pm sitting then don't offer it and wind back your last sitting or at least please advise on your website that the 9.30 sitting comes with conditions a plenty.
Still a few wrinkles to iron out in terms of service and timing of food delivery (fish was cold etc.) but the old girl scrubbed up ok
The 'new' Espy is fantastic. It has retained its original grunge and vibe, while being suitably glam. Food was great, as was the service
We had a great night. The Oysters, the Wagu Steak and the Heathcote Shiraz, were all perfect. After dinner we went upstairs for a couple of Cocktails. It's very relaxing up there with tons of history. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
We had a great night at the The Espy. Staff were wonderful and all happy to let us have a look around at the different spaces. The reno is terrific and has a great ambience.
Hi I am a regular at the espy and originally enquired about a booking to celebrate my birthday on Sunday 3 march.
We arrived and because we changed table configuration to more than 9 the manager and staff were very accommodating to manage this for me without having to do a set menu.
The food on arrival - the meatballs and green salad were terrible and there seemed to be a slow process in getting pizzas. When they eventually arrived they were good.
Also I advised staff that I had a group of another 10 joining or more coming for drinks at 3.30pm. At times I found the bar staff in main bar area to be a tad arrogant and too cool for school.
We also the issue of more pizzas and chips being ordered which took an hour and half.
Anyway love the espy and what it is now but just positive feedback from a loyal espy local, as we live in middle park.
A beautiful building with rich history, however, for us we left very disappointed. We started in the Espy Kitchen which was so noisy we could not hear each other speaking. We ordered the seafood platter & a grain salad. We didn’t receive our salad & when we let the server know, she said it would be out to us straight away, it never arrived. We thought we would try Mya Tiger upstairs where we sat in a booth. The table was very sticky & when we asked for a cloth to clean it, a barman walked over and threw a napkin on the table.
Overall a letdown, however, I’m sure it will do very well.
Noise levels were very good considering number of people (it was full)
Food really really good
Minor quibble- no utensils provided with share plates however staff very quick to provide some when asked
Service great, food very good and reasonably priced, ambience very good too. Wine mark ups seemed excessive. will definitely be back
The renovation is great. The food and service were really good. The noise level is a it high.
Great food and value for money.
The whole experience was enjoyable. The food came out quickly and was delicious! The service was outstanding! Special mention goes to Saffron who was delightful, friendly and helpful:)
From the time we sat down the waiter made us feel like they wanted us out. Tried to take a food order within 10 seconds of sitting down. Tried to take unfinished food away. Not a great experience.
Espy they have done a great job on the interior unfortunately the Espy kitchen is a shadow of its former self now it’s just get them in feed em below average pub food at a high cost and ship em out o well we will elsewhere and go there for a drink later.
Over an hour wait for food (I think they forgot my order) plus the 3 of us that ate there were all ill following dinner
As far as last question, yes I would recommend the Espy Kitchen and have already done so. Thank you for an enjoyable experience.
You go to the Espy for the atmosphere, and it’s there in spades. Great spaces, views to sea, and lots of history. The Espy Kitchen has a great feel and the service is friendly and prompt. The food was a disappointment overall. Over cooked calamari, soggy pumpkin salad, barely warm chips. The slow cooked wagu was the standout dish, warm and melting, lots of love for that. Think I’ll come back for a drink, but give the food a miss.
I think that the Espy should offer something better than pub food in the Kitchen. Just my opinion!
Booked a table for 6 friends and I for dinner on Saturday night. Polenta chips were great but pizza was average, slightly soggy. Restaurant was noisy, couldn’t have a decent conversation. Would I go back, probably not. Better restaurants and bars in Melbourne.
Love open kitchen area, creates great atmosphere, waitstaff very friendly & fun. Food simple & delicious.
Had a fantastic time!!! Food was great!!! Would definitely return for another great night))).
Overall the Espy Kitchen was a great dining experience, the food was very good, however with exception of the seafood platter which for what is was, was a bit underwhelming, more like a tasting plate and really should have had some quality Tiger prawns rather than prawns that resembled shrimps. Other than that the service was great, we love what they have done to the Espy Architecturally which still maintains the Espy vibe.
We ate the large seafood platter in the Espy kitchen. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, the prawns were limp and had obviously been frozen, there were a lot of mussels , some sushi and oysters and that was about it. The polenta chips are delicious. Excellent service from a lovely waitress and all friendly staff. The place has been renovated to an amazing standard with different styles of eating and several bars.
Great venue .have been telling everyone about it. Renos are amazing. Will be back
Great spot for a beer and an old school Parma... highly recommend
Overall we were disappointed with the food as 4 out of 5 of us had fish and chips with all commenting there was more batter than fish. Decor fantastic.
our lunch at The Espy Kitchen was not all I was hoping for, however would still recommend to others. The service was great & all team members very helpful. We were quite squashed in & the noise level was out of control - we could barely hear the 4 of us speaking to each other. The seafood platter was delicious & couldn't fault (although small for 2), but the butternut pumpkin was awful - pumpkin had no taste & was completely waterlogged. I am hoping for a better experience the next time, as I will try again
Food was ok, not a fan of the calamari dish. We were early but the chips were overcooked. Service was good.
