Perfect birthday celebration everything was spot on .... the food was amazing I had the fish special and the sauce was delicious 😋 our waiter was very attentive and helpful and the atmosphere was lovely. A wonderful night we will be back soon to try the rest of the menu !!
A busy pub with lots of customers and slightly cramped, but more than made up for with the excellent food and full table service for food and drinks. Staff are lovely and very helpful.
We went to the Duke and had their Sunday roast menu, which was great food, and terrific value. Two of us were non-meat eaters, and had the fish stew which was excellent, and one of us massively enjoyed roast belly pork with the traditional accompaniments (and a wonderful, but actually unnecessary side of cauliflower cheese). Highly recommended. Also, it is a dog-friendly establishment.
Friendly staff and very welcoming. We had a baby and a dog with us, they staff were very accommodating!
Great family friendly pub serving outstanding food and craft beers
Took a friend from LA to dinner at The Duke. We were both really pleased with the service and the meal. I have been to The Duke for Sunday lunch previously and the food is always top class. Highly recommended!
We aren’t local but would most definitely make the journey back. Food was exceptional and staff accommodating and super friendly.
There was a lot missing off the menu. Food that was available was lovely.
Good overall, sometimes the tables were forgotten service and some tables were better situated than others. Mixture of experience.
Friendly local with relaxed atmosphere. Strong community feel.
The food is lovely and very good quality. The decor is lovely, relaxed atmosphere. The service received was not the standard I would expect:
• salt cellar on the table was empty
• we ordered bottle of red wine and it came unopened and was just put on the table- left to us to pour.
• I’ve cream scoop ordered for dessert which looked like it was placed under the hot grill as it was ‘floating’ in the bowl. It was replaced immediately when we spoke to the waitress but this should never have been delivered to the table.
Very disappointed local resident. The food is the highlight but staff need to improve customer service.
They were really helpful and service was good. The food came out quickly and was good and they were very good with my 6 month old son
We have eaten at The Duke many times and have always been pleased. However on this occasion we were very disappointed. It was early Sunday evening and they had been very busy at lunchtime. My wife ordered the fish stew which she had had before and I ordered the nut roast. My wife was very disappointed with the fish stew as it was nothing like before as it was all mussels and hardly any fish. They had run out of nut roasts so I had to have Halloumi with polenta which was a bit strange. We also had to send back a glass of white wine as it had no taste whatsoever. The staff did try their best to correct the problems and were apologetic but the evening was spoiled. On top of that my wife was ill the next day and did not feel right for a few days after that. I don’t think we will be returning any time soon.
Amazing Sunday roast at the Duke - a really brilliant, friendly pub in Wanstead!
Yummy roast dinner and great, attentive service! I'd definitely go back!
Good brunch with a nice atmosphere and very baby friendly
Came for a Sunday lunch, the food was amazing. There were three of us and we each had a difference meal (roast pork, roast beef, Cod Supreme). Shared the crumble and sticky date pudding which were delicious. Staff were really friendly, it was very busy but you were still able to hear each other. Thought it was reasonably priced as food was great. Will definitely be returning!
Service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Highly recommend.
A great midweek lunch at The Duke with friends. Food was very good!
We're not even vegetarian but absolutely loved Tuesday veggie tapas night!
our fave pub!
Had the special on the menu tonight, it was absolutely amazing, extremely tasty, well done Chef, thank you.
Another lovely evening at The Duke. Absolutely fantastic service and very good food. Love that our kids and our puppy are accommodated
It took half an hour to get a steak sandwich and a cold salad. The cold salad was wrong and not as advertised. The hot sweet was also not as advertised, but that was offered as an apology so not so important.
I had to go back to the bar after 20 minutes to get the drink I had ordered. The staff did seem more interested in preparing for the next day.
I love the look of The Duke, the interior sets it apart from other venues in Wanstead and I have generally enjoyed going there. Some years back we had our daughters christening lunch for 30, which was catered for very well.
Great Sunday lunch and the service was personal and attentive. Would highly recommend
We were four of us for a dinner at the Duke and we were all excited. I and my fiancé moved to the area and we thought this will be our weekend local pub.
The food was inedible. I ordered lamb rump and it was very poor-quality meat. I ordered apple and rhubarb crumble for dessert. It was super sharp and soggy (no crumble ☹)
The bill surprised us all. We couldn’t believe the charges on the alcohol and cheap quality food.
The bill was as high, as a good restaurant in the West End.
We will never visit the pub again.
Great roast selection, brilliant to visit a pub and have table service. This has changed since the last time I visited. Service was great and quick. Yorkshire puddings were really tasty!
We both had Sunday roasts which were lovely! The roast beef was succulent and my free range chicken was beautiful. The desserts, however, were disappointing. My partner had sticky toffee/date pudding which was very bland and I had the elderflower mousse which was pretty much the same.
Great pub, great staff, great atmosphere and great food.
This was a return visit for me, but first for my friends. They will definitely return with more friends
Lovely lunch on the outdoor terrace with lovely Japanese theme. Beautiful.
Service was great. Toilets were clean. Definitely recommend!
Food lovely, service great, my favourite local pub
Delicious food, lovely ambience and even better as local
We always enjoy going to the Duke. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars for the food was because they'd run out of cauliflower cheese!
Great service, food and vibe.
WIll definitely be revisiting.
Great roast, great atmosphere and very helpful staff
As usual the food was very good, their meat is excellent. However the service was slow, there seemed to be rather long delays waiting to order. & between finishing a course & the next one arriving. It may have been busy in the main restaurant area but as we were sitting in the bar area it was impossible to see.
Nice atmosphere and lovely staff however, they only had on vegetarian main (veggie burger) which they were out of when we went. We asked if we can have something off the brunch menu instead as there were several egg dishes and we’re told it’s only from 11-4pm (we ordered at 4:30). We understood that there is a timeframe for brunch but given that they had no other veggie mains we thought it would be nice to try and accommodate us. Overall it could have been a better experience.
Great Sunday roast at the Duke - food was cooked beautifully & tasted amazing! Staff were a bit slow at clearing our table etc but otherwise they were lovely. My brother had potatoes missing from his plate & we had to ask twice for sauces but we were given a bowl of potatoes & lots of sauce to make up for it. Would definitely go again!
Very nice food, great service, but very pricey for a pub.
The Duke is perfect if you want to enjoy a proper Sunday roast. We enjoyed great wine and a buzzy atmosphere. Will definitely come again
Sunday lunch at the Duke is great! Buzzy family atmosphere, pub was full with diners. Food was lovely, good size roast, with every choice of meat. Interesting choice of starters and desserts. Staff were attentive and helpful. Had a nice Bloody Mary to start the meal too. Worth a trip!
