The waiter was brilliant. Very attentive and switched on.
Great food however the wait staff were rather rude
We had a lovely lunch for my Mums birthday. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The wine list was surprisingly extensive. The outside afternoon dining was magic and the food was delicious. We all had different meals and they all were delicious. Definitely be back again.
Disappointed, we have eaten at the Stirling previously and always had a good experience. Our last visit was far from that, very average quality of food and menu. Food was cold when it was served, some fillet steak was full of fat, and the port loin dish was way over cooked!
Not great and a bit disappointing based on prior visits. They did take the food off the bill however, which was a nice gesture.
Nice menu. Good food. Decent serving size. Perhaps service was a little rushed for my liking.
Couldn't find our reservation, told to go to one area and then got taken back to where we started. Not the best or the worst, but won't be returning anytime soon.
Staff were brilliant; nice balance of service without being "over the top". Food was really good. The Stirling Hotel has been really well renovated and is a charming old pub in a picturesque leafy Adelaide Hills township that was buzzing with Sunday afternoon markets amidst a beautiful misty fog - reminded me of being in England. Which for the start of summer (December) was a rare thing. And something else, the wine list is very extensive starting from good value budget wines (no such thing as a bad red in South Australia) ranging to hideously expensive. I chose something mid-range a Barossa Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz - which did the trick nicely with my steak. Blasted off with a couple of pints of Coopers Pale followed by the Red for the boost phase. Finished with a scotch that kept me in orbit (I made that last bit up). Wasn't driving.
Great food and service but too noisy on a Saturday night. The acoustics are not good. You could not hear your dining companions talk. We almost had to shout to be heard. Better to go during the week as it is quieter.
Very noisy. Great service and food. Good choice of beverages. Just a little much noise for conversations
We used to love the ambiance of dining room but on our recent visit it was much noisier than we recall however still a lovely place to be. The food was good especially the starters. My pork for main course was dry however I accept this may be due to the way it was cooked on the Josper. My husband's lamb was delicious. Our real concern was the wine list which is extensive but we chose 3 wines all of which they did not have therefore in the end we accepted a more recent vintage of our third choice. My suggestion is to perhaps have a smaller list but be able to supply all that is on it. As we were having difficulty finding a wine it took a long time for us to get served as the person serving us during this time changed giving us the impression it was just too hard.
An enjoyable evening catching up with a friend. Food was excellent, outstanding service (as always) from the beautiful Lily.
Extensive menu, really nice meal - good steak, tasty accompaniments. Good wine list. Good service from very pleasant and helpful staff. Perfect for pre-theatre dinner. Pretty location, lovely décor.
The Stirling is usually always a reliable venue for a family occasion as this was. The food is good, not great but better than your average pub.
We were five adults and two kids and all enjoyed their meals. There were a couple of hiccups with service, forgetting drinks and children’s desserts but on the whole the service is professional and friendly.
We would return.
I absolutely loved my meal here in the dining room on Sat night, the yellow snapper curry with the alaskan popsicle for dessert it was faultless from start to finish , 10 out of 10 for service too, the young blond girl that served us was lovely. I cant wait to come back.
Excellent table service, delicious food and the staff really looked after us, would definitely recommend.
Overall very good. The menu throughout the Hotel is the same whether sitting at the Bar,Verandah or in the Dining room and having dined in all three locations some variety would be a good idea.
The location and layout of the Hotel is excellent and a highly recommended.
Menu not as good as previous
Staff need restaurant level training
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner experience. The Dining Room offers a variety of food options that use quality ingredients. The environment is calm and conversation is easy. The staff are approachable and knowledgeable. We chose to share our meals as we wanted the chance to sample multiple dishes. Definitely going back as there's more on the menu I want to try.
Great meal and service!
Always a pleasant atmosphere
Very enjoyable and we recommend this venue
Great service and atmosphere. Food was overall of a very good quality, with some choices better than others.
We’ve dined in the dining room several times and like to bring our friends or have a special occasion meal because we really enjoy the menu and ambience.
We were disappointed to now see since the kitchen upgrade it is the exact same menu as the rest of the pub. We’re a bit confused what the point of difference is now.
The main courses came out only a few minutes after our entrees (there were 6 of us) which meant we had a table of food going cold before we could finish our starters.
We did give the feedback to the waitress and she advised the kithen was really busy.
Unfortunately the salt and pepper squid was cold and our dessert, the crumble was barely warm.
The staff were friendly and offered complimentary tea and coffee but the reality is we will no longer visit the dining room for a meal
My mum also noticed behind the bar, one of the staff was pouring two different wines into the same bottle...I hope this was for cooking and not to re-serve
We also happened to dine in the bar on Friday night and after paying and ordering a salad with a side of chicken we were then told the kitchen was not doing chicken that night which seemed a bit ridiculous that chicken breast was not available?
Once again, the staff were polite and apologetic and gave us a refund but a bit annoying.
And please bring back the old chips, the new ones look great but they are not as crispy or tasty as the old ones
I hope you take this feedback on board, we are regulars at your pub, we dine there almost weekly because we love the location.
Great main courses, good wine and beer list and helpful staff. Only suggestion was be more decadent with garlic and butter on the garlic bread!
I was lucky enough to receive a gift voucher from my colleagues. Took me ages to find a night that worked for shift worker husband and full time worker, me. But well worth the wait. We are now planning our next booking with friends.
We had a very enjoyable lunch for 8 at the Stirling Hotel. The service was very good, the waiting staff were friendly, attentive and patient. Easy access and finding space for 2 walkers in the party was not a problem. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. I would recommend it for a special occasion.
Refurb has ruined the restaurant's atmosphere: it's now so open that its almost as noisy as the bistro. The high sided plates are bad: cutlery won't sit on the edge and keeps falling into the food. Other clients seemed to have the same problem. Food was good. Service was outstanding. Not our choice for a long dinner talking and enjoying bottles of wine. More like a quick in and out.
It was very cold when we arrived, right after six and it warmed up towards the end of our dinner. It was also very loud throughout the entire dinner.
Menu with limited vegetarian options, but the salad was good.
I didn't like the tea (green, in tea bag) nor the quince brulee dessert.
I was led to believe there was a degustation menu available, not so, one menu for alll eating areas, the dining room only offered table service, nothing special.
The steak I ordered was not cooked as I had requested
For what was a special occasion, it was very disappointing.
Great selection of food and wine. Handcrafted beers. Great ambience. Friendly staff. Couldn't fault it.
Great lunch week days with wonderful service and quiet environment for talking
Service was superb, chef helped out beautifully with special dietary requirements for a garlic allergic person, would and already have recommended the Sterling hotel.
Mothers day lunch with the five course menu was very good. Great food and good service. It was especially good to see white table cloths back, giving the restaurant the fine dining appearance that it has lost in recent years.
Stayed in one of the 5 rooms which we found spacious and beautifully renovated. The Grill restaurant was inviting we had a shared menu between 4 people which was absolutely delicious and highly recommend, wonderful noligable staff.
Finished with a great breakfast on the outside deck surrounded by all the beautiful autumn trees.
5 star in the hills! Loved it
We’ve had dinner at this restaurant many times before. However last experience was. It was very noisy, the area where we were seated was used as a walk-through for staff to serve other people.
Very enjoyable in a great setting. Food was great and the wine list was good quality at reasonable prices.
Probably the best 5 course meal we have had. Brilliant dishes. We were still raving about it days after.
Perfect atmosphere, service was excellent and priced accordingly no to bad a price
One of the most delicious perfectly cooked steaks Ive had in a long time. Good service. Looking forward to going back soon
The Grill is always a great place to dine and never disappoints. The food is always excellent and the service always great. The service this time was above outstanding and our attendant was able to answer our questions and make excellent recommendations without having to run away and seek advice.
We were ignored on entering - the two people behind the barn were busy doing paperwork????
The maitre d' was pleasant, knowledgeable but very poorly dressed.
The main course came out before the accompaniment.
My main course dish plate was only just slightly warm and my food, and my wife's food, (both Duck), was not hot - in fact quite cold!
Having been in the restaurant industry for around 55 years my observation is that the wait staff are not connected with the kitchen and are not trained.
The wait staff made no attempt to engage us except for the banal "... was everything OK?.." and then "... no worries..."
There were only two other people in the restaurant!!!!
May I respectfully suggest some training is needed.
Not a memorable experience!
Excellent meals, great atmosphere, excellent service and value for money.
