The Dalkey Duck
Small menu but enough variety. Crab starter was amazing. Mains (venison and steak) were nice enough. Place is cosy. Staff were all brilliant and super friendly.
Emily our server was excellent .she was most helpful and attentive.
The food was excellent.
Will definetly go again
Had a very nice meal on Friday night last, shared the starter prawns which were yummy maybe a bitmore bread need to soak up the delicious sauce! Hubby had fish and chips which he really enjoyed and i had the cottage pie (duck style) meaning like a stew very tasty served with a cheese topped mash potatoe, real comfort food.
We had a bit of craic with the staff who were real friendly and looking forward to going up there again.Do book because it gets really busy which is a great sign!!
Food was really delicious. Service was good considering how busy the pub is. It gets noisy once any band comes on so eat earlier if you want a quieter meal. Overall really impressed. Will be back
Great food, great service, great garden. Altogether a lovely evening.
Food was really genuinely very good and the staff were very friendly
Not enough staff around to provide good table service. Got forgotten about a few times which was disappointing.
Brilliant. Great food, nice service and delicious food. Great value for money.
Seated us quickly. Made me a dish that had been on the menu previously even though it wasn't there that evening. The lamb burger is delicious, their mac n cheese (the special dish) is by far the best I've found in Dublin so far. The desserts were good. Definitely fair prices. Highly recommended.
Had just arrived in Ireland. Pub atmosphere. Food served quickly and beer cold.
Really lovely lunch - the lamb burger and fish and chips were excellent!
Fantastic food and great atmosphere. The service was exceptional from the minute we walked in the door. Will definitely be back.
The whole experience was absolutely fabulous, my parents were up from Limerick and were beyond impressed, the food was brilliant as usual. Emily our server was a dream, cannot recommend it enough!
Our lunch was very good albeit a little too salty, two of us had chowder and chips (could've eaten more though) and the third person had the open chicken sandwich with cup of soup & chips which looked delicious (good value). The staff were all very friendly and efficient. I would go back, maybe try the dinner menu next time.
We booked for an early evening meal, and selected from the “early bird” menu. The wine was half price! The quality of the food was excellent, really tasty. Service was excellent. A really enjoyable evening.
Excellent gastro Pub with great menu & food delivered by friendly & efficient staff.
Sadly we were quite disappointed with our first meal in the Dalkey Duck, which coincidently will be our last meal. Despite an attractive looking menu and a very nice feel to the dining area the experience was disappointing on all levels.
The incredibly enthusiastic waiter, who was very pleasant, clearly doesn’t have very much experience managing a restaurant. There was a prolonged delay in ordering our meal and a further delay in receiving our starters. We got no bread despite one of our group not ordering a starter and even items that were on the menu such as stout bread which should have accompanied the oyster starter didn’t appear. My sirloin steak, ordered medium, arrived rare and it took 15 minutes to receive the same piece of meat back slightly better cooked but very very tough. Despite the delay it was not accompanied by any fresh vegetables and I had to ask for more pepper sauce just to make it palatable. Luckily we managed to escape just as the incredibly loud live band started playing, however they did manage to interrupt most of our meal while setting up.
I would really like to hear some new opinions contrary to mine, I know Lucinda O’Sullivan gave it a glorious write up but she must have gotten them on a very good night.
Really enjoyed our night out in Dalkey Duck, great value and service. Great local casual restaurant. Lovely cosy atmosphere for a winters night We would definitely go again for value and food and service.
Well done, keep it up!!
Great meal. Very well presented Fish and chips.. great batter and excellent fish
Great night..food & band brilliant...really enjoyed our night & will definitely go back again
Great food, great service and brilliant atmosphere
Saoirse is outstanding, such a lovely manner. The food is much better than average pub food. The cook is very good. Good ambience too.
I initially booked a table for 4 for a Saturday afternoon lunch. Then as more friends wanted to come, I increased to 6 online and then 9 people by phone the night before. They kindly accommodated us indoors at a corner table that was a bit tight. We ordered open sandwiches that came with nice skinny fries and a small copper pot of onion soup on the side. The sandwiches and fries were very tasty, the soup was OK. We ordered several rounds of drinks and were able to stay and chat for the afternoon. They asked if we could vacate our table an hour in advance (booked my another group) and we were OK with that, however one issue disappointed us: they never gave us an opportunity to order dessert. Before I knew it they had brought out the bill and were looking for payment and I realised it was too late to ask. Great back garden area with tables available for a dry, warm and sunny days.
Theo the manager is excellent, he booked a lovely table for dinner for four of us last Saturday 4th August 2018
The food ,wine and service were all excellent and very good value
Thanks to Theo and all his lovely staff we had a great evening and will return and recommend
Paul & Mary
Enjoyed the meal. There was nobody to meet us when we arrived. We had an advance reservation, but that didn't seem to mean anything. The restaurant was very busy, but our waitress explained this when we were seated. The food came faster than we thought. The menu did not offer enough selection options.
Great ambiance with live music. Staff very attentive at first but once the live music came on it got very busy in the bar and our dessert was forgotten about. They were good about it though.
On arrival we waited for 10 minutes at the bar trying to get the attention of the not to busy bar and lounge staff to let them know we arrived and tell us where our table was. Once seated it took 15 minutes for us to get menus and drinks. Once we ordered food the service greatly improved. However, once our meal was finished we failed to attract the attention of any staff member to order more drinks. We left at 10.30pm. We were seated in a really nice nook near the rear of the bar, the only issue being it was very cold. We put our coats back on!
The menu is very limited, especially if you have a seafood allergy or are a vegetarian.
My hubbies fish and chips was nice but very small serving. My Dick and hoard cheese salad had no goats cheese. I asked and it was taken back and the returned smothered in so much goats cheese it was inedible. Poor meal overall
Didn't get sides for our meals, tried to get desserts and told kitchen closed. From the minute we arrived we were told over and over 'ah dont know about that, kitchen closed, only stayed open for you guys'. Our table was booked for 8.30 so strange kitchen closing early regardless of how few were eating! Finally we were overcharged for drinks, coffees and teas at the end which was ironic and really put sour taste in our mouths given how evening had gone so far! On good note music was fab!
What a disaster. I arranged to have a birthday dinner with my wife in what appears is a lovely bar & restaurant. Too much to complain about so I wont bother. In the end I had a beer and made my excuses and left.
I am vegetarian and before booking I checked on line and there was stuffed peppers on the menu. However when I got there on the menu it was a vegetarian special and the special was a goats cheese salad and even though one of the people with me asked could the chef do anything different s/he said that was the only option. Now it was a very nice salad but to charge 14.95 for a salad as a main course and have that as the only option is ridiculous (especially when you have a nice hot choice (proper dinner) advertised on your website). It is such a pity as the venue was lovely and the service was excellent but as a vegetarian I won't be coming back and won't recommend it to others. It is very hard to get a good pub to eat in as a vegetarian and when I saw your menu I thought I had found a place I would return to so it is disappointing that this is not the case
The owners have created a very cosy and authentic space with open fires and quirky furniture that makes the experience very enjoyable. Add to that a great menu, attentive staff good atmosphere and lovely beer garden, the Dalkey Duck ticks many boxes for me!
Nice lunch. Very quiet when we ate there but lovely staff and great for a catch up with friends
Food quality mediocre and over-priced for its quality. Restaurant was under-staffed. This really is a pub and not a restaurant, nor a gastro-pub - the Dalkey Duck website is misleading in that respect. Ambiance in the back room where we were seated not great. Despite having made a booking, table was not ready when we were seated and we were seated in the back room. Food arrived very, very fast and too fast in between courses, raising the suspicion of microwaving. A poor dining experience, in all - not bad but not good enough.
Just loved the old world air. The Beef Stew was better than mine!
Most of all, I loved the cup & saucer.
Best pub in Dublin and I hope it is a great success for Gary Whelan and Mrs Whelan.
I brought my parents from Turkey to Dalkey Duck with my husband and daughter. I’ve found the place by chance in Trip Advisor. There were not many reviews, so I was a little bit concerned. The moment we stepped in, all my concerns went away. A lovely atmosphere, great hospitality, good food and drinks. When they heard about my parents visiting, they showed extra care and effort👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 many thanks for the lovely night. And definitely we’ll come back though we live at the other end of Dublin🤗
