The place is in a basement in The Rocks so don’t expect a view. Minamilst decor with team wait staff. The food was the best part and can’t comment on the “downunder” wine list.
Great food and service
Had a Christmas meal here with a few friends. Very attentive staff, fun atmosphere, and delicious steaks. In the famous words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, "I'll be back".
The wood beams, leather chairs, marble table tops and low light create a warm an intimate atmosphere.
There staff is friendly, engaging, and well trained.
The food was amazing. Clearly my best meal in Sydney.
Family Trip
Very average. I dined alone in a mostly empty restuarant. Service was OK. Pretty limited menu for such a place.
WIne was nice and not too badly priced, howeer the steak (rib) was awful. Very flabby and tasteless.
Just - OK. I would on balance give them another chance but I live in London and it's a long way to go for a steak.
Superb meal great wine list . The service was a little patchy but of a high quality .
Wow, this place has gone downhill.
Disinterested barman who know little.
The menu has shrunk. Other than a prime run, there were just 5 steaks to choose from.
No trolley any more
No sirloin. No rib eye.
Just average or very expensive cuts.
Shame. I used to love this but I guess I am not alone in this view as it’s quiet. Tuesday 9pm and it was 25% full. Not good.
Get more meat, get some theatre and get more guests back
This was my second time at this restaurant. The first time I had the best steak I’ve ever had- this time was one of the poorest. The steak was cold, I ordered it medium/rare and it come out cut into 4 pieces (all the juices drained). Very disappointed.
I sincerely expected the top dish to be better trimmed. I understand prime rib has many ligaments, but they don’t need to be there when you are serving a cut dish.
While the knife is beautiful and very elegant, it should be serrated. Cutting the ligaments was awkward for a medium rare. Cooking was perfect and the meat was perfectly aged. Flavour-wise it couldn’t be better, but execution can be.
Opening table is not a good apps to book table! It sent us msg and email for confirmation! But once we went there, it said there was no booking! The system not go through! And for the restuarant, the waitress is not that nice, no smile! But the food and enviroment is ok. Not as outstanding as expected!
The food was delicious and our waitress was great, friendly and knowledgable. However we only had main courses and our food took 90 minutes to arrive, which was a bit too long.
Took a hour to get a medium rare steak that was awful. Very small menu nothing to choose from and service was terrible
McDonald’s is even better
Great service and steaks were done to perfection
Absolutely disgusted with this restaurant. We will never go again, we used to be regular customers and hadn't been in about 12 months so we decided to go back.
I booked online and let them know i have a shellfish allergy, within 20 mins of booking i receive a phone call from the restaurant saying there was a glitch in the system and the time slot isn't available, the only way they can accomodate us is if we take a booking prior to 6pm - we were booked in at 8pm. I told them not to worry and hung up the phone.
My husband thought it was quite odd, so he jumped on and made a booking for the same time, then had his booking confirmed, the only thing that was different was that we didn't mention the shellfish allergy!
I understand that dealing with people with allergies can be challenging but we have our own restaurant and there are ways that you can make sure people are safe - its called safe food practices!
When I arrived The Cut had no record of my booking which was embarrassing as one of my clients arrived early and was informed that there wasn’t a booking . Luckily a table was available .
The food and wine was great however.
I was a vegetarian for 5 years until I was invited to dinner with friends at The Cut.
I had the olives for starter but then just had to devour the 4hr slow cooked scotch fillet.
My god the best steak on earth.
This was my second visit and a bitter disappointment - service waa appalling and totally unfriendily it was like faulty towers. I asked 3 times before I was able to receive a drink - when I asked if I could have some bread while almost completed my entree the response was oh don't you have it yet. The food was good but not worth the cost. Do yourself a favour take your money elsewhere!
We were really looking forward to dining at the Cut and told our friends how good it was as I had dined there on another occasion.
The steaks ordered by the girls were ok but us boys ordered from the trolley the Signature medium rare 300g beef which was way too rare and when we asked it to be cooked just a little more it was very hard to cut really a bad choice of our behalf. Very disappointed.
The porterhouse was delicious, thought 300g was still too much, a 200g option would be great.
Took my Uni student daughter and friends to a fancy meal in the CBD and wasn’t disappointed. The menu had something for everyone, the service was attentive, and despite it being. Sunday night the place was busy. Very enjoyable.
I have been to The Cut a few times and so had my friend whom I was with and we both left with same feeling we had on our last visit to The Cut, food is ok, service is a real problem there, having said that the young lady on the desk was very helpful and tried her best but the rest of the service was not very good.
Not even close to how it was in 2012. Experience was weak. We had to set in bar area. And steal had 50% fat. Not even close to dry-aged wagyu beef. Horrible and expensive.
Best filet ever
An average experience given the hit and miss service, we had international visitors and very dissappointing with the quality of service.
Being seated at the table closest to the kitchen in a half empty restaurant when you are taking clients out is not a good look - won't do client lunches there again
Forty minutes between Entree and Main
Luke warm food for both courses
Quality has really dropped in the last year.
Tried the prime rib 500g. Not for me. Too fatty. The fat is not rendered. Not a fan of wagyu. But happy to give it a try. The dish is abit too cold at the end to my taste. Really love the wine.
The food lacked in flavour. High expectations and my party was disappointed.
The food is ok and like any serious steakhouse. It is good average at best.
The service was irritating. As soon as we checked in at 6.45pm, we were advised that they needed the table back at 9pm. ie. 2hrs and 15 mins for adults to time manage which was fine. As we enjoyed the order of cocktails, the waitress was insistent that we order the food as we "had a time limit." She also looked away while talking to us. Not good. We were done by 8.30pm and not impressed by the undue stress
Pricey but excellent food (steak), service good until it was time for the bill which was a bit slow to come
A little dark when first walked in but then when we sat down there was a light over our table which gave us a wonderful ambience. After a period we felt we were the only ones there we didn't notice other patrons even though the restaurant weas full. Great food, good wine selection and very attentive / lovely staff. Overall a really nice feel and would recommend this restaurant. We stayed there for 4 hours not realising the time... a big LIKE!
Great food let down by poor service
Ordered the signature dish that was supposed to be served from a trolley which it wasn't. Also had empty drinks at our table before someone came over to get us another round which i would think would be rule number 1 - always keep the customers drinking.
Overall I enjoyed the occassion and the staff were friendly but for the price we paid I may be more inclined to try a different place with a comparable price as a gauge.
Excellent dinner and exceptional service.. we needed a late night reservation and they accommodated us without any concern or pressure .. very knowledgeable wine service and food pairings..
Wonderful customer service. Very social able staff and made us feel at ease.
The presentation of our steaks was poor. A steak on a large white plate with a lemon wedge. The scotch filet was about 2cm and while I asked for medium rare, I got a good medium but it was tough. These views are based on a steak costing $50+ that would be 10-14 in a supermarket that would be ideally more suited to a breakfast steak. The flat iron steak was fair but also presented with a 'Lack Luster' on a large white plate with no garnish what so ever. The Lamb was presented well and tasty.
Great venue for a business lunch, food and service are excellent, will be back again.
Great steak, lovely vibe
Amazing experience one of the best Steak Restaurants in Sydney!!! Interior decorations are made of old timber hard wood that gives as warm cozy home atmosphere.Very original idea for breadbaskets and handles in toilets are actually Chopping Knifes. Staff was friendly and attentive, good recommendations and selection of wine. We had Red Snapper and Flat Iron Steak that was very tasty. All of us been very satisfied and had good dining experience. Snickers and Coconut musses are both very delicious
