We were really disappointed with our visit, after the reviews and looking up the menu. They tried to charge us £8 for a pint of Coca-Cola (when a different server had charged £4 earlier on our bill). Their pricing is inconsistent - we were also overcharged for chips. All of this I would have been happy to excuse had the food and the service been reasonable, but we found the food disappointing, burger dry and mussels flavourless. When we were brought the wrong drink I also found the server I spoke to to be rude. It was difficult enough to get the attention of wait staff throughout the evening, so this was exceptionally frustrating. For the price of food I would have expected something pretty exceptional, but even if the food was more reasonably priced I wouldn’t be returning. Wouldn’t recommend, there’s more reasonable pubs around with better food.

We had such a wonderful afternoon in the teepee at The Crown! The drinks, the food, the service and the beautiful surroundings were top notch! Please keep the tee pees - they are an asset! T

Having booked a long time in advanced we would have believed to have been sat within 10 minutes of arriving. We were lead to believe our table was just finishing paying and they were cleaning. 30 minutes later we still hadn’t been sat, hadn’t been offered a complimentary drink. Instead made to feel rushed by having to give our food choices. Feel your chefs and food make up for poor service given. Honesty from the beginning about our wait or at least better waiting care would have made it better!!

A bit chilly for an English May and having to be outside but The Crown did all they could to mitigate - heaters, canvas, covers on dishes and blankets on chairs. Heaven to be out to eat, first time in well over a year. Good food and service, lots of excited customers enjoying it all.

We love this pub anyway having been there on numerous occasions. We are VERY impressed with the way the pub has adapted to the changes forced by Covid. The covered areas not only provide customer safety but are attractive, comfortable and inviting. The meal was excellent and could not be faulted.

The service and ambience were great. We were in the tipi and there was a great atmosphere.
It was warm enough with the heaters and blankets provided, although a couple of rain drops came through in the heavy rain.
My only criticism (as the only veggie), was that the vegetarian options were limited, uninspiring and a tad disappointing.
All in all we had a great evening and the birthday girls very much enjoyed their celebration meal. Thank you.

The Crown have made a great effort with their outside dining. Blankets for customers to use were provided and heaters. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was excellent. We had haddock and chips from the Crown's catch of the day menu. The batter was crispy and the haddock was fresh and white and tasted good.

The covid eating arrangements were amazing. We eat in the Tepee which was beautifully set up with rustic tables and chairs and pillar flame heaters. I would imagine that people would be very happy to choose to eat in here in the future.

We were 4 and all chose to have a main course only. The fish was outstanding. The 2 skate and the 1 cod were both delicious. Cooked beautifully with very tasty and complimentary sauces and garnishes. The vegetarian pasta dish was also delicious.

Coffee was very good, with the choice of a small taster dessert being a nice touch.

Service was excellent, as well as the attention to keeping food hot. Old fashioned domes on the main courses and lids on the coffee.

All in all a wonderful lunch. We will go back.

Unfortunately our table was half an hour late and staff did not seem to know why or how long we would have to wait. We were offered a table at the front of the pub rather than in the restaurant area but there was no atmosphere here and it was not the area we had booked and therefore we decided to wait.
Once at our table, twice we were served with drinks or food for other tables.
The starter was very nice but once the main courses arrived we could not have been more disappointed - the food was dry, poorly cooked, items forgotten and the chicken was served with some feathers on!!
We usually have such a great time here with good food, service and ambience so to say we were disappointed was an understatement. The team did make an adjustment to the bill but it was a shame this was necessary.
We will probably try The Crown again but it won’t be for good time yet.

Lovely top class food but questionable service. It was very slow and often we were forgotten and things we asked for were forgotten as well. Definitely could have been better.

Loved the bread and butter pudding dessert. Service and ambience was spot on. Didn't give a 5 star, even though had fab meal because there was only 1 veggie option and the side salad was minimal for the price.

Lovely anniversary lunch. Crispy squid was delicious as was the hake fillet with asparagus and mange tout. My husband enjoyed the crab mayonnaise and then a very plump skate wing with salad and chips. We shared the white chocolate bread pudding with cranberries and custard. All washed down with a bottle of Macon Villages. Have booked to visit again next month for Fathers birthday lunch.
