The Consulate
Located on the Upper West Side, the restaurant features a French American menu which includes brunch favorites; blueberry cast iron pancakes, classic eggs benedict and beet and gin cured salmon. Dinner features sumptuous short rib cavatelli, perfectly seared steaks, roasted herb chicken and locally sourced seafood dishes such as seared branzino, scallop tartare with crispy shallots, and perfectly prepared octopus and mussels.
Been coming here regularly since they opened and have been quite pleased until now. Service was a complete disappointment this time: brought me the wrong drink twice (I didn’t bother asking them to get it right after the second time), the wrong dish (which they additionally tried to charge me for) and the service was entirely extremely slow. Reluctant to return after this.
This was our first visit to The Consulate and we were extremely disappointed. A party of three, none of us had a meal that we thought was up to snuff. The steak frites cost $42 and seemed to be covered in some sort of gravy posing as peppercorn sauce; the branzino tasted like a sad pond. Luckily, our kale salad and the wine were both good. But we won’t be going back.
One of my favorite places in NYC! Outstanding food and great atmosphere, friendly charismatic staff. Have great time every time I go!
The menu looked great so I made a reservation for Christmas and was shocked when I arrived to find they basically turned an outdoor restaurant into an inside one. We did not feel safe at all with covid. There were only two windows and a door open. The rest was sealed tight and inside was very warm. Needless to say, we didn't eat here. Shocked they're passing muster with the health authorities.
We went to another restaurant, French Roast, that respects the safety of its clientele with heat lamps and plastic dividers.
Horrible service. It was Christmas Eve and they weren’t busy at all. We showed up with a reservation. I asked about a chicken dish that used to be on the menu. The waiter said he would check with the chef. He returns 15 minutes later and asks if we’re ready to order. I asked if he had checked about the chicken. He said he had and the chef could make it. My fiancé ordered the $50 Christmas Eve special fish. Our food came 40 minutes later. I did not receive the chicken I asked for. Rather the chicken that was currently on the menu. My fiancé’s fish was Ice cold. They said they would make him a new one however they returned less than 5 minutes later with the plate just heated up. It was a $200 meal that was probably not worth 50. It’s sad because we used to love this place. Will most likely never return
Very memorable dinner. Absolutely everything we ordered was so delicious. The service was generous and attentive. Quick but not hurried. Cocktails were outstanding as well. Just a great experience. Can’t wait to go back.
Had to eat outdoors
Prompt, Attentive , Delicious and enjoyable Ambiance.
Great outdoor dining compared to others in the neighborhood (considering the climate we are in) ; supplied with heated lamps. The Consulate is a great choice. Korean Steak and the Rising Sun cocktail is one of my favorites.
The staff was wonderful to us during these unusual time😊
Overall very nice, some of the items we ordered were just average but we still enjoyed the evening
Lovely dining experience at The Consulate. The Brussels sprouts and kale salad was excellent. The skate fish and French fries were delicious. And the apple tart was wonderful. The service was outstanding the room is beautiful. So glad that I live right nearby.
Love the food choices @The Consulate!! Excellent service too!
Extremely expensive
Always an amazing experience at The Consulate! We sat at the high table inside: the service was impeccable and the food delicious!
Great food and service!
Excellent choice — great room, food, and service. Highly recommended.
Cute place for girls night out. I would recommend to order cocktails, Jelena makes them so delicious.
I am a vegan and they had not one single option for me. This is a real pity. I landed up with a salad (hold the cheese) . I am sure they could do better than this. It's NYC
Excelente , Excelente !!!
Food was amazing ( mushrooms , goat cheese flat bread , and burrata, delicious . Hanger Steak, cook perfect. Service one of the best in our neighborhood . And floor manager make us feel very welcome .
Friendly , Kind and attentive to all detail.
Congratulations
Great !!! Great. Job !!!
Neighborhood gem! This place never disappoints. Food and service are phenomenal and an amazing wine/cocktail list to couple it.
Great addition to the neighborhood! Lovely outdoor space. Delightful menu, well prepared & delicious food, professional service.
Such a lovely setting, and so cozy with the heat lamps -- but the food is overpriced and mediocre, and it was half an hour before anyone came to tell us the specials (no, it was not busy). I've eaten here twice and had the same experience both times. It's a shame, because with this setting, it could be a home run!!
Excellent food, attentive service, nice thoughtful set up for outdoor dining.
absolutely delicious food. we ate in their outdoor tent (they have heaters!) and even though it was an insanely windy night it was cozy and nice; service was good and the food and drinks were great!
I live down the street from The Consulate and finally tried it for lunch. I'm so happy that I did. The restaurant is so nice and cozy, and has plenty of outdoor seating, too. My hummus, tuna sandwich with salad and chocolate lava cake were all delicious. The service was very good. The place also has a great energy to it, even during these times. I'll go back very soon.
A cheerful restaurant where you are not lost in a noisy crowd. The Serbian owner visits the tables multiple times, to ensure customers are satisfied.
The service could not be better.
If only they did not take such liberties with the food. The fish chips were cool, drenched in oil and tasteless. The sauce on the Steak and Frites seemed to be there by mistake. The Hamburger and French Fries were fabulous but that can not be a criteria. The chef's heart is in the right place but that is not enough. They should also have a better choice of beers.
All in all, it is a promising place but they need to keep working at it in the kitchen.
I would go back to this place.
Friends birthday lunch
Our go-to spot. Outside dining very comfortable. Food us always good. They will need to invest in a plate warmer to serve food on hot plates to be able to enjoy a warm meal out side as the weather gets colder.
Wonderful cocktails.
Overall the meal and service were great. What was odd was that we had to order everything all at once, including our drinks. So we sat for quite a while, as we tried to decide on what we wanted to each drink, an appetizer that we could share, as well as our main courses. The food arrived in proper succession, but it was a bit much to not even be able to order drinks as we contemplated the food choices. Despite that, we all did enjoy it.
They have done a lovely job with outdoor dining.
I wasn’t impressed with the food I ate; a bit over-priced, as well as the wines per glass.
My daughter birthday
Nice outdoors space with lovely menu and great service. We intend to return again soon.
A lovely new spot on the West SIde for fine food, service, outdoor tables and high ceilings.
This was our first indoor dining experience of 2020 since COVID. The waitstaff were incredibly courteous, I felt taken care of but also not unsafe/too much contact. Our food was devine. My comment at the end of the night was how nice it was to have such a great all around meal again. We will be back!
It's a bit overpriced for what you get... but, we had a great table... and a fun evening.... the appetizers were the best deal...
great food and atmosphere. the only thing is I wish the servers would wear full masks vs the little half ones.
Fantastic, friendly service and a great menu. We had several starters, including the grilled artichoke and the flatbread -- all fantastic. I had the burger and my wife had the Frisee salad as her entree. Delicious. And great wine pairings. We will be back!
Lovely and personable owners, excellent food and service.
My favorite local restaurant - food, ambiance, and service are outstanding!
