We have been here before and enjoyed the food so recommended this restaurant to have dinner with our friends. Despite the possible lockdown due to CoVid19 we decided to go ahead with our booking on Saturday night to support the restaurant. We could not fault our waiter however we were extremely disappointed with the food. While my meal was tasty, the chicken was overcooked and difficult to cut and the veges particularly the pumpkin were cold. My husband had the ribs and found they were overcooked and difficult to remove from the bone, everyone having chips commented that they seemed undercooked and the coleslaw was like slop piled high. Now we can understand food not quite up to standard if the restaurant and bar were packed but both were virtually empty. I was so disappointed as I could have produced a far better quality meal at home for less than half of what it cost us. Unfortunately we will not be returning.
Always great! One of our favourite restaurants. Staff, food and drinks are all exceptional
Booked for 10 - Sorry, only 9 arrived, but we all agreed we would book here again as the food and service were second to none. Little lady that waited on our table was very good - an asset to your establishment. Wine waiter also very good, and the wine was excellent too. Thank you from the 1958 Old Girls from St. Margaret's Anglican Girls' School, Ascot. Yes, we were all either 79 or 80 years of age!
We all enjoyed our lovely dinner however we all thought that the restaurant was very noisy.
Very poor service. And the signature thomahawk steak 1.4kg "no where near" paid $130 for a bone and 6 slices of meat. I could not recommend this place to anyone in fact I would say find somewhere else. Rubbish
Tasty, prompt and good value. Our waiter was great - he really knew his stuff and after asking if we were going to a show, he made sure we would be there for the curtain call. We will be back.
I took 12 clients to dinner at the Squire. We chose the Convicts Banquet and with wines we spent $100 per person for a perfect fine dining experience. Staff were very attentive, and the food just kept coming. The standard of food served was high class. Wines were chosen from a wide range on the night.
Highly recommend this restaurant for people looking for elegant food, modern ambiance, and a totally pleasing night out.
The service from the waiter was excellent. The food was average. The lamb was chewey and the seafood curry was more like a laksa. Wines by the glass too limited.
Service is always really great at Charming Squire. The wait staff are attentive and very friendly. The food let us down so much this time we won’t be back. The steak was very rare, undercooked and had a lot of gristle. It was very disappointing for the price point.
Great location the food was excellent and value for money was very good. The staff were very accommodating and friendly highly recommend a visit 👍
Good place for a date. Did not get a very good table placement as the restaurant was busy. Food was above average
We arrived a little late to our reservation (traffic) but that wasn't a problem for the staff who found our reservation, seated us and then asked us if we were going to see a show over the road - which we were - our server helped us determine which menu items would come out quickly so we wouldn't be late for our show. Food came out super quick, so did drinks but no quality was compromised and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The bar next door is noisy but it didn't make a huge impact on our dinner. - great night - thanks
Very good food. Very accomdating with shows at qpac.
Excellent food, service and surroundings - even on a Saturday night!
The service was extremely good. My partner and myself had 2 different main courses, 1 x steak and 1 x lamb, and both were average in quality with too much fat.
The plate the steak was dished up was not flat, so had a wobble and would spin, challenging to say the least. Will maybe just have a pizza next time ?
Whilst the service was great, the 5 share plates we ordered were all overcooked. When you are paying these prices you want the food to be tasty!
Delicious food and great service! Consideration was given to expected show time at QPAC and time check ins were made to ensure appropriate timing to attend show. Service was friendly, thoughtful and considerate.
Had a great time, food and service was good. Drinks were good value. We paid with cash but they had already added a credit card surcharge onto the bill which we didn’t see until after we’d left so watch out for that.
4:30pm was a great time to be there on the restaurant not too busy or noisy. The food was tasty and delivered promptly as the server knew we were headed to a 6pm show.
Unfortunately we came when the guests come who visit before the show- I assume.
Service was poor and short as the guys were busy
No indication that the food was going to take 40 minutes
requests were forgotten about
tables did not get cleaned all around us.
Definitely- poor rostering and the team on could not cope so some were a bit rude.
We love it here so we will come again BUT embarrassing if you bring guests from overseas!!
Waiter was tremendous and polite. Definitely re visit thanks to him.
The steaks were ridiculously over cooked.
The service was great and the waitress knew her stuff but the steaks were as tough as boots. We would have complained but we had a show to go too soon after.
Exceptional food, lamb shoulder was incredible but so was the duck, the seafood pasta and starters. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and whilst not cheap, totally worth the prices.
Always our go to spot for a lovely dinner. We went here with in-laws before a show at QPAC and the staff were accommodating to us as we were short on time. Great spot!!
We have used the restaurant a lot and my husband chose to use it fir his husbands 40th birthday-this is the first time we have ever been disappointed! Our waiter acknowledged his birthday (is our it on the reservation) and he was lovely-but we had to wait around 75 minutes fir our food to come out. When we questioned this, we were told there had been 100’s of dockets before us-and this is the reason he had offered us some nibbles to keep us going. He did offer us nibbles when he took our order, but he never told us about lots of orders being before us-not at my point were we told we would be waiting so long! After clearing our plates, we then had to wait at least 20 mins for our dessert order to be taken, and then when my husband was half way through his-we were told by our server that he was annoyed because he had got a sparkler to put in my husband’s dessert but they didn’t advise him that his dessert had been brought out so we managed to sing half way through his dessert.
I do understand that this restaurant is used before theatre performances and they need to get these people out in time-but it shouldn’t be to the detriment of other people-especially a table of 7 with kids fir a celebratory meal!
The restaurant is seperate to the bar hower the noisy, crowded bar area made the restaurant too loud. Food was average.
Don’t try the Duck (even though it was recommended). Overcooked and saturated in sauce. 50 minutes for mains to be served also meant we had to rush our food to get to our show on time. Apparently there was a “bottleneck” in the kitchen which shouldn’t happen when you’re paying high prices for your meals and the venue promotes “pre show dining” so you are not rushing.
Whether it be lunch, dinner or just a catch up for a drink The Charming Squire can cater for it all - great atmosphere, good range of food, service is terrific - we'll be back for sure :)
Have enjoyed this restaurant many times. Being so close to QPAC and buses is a plus. Love the atmosphere in the bar for a pre dinner drink. My main course of duck was delicious. We will certainly return. Our waitress was delightful and helpful.
Steak was good, chips were good. Could've done with more aioli with our chips we shared though was to nervous to ask for more after paying $9 for a bottle of water for my partner and I. I'd have loved a bit more pepper gravy on my steak. But it seem to all have ended up in the jug of gravy my partner got. And the house salad I ordered as a side for $10 seemed old and no way fresh and smelled funny.
Our meal took 1 hour to come out. Yes it was busy but when it came I ordered the chicken and it was 2 small drumsticks and a small chicken. Full of bones no meat and no flavour and it was cold. For $32 I could have gone to Nandos and got some flavour and value.
The food was very expensive and the steaks at $45 and $38 were not cooked as asked and very tough. We wouldn't return way too expensive for the food we received.
The food was okay. We got really rushed through our meal and felt like we were being pushed out even though the restaurant wasn’t very full.
Food was poor. Cold and not pleasant. Booked for 8.3p but table not ready. Had to chase up staff to get our table ready. Food service was inattentive. Didn't bring water. Whole sections of the menu not available.
Celebrating daughters graduation
Best tasting barramundi ive ever had and the side very tasty very friendly staff and nicely set out very roomy feeling not crapped will be back
We were running late due to traffic issues. had to rush our meal a little, but the staff well and truly catered for this in a very friendly manner. Returned after seeing our show, they found us a table no trouble at all! One of my favourite restaurants!
Absolutely magnificent ... food, service and ambience! Highly recommend!
The best food and service for a reasonable price. Just don’t let them sit you next to the kitchen. The whole time we listened to chefs yelling orders and table numbers at each other. Clanging and banging and hurry ups. Would have been 5 star otherwise
the coal pit lamb was dry, overdone. did not live up to the name of the dish.
