A village pub with real ales, great food and accommodation near Bath
The Catherine Wheel is a 17th century country pub in the historic conservation village of Marshfield. It’s just eight miles north of the Roman city of Bath (a World Heritage site) and 13 miles from the port of Bristol, named European Green Capital 2015.

Very welcoming staff and attentive service on last day before they had to close again for lockdown. We enjoyed our lunch, thank you.
AMAZING! Great food, friendly service, we love it here. Would highly recommend to anyone after a lovely country pub experience. Portions are big!
This was our first visit and certainly will not be the last, our Sunday lunches we excellent value and served by friendly welcoming staff. Our dietary request on the booking form was all sorted when we arrived so all in all a great experience....stay safe and see you after lockdown
Very good , quality fare xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Charming and attentive service. Generous portions and would highly recommend.
As usual we had an excellent meal. One of our favourite places.
We really enjoyed our Sunday lunch. We were able to park our cars on the street with no problem, just a very short walk away.
We were shown to a very large table, well spaced next to the front window, our drinks orders taken immediately and brought promptly. The food was all excellent. The main course was served on very hot plates with a really good choice of vegetables. And we had the best cheesecake ever! There was just the right wait between courses. The decor was comfortable and relaxing, and the noise level just right. All at a very fair price.
Sadly my beef was over cooked though other meat was fine. Nothing was hot enough. Sunday lunch used to be outstandingly good.
Absolutely fab pub, well presented, well ran and VERY good food!
We will definitely be back!!
We quite like to eat in the bar but the dining room was good for a group of people.
Been several times, never disappoints. The service, staff and food are always excellent.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Not fancy or expensive, just good quality and good price.
Thank you
Staff very polite and friendly. Covid secure environment. Such a lovely relaxing place to eat and drink we call in every time we are in the area.
A bit quiet for a Saturday lunchtime, then it is off the beaten track. Staff were very friendly and efficient, service a good pace and very generous portions of good food - none of us quite finished our mains! Good menu selection, inc veggie option (s?)
For traditional pub grub this was fine. Obviously a pub with a local clientele(it was a Fri eve). Not an intimate evening dinner setting.
Great food and value for money. Staff friendly and attentive.
I really like the Wheel. Nice ambience, & a friendly reception. Good beer and wine selection. The food is fine, but I'd love to see the menu change from time to time, or be regularly updated, or more specials offered once Covid19 begins to loosen its grip. I'd eat there more often if I knew the menu offered some new surprises.
Lovely service...couldn't have had a nicer lunch.
Friendly efficient staff who made you feel welcome. Covid19 aware environment up to date. Architectural building of interest and interior well presented. Garden welcoming. Good choice of food which was delicious. Husband enjoyed real beer. Would definitely recommend and return to.
Booked for a meal to start our 25th wedding anniversary weekend. Lovely pub very clean, excellent food. Will go back again when next in the area.
Lovely local pub serving large portions of good quality food. Roasts are very good. Staff friendly.
Good food, great prices and service was excellent on a busy Sunday lunchtime
Good social distancing in the dining room on the left as you go in.
A delicious Sunday roast, huge portions. Good drinks. One of the few places open on a Sunday evening.
Lovely roast. Well priced. Good menu. Can’t wait to return
Good food, good service friendly staff. Lovely steak. Good covid precautions
The first meal we have had at the Catherine Wheel since Covid-19. Standard as good as ever. We had the lasagne and the steak and ale pie and both were top quality.
Felt very safe eating there and will be back soon.
Booking a table on line easy and reliable, very friendly greeting on arrival ,drinks and meal order taken Promptly, drinks arrived immediately followed by meal in less than 15 minutes, My husbands steak done to perfection he enjoyed his meal I had lasagne which also very nice and enjoyable, the service Was very good, distancing due to COVID adhered to and felt safe throughout our visit, would thoroughly recommend
Large portion of food. Nice people. Lovely town.
We had another very good meal at the Catherine Wheel. I had curry and my wife had fish and chips - both excellent. Service was also excellent. Good beer too :-)
Excellent meals and efficient service, best restaurant steak I’ve eaten in a long time
Great food, friendly service - but service was sparse, no-one ever came back to offer more drinks throughout the whole meal.
We were also seated next to (and too close to) a large table of males, who clearly were not from the same household, who were loud and boisterous while we were trying to eat. Tables were way too close together (even for a non-Covid envrionment)
Social distancing, or spacing tables out to allow for Covid was simple non-exsitant.
Had a wonderful meal for my birthday.
Have had many meals here and can not fault anything.
I had fish with sweet potato fries instead of chips and my husband enjoyed his well done steak.
The chocolate brownie with ice cream was amazing and Marshfield ice cream is the best ice cream ever (living in Marshfield I would say that of course !!)
Service as always was excellent.
Would definitely recommend The Catherine Wheel for a meal.
Thanks to Roo and her staff.
Good menu. Good value. Perfect setting and service. Very happy with our lunch at the Catherine Wheel with friends.
Excellent service, food and beer quality. Will definitely return.
Had a really time at the Catherine Wheel, Service brilliant, food brilliant .... we will be back again soon
Lovely dinner in a lovely pub.
Very enjoyable dinner with friends in a nice dining room (also airy and with a high ceiling, perfect for dining in at the moment and not at all the usual low-ceilinged pub).
Very nice food, and very little to criticise, only that the portions of ice cream seemed a little small but when my wife questioned this, the waiter/chef came back with more !
Would definitely go back /recommend to others.
Service was not so good and the food was average, good selection of vegetables, meat was good and sufficient but roast potatoes was poor.
food was excellent, nicely spaced out. Clean and tidy
