The carpenters arms
Nice pub/restaurant with a reasonable menu. we were there early evening so it wasn't too busy. Food was ok, we had Beef & Ale suet pudding it was very nice. my only comment was that is was a little salty but this is just my personal taste. Service was fine. Service charge is added to bill which is a little cheeky.
The service was very slow but the waitress was very nice and we were not in a rush. We were a party of five and everyone said they enjoyed their meal. My starter was lovely but my main which was roast beef was smothered in very salty gravy. I had the beef on a previous visit and don’t remember the gravy being like that. It was almost like granular stuff. Anyway that apart my beef was beautiful so it was a shame. My desert was treacle pudding with creme anglais and that was also a let down. The sauce was split but pudding was nice. Again a shame. The restaurant is very nice and we took our drinks outside after as it was a nice day and a lovely effort has been put in the outdoor areas. On the whole our second visit was slightly less enjoyable than the first but it was fairly busy. I would say 6.5/10
It is some time since we visited the Carpenters and we really were pleasantly surprised, it has always been good honest fare, but does seem to have moved up a gear in all areas, presentation in particular. Good well cooked food, an interesting menu and very good service, for what was a busy Sunday lunchtime. Well done.
Poor, inexperienced service. Food over priced for what you get.
Unfortunately the food was not very good. The lamb koftas were hard and cold and the chicken curry was poor. We waited a very long time for the desserts which when they came, the brandy roasted peaches with amaretto ice cream turned out to be barely warm nectarines without any brandy and the ice cream was vanilla! The manageress did remove the cost of desserts from the bill which was a thoughtful action. Service was very good and it’s a pleasant place to go. Maybe Mondays are not a good time to go.
We waited nearly an hour for food and it came out cold!
Family meal, staff friendly and helpful, food really good, service good too, the only critism is that our seating area (we chose one of the huts) hadn't been cleaned and the glasses for our drinks weren't too clean either, which was a real shame as we love this restaurant and have used it on and off for many years, we could have moved in fairness as this wasn't the first choice of seating , just took the edge of the meal a little bit, otherwise a lovely evening
We went there Sunday early evening and were looking forward to a roast meal however they could not provide roast potatoes which is not very good considering top prices.
Food good, service poor. Staffed by students I think, on a Sunday afternoon. Drinks were slow to arrive, 1 dessert was forgotten about/not delivered with the rest. Chased up the dessert and was presented with 2 Yorkshire puddings - and the waitress laughed! Staff were generally not that attentive. We had to ask for several different things which were then slow to arrive and had to be chased up. Glasses were not cleared in a timely manner. Lastly, please buy some mint to put in Pimms.
As on previous occasions, the food and service was extremely good.
Excellent evening for a family celebration of 93rd birthday.
Great meal, speedy service which was impressive as it was a very busy Friday evening. Great value for money. The only downside was the amount of smoke which blew in from the outside terrace, it reminded me of how bad pubs used to smell.
This pub was excellent when I was last here 5 years ago but now not so much. A poor greeting buy shabily dressed staff (whose response to my announcing our reservation was 'no problem'), prompt drinks service, no consideration of separating screaming children aged about 7 from us - an adult couple with fewer years in front than behind, the desert was so long in arriving that we paid what was due and walked out before it turned up. It will be a long time before we return to this gastro pub.
Always a lovely place to go, been multiple times and food always scrumptious.
Went there for a birthday meal - food was well cooked and presented with care - unfortunately the “birthday boy” couldn’t have his choice they’d run out of ham eggs and chips a simple choice but obviously very popular. Good selection of beer
Come here often, and always have our friends Xmas meal here. Service is great and it’s a relaxed atmosphere. The kitchen staff are always accommodating when we ask for something not quite on the menu. Food is hot and delicious, good portions! Keep serving lots of veg, as so many places don’t give loads of veg. A cosy place, no rush on leaving, delicious food!
Very pleasant and helpful staff. Food was lovely. Will definitely visit again.
The food was great. The service however was poor.
The waitress forgot to add an item that was ordered meaning this arrived at our table after all the meals had been eaten.
When checking our bill, we had been charged for 2 pints of beer that we did not order, so we had to ask for this to be removed.
We had poor service/comments from one of the waitresses, she was just outright rude to us.
Had it not have been for poor service then we would have probably returned
Really nice afternoon meal. Great location and surroundings. The food was really tasty and they had some zero alcohol beer. What more could you want.
What a lovely place, too many lovely things on the menu - was difficult to choose. The staff were very friendly, decor of pub and outside seating areas were great - will definitely be back
Good food. Sufficient choice on the menu. Service also good.
Disappointed with Carpenters' Arms. I had a cheese and pickle ciabatta with chips on the side. The ciabatta, or rather the pickled therein with the cheese, tasted a bit like mouthwash and the chips were floppy and overcooked. My guests had the fish finger sandwich with coleslaw (I think) on chunky bread. Fish fingers in both cases very overcooked and the bread was way too big - I have heard of a doorstep sandwich but this was over and above the call of duty as it were. Service was good, though. Greeted by and incredibly attractive barmaid (oops . . . am I allowed to say that without incurring the wrath of every member of the PC brigade?) who handed us over to her colleague to guide us to our very nice table. Lovely ambience - shame about the food.
Service was a bit slow. Food was medium and had fish and chips. Fish was slightly over cooked and oily fish was on top of chips which made the dish very oily!
The booking process was fine, they had our table ready for when we arrived, the breakfast was great and good coffee!
The service was good, what more can you ask for!
The Carpenters is a great country pub. Warm and friendly service and good pub food.
Great food, good atmosphere and a popular place. Only reason I gave less than 5 stars is because the cutlery tray was empty in the garden and when it was filled up several of them appeared still dirty and they need a good scrub. But food was great!
A lovely pub with delicious food. It was just the service that let it down. We had to wait quite a long time to be served and it took over an hour for our mains to arrive as it was so busy. The staff were great but they were clearly short staffed and struggled to manage all of the tables. Great food though!
Great pub, with excellent food and service. Food was great and served fresh, good size portions and very tasty.
Always get good service, food and atmosphere. A lovely place to go
We enjoyed our visit to the Carpenters arms very much and will certainly visit again. The service was excellent and the food was very good. We loved the surroundings and will definitely recommend the pub to our friends and family.
Lovely pub, good food my only gripe is the desert was served completely differently than it had been the week before which I preferred but friendly staff good atmosphere would go again
We had eaten here before and it has always been great. However this time the food was quite cold and the waitress forgot the vegetables Not the best meal but would go again just in case this was a one off
It always a pleasure dining at The Carpenters Arms. On this occasion it was for breakfast with 4 friends which we all throughly enjoyed. The ambience, service and food certainly makes this a place to visit.
Roast dinner was lukewarm. Fish and chips was okay. My coffee arrived way after my wife’s dessert. Had to wait ages for bill. This used to be a really great gastro pub but quality of food has gone down hill over past year and service is pretty patchy.
Food really delicious and great choice for veggies
Had lunch with friends recently and really enjoyed our visit. Food was excellent, with good portions and delicious. The choice was excellent, with several vegan or vegetarian options too. We enjoyed sitting in the garden in one of the huts, which are extremely comfortable.
Popped in for breakfast- staff were very helpful and friendly with the kids👍 Food was great.
Great food , and good value. Very very slow service (45 mins for puds to arrive and only ice cream!) Arrived at 630 and left at 945. A shame as lovely food . It would make me hesitate about going back particularly as no apology for delay
Great environment, good food. Service was very quick and pleasant. We loved the ambiance of the pub and all the fresh flowers on the patio. It is set in a lovely place with the fields stretching out around it.
Lovely pub but food was just a bit overpriced.
