The Carlyle Restaurant
Exceptional dining experience in an oasis of gentility and elegance. Don't miss this experience.
This became our new favorite restaurant! Food was amazing and Charles the table captain was perfect!! I have dietary issues and everything was prepared with attention to my needs in mind. Mostly, we appreciated the ambiance, the romantic atmosphere and such a lovely evening! Thank you!!
The Carlyle is VERY expensive and the service isn't commensurate with the prices. The staff is very attentive but not particularly well trained. I took my sister-in-law to the Carlyle for a birthday lunch and three times, while she was still eating, the waiter tried to clear our plates. The rest of the staff seemed stiff and overly formal versus other restaurants I've been to in this price range.
Equally offensive was I ordered a salad that was on the price-fixed menu ala carte and asked that grilled salmon be added atop the salad. They charged me for both the salad and a full salmon entree. I order a salad/salmon combo often and have never had a restaurant charge like that . Though, I could have challenged the charge, I didn't want to make things awkward, given that I was trying to make this lunch a nice experience for my sister-in-law. The Carlyle Hotel holds special significance for me, since my husband and I were married there 36 years ago, but I won't be returning to The Carlyle Restaurant.
Superb service and lovely surroundings. Grand spot for a quiet celebration.
Very disappointing meal all around....unfortunately, as we frequent Bemelman’s & were going for a nice culinary experience.
I called ahead to confirm that they were doing restaurant week and when we asked for the menu, they said that they already stopped on Friday. So we ended up having to pay DOUBLE for dinner!!
I ate at the Carlyle for dinner during restaurant week. Restaurant week is the way to eat at the Carlyle. The food and beverage is very expensive. My food was excellent. I had the beet salad, gnocchi and the creme brûlée. My service on the other hand was not good. My waiter ignored me the entire time I was there. He treated me completely different than all his other tables. He didn’t introduce himself. I was only given the restaurant week menu. I was not told the specials. I had to ask for the wine and cocktail menus. I was dining alone but that is no excuse to treat me different than the other guests. He did offer me coffee or tea at the end of the meal. I had to flag a different server down so that I could get my bill. Because I couldn’t get my waiters attention. I will never return. The food was excellent but I don’t have to pay $35 for an entree to be ignored.
Wonderful service and food. Beautiful experience. I highly recommend
Very attentive staff. Food was great. Ambiance was outstanding.
Excellent meal, service, decor and ambience. My daughter and I stopped in for breakfast and as always, loved it.
Been on the bucket list for a long time. Beautiful room. Friendly service. Food was good. We did the Restaurant Week menu, so other offerings might be more impressive. Glad we went.
The staff made the experience fun when it could have been pretentious and stuffy.
We were there during NYC restaurant week which means great bargains for luxurious dining.
We went to The restaurant week dinner and the food was mediocre even for a cheap restaurant week menu.
I was totally surprised as we were expecting something much more special from the restaurant of this caliber.
Even for $47 it felt like a waste of money...
It was truly delightful, charming and gracious
Great table, food and service
Fantastic place to stay! Upscale, very clean and a service staff second to none. This will definitely be a regular hotel stay.
Get together with our childhood friend who relocated to Cali fornia. She loved everything the Carlyle had to offer. We will be back... thank you for all your services.
Had lunch during restaurant week. The ambience was fabulous and so was the food. The service could’ve been more attentive...had to ask for water twice and there was no checking in to see if everything was ok and would we like anything else.
I highly recommend lunch . It was a treat all in all.
The restaurant is lovely. I brought a friend for her birthday about five years ago and we loved it. This time the atmosphere and service were outstanding. The food was boring. I ordered the scallops. It was a soup full of potatoes with a few scallops. I did not like it. The lobster bisque and creme brûlée were delicious. The main courses were unimaginative. I asked for de caffeinated tea to keep my friends company while they had their coffee. I got a big pot of tea ( that cost $10) and drank one cup of tea.
They did better last time.
Waited an hour for food from servers who could’ve cared less.
Absolutely stunning decor, immaculately preserves and restored from the Art Deco era, along with a very welcoming and warm staff who Made us feel at home from the moment we entered the building!
Wonderful experience.
Excellent food and service in wonderful surroundings.
Excellent food as ever wonderful staff as always
Great place, great food and elegant view
Don't need a Captain. Server is enough. Service spotty. Server and Captain didn't interface well.
Our Waiter/Captain, Charles, was amazing!!!
We will definitely be back.
My favorite restaurant in NYC. Love the Carlyle with my whole heart! Impeccable service, the most delicious food, in such a historic hotel! If you have the means, go here! Perfect for date night, girl's night out, or lunch with mom. I'm a walking advertisement for this place!
Very glamorous. Stepping back in time in the best way...steeped in NYC history.
Lobster bisque was good should have been a little thicker rack of lamb was great desserts were the weak point chocolate cake was average creme brûlée was horrible, it tasted like soap it was the lavender flavor of flowers but it was more like soap service was great I would return
Greatest place in NYC
Wonderful dinner to begin the new year. Charles took great care of us and introduced us to what is now my favorite dessert of all time. Nice and quiet after New Year's Eve the night before, most welcome.
Beautiful venue but poor service. Waiter kept reaching in front of my wife to serve me. My water glass was filled only once and I had to ask for a second glass. When I asked for the check it was a comedy routine by the wait staff deciding who was going to give it to me. It was like a game of hot potato. The lobster bisque was excellent but the halibut was over cooked. the brownie desert was dry and not very tasty. To bad this once excellent restaurant has fallen so far.
Rare and in a grand tradition of high end New York fine dining
Sonnets could be written about the bread and butter
Cabernet that should be drunk by the drop instead of the sip
Fish filet from pampered salmon
Loved this restaurant. Great service and excellent food.
The Sunday Brunch was excellent. Wonderful service, excellent atmosphere and delicious food. I highly recommend this delightful opportunity. Thank you.
Beautiful setting, great service and wonderful food. A very special place to go for a Christmas brunch with your very special spouse!
Brunch last Sunday with my daughter was lovely. The hotel is decorated for the holidays, and it is absolutely gorgeous. The food, especially the French toast with berries, was delicious. Service, as always, was impeccable. This is my favorite spot in NYC for breakfast. Lunch in the library is always delightful, as well... and Bemelman's Bar cannot be beat for classic "Old New York" style with live piano and great people-watching. It's very popular and gets crowded, so arrive early to secure a table.
Best Captain in the restaurant business there for every need and want!! Fantastic experience.
