The Carlton Wine Room
Excellent food, excellent wine, excellent service.
Cannot recommend this restaurant enough - the food, the wine, the service were all incredible. We felt super welcome from the moment we arrived and left very full and very happy.
First time here and just loved it. The staff were welcoming as soon as you walked in. The place is intimate but unpretentious. Great advice on both wine and food. We decided on fish and veggie choices from the menu and the bottle of wine recommended was perfect. Highlights for us were the kingfish crudo with fresh horseradish and the signature stracciatella with mushrooms but everything we had was made with great care and delicious. We had a bottle of Italian fruili, a not too expensive wine from the amazing wine list. We will definitely be back.
Food was fabulous, varied and adventurous as per usual. Service excellent in terms of providing relevant information. Sommelier was helpful and accurate in terms of suitable wines. Have introduced a number of friends, who will now make the place their own place to relax and enjoy
Fabulous service and the food was just incredible. The staff were so helpful and knowledgeable and really made it a special night. Will definitely be coming back, even if just for a bottle of wine and some amazing nibbles!
Food and wine were good but the service was 3/5 because it was a birthday celebration night with my partner and we expected nice and chill mood in the restaurant not in rush. However, even though some tables came earlier than us but the waiter asked us to leave their restaurant even we didn’t get a dessert order yet.
The $65 per head tasting was wonderful. A great way to try a little bit of everything.
We were a group of six. We went more individual than shared but both looked good. A good range and, not surprising, a better than average winelist; though you could spend a bit on a drop.
The lighting and ambience upstairs was pleasantly quiet but still lively enough.
Delicious creative dishes. Pleasantly attentive staff. A great place to catch up with good friends for lunch, because the noise levels aren't excessive.
Outstanding food, world-class wine list. My favourite in Carlton.
What a delightful treat :) great services and food was fabulous. Ambience was also very good for small parties and intimate dining. One con though, at the pricier end, we would have expected a greater seoection of wines.
Our dinner at the Carlton Wine Room was stunning. From the minute we walked in the service was friendly and efficient. We went on bring your own bottle night, but after a quick glance at the very thorough wine list, decided we would be back ASAP. But the food - just incredible. Exciting, unexpected, and delicious - and absolutely incredible value. We had the daily selection for $65, which included pretty much everything we would have chosen anyway! The few small dietaries in our group were changed out with ease. It’s hard to pick favourites, but the straciatella with potato focaccia was a standout. Can’t rate this highly enough, and can’t wait to go back!
I took my husband here for his birthday, it was a absolutely fantastic and we both loved it. We picked our own options from the menu and the sommelier matched different wines to each of our choices - he also suggested half glasses so that we could try lots of different types without breaking the bank. The staff were excellent, personable and knowledgeable - but not at all stuffy or up themselves. There are 2 private dining rooms upstairs which look fantastic too. I highly recommend Carlton Wine Rooms. 10/10!
Excellent service - good advice on menu selection - very enjoyable experience.
Amazing place. Wine selection was outstanding, I've found a new favourite!
Had the chef's menu here and it was absolutely delicious - nothing to fault at all. Especially loved the foccacia with stracciatella and mushrooms, duck croquette and rum baba! Also had great wine recommendations. Service was very attentive and thoughtful. Would definitely come back the next time I'm in Melbourne and highly recommend to all of my friends!
We went to Melbourne for the weekend and came here for dinner. The service was on point both on the phone and on the night. Danny was very knowledgeable in explaining and recommending wines to go with our food. We went for the daily menu which was great value and we enjoyed every bite. I had made a request with dessert as it was a milestone birthday and they executed it perfectly. Thank you very much and we'll be back if we're in Melbourne.
Delicious food. The heirloom tomatoes with anchovy dressing were the most delicious tomatoes I’ve had in Melbourne. The rum baba was another highlight. The wine was great and easily picked for us by the somme.
Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.
We were told the chefs selection only contained one seafood dish, where it contained three.
Lighting was too low.
Great menu and an excellent level of service. The Carlton Wine Room was outstanding
Great wine, food and service located at a tidy pocket off Drummond street.
This is a great neighborhood place; so good it attracts many from everywhere. The food is terrific, high quality presented in imaginative ways, there is a very good and interesting wine selection, and perhaps above all, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
The food, the ambience, the staff...everything was sensational
2nd time that I have dined here. Frist time was with clients and the next time was with family. Service is great. Wine list has some great producers and is quite different. Food is excellent. Can recommend.
Second visit, both times with friends, all very happy!
Classy food and service, highly recommended.
Really great food and the service was great, informative but not obtrusive. Jp’s food is simple and very very tasty. Anchovy and ricotta crostini, duck croquettes , kingfish crudo and Rum baba being the standouts. Was catching up with family and had a fantastic evening.
Very busy and buzzy dining room on a Saturday night which was great.
I’ll be back soon. With friends.
Thanks to all at Carlton Wine Room.
Always delicious food in a beautiful environment with lovely wines
We did the daily menu and it was excellent value for money, and really delicious. They did classics (like crispy skin roast chicken and taties) very well, and flavors complemented and did not jar, so overall we had a great meal. Service was attentive (our water glasses were never empty) and unobtrusive, music was however a tad loud (prob bc of the reverb off the wood floors). We will be back!
We dined at one of the private rooms with the $75 set menu. Plentiful of food, and the service was excellent 👌. Can’t recommend enough. Sophie was very helpful organising a dinner for 11 guests over the phone. Thanks very much to Sophie & the team! With several bottles of wine (Chardonnay & Shiraz) and some cocktails, it came down to around $100-125 per guests. A private dining room on a Saturday evening with such view, service and food & wine, I think it’s totally worth the experience. The lamb is not on the usual menu, but it was beautiful. Will have to come back for the set menu again, just for that lamb.
All the food was amazing, would recommend highly. Highlight of the dishes was the focaccia bread with cheese
Great chefs menu, gorgeous Victorian pet-nat and other very interesting wines. Generous portions for mains.
Great atmosphere, beautiful wine, a special place to take that special someone.
Funky little bar downstairs which, personally, is spoiled by the contemporary jazz background music and a classy restaurant on the first floor. We had outstanding food (the kingfish and chicken particularly good) and a great selection of wines. Service was exemplary. As good as any I’ve had. Great night out. Great atmosphere (upstairs). Loved it!
A really great meal (I love the sharing plates which mean you get to tast lots of different things) all complemented by really good service
Absolutely amazing food!
Amazing food and great looking restaurant tucked away in a quiet corner in Carlton. Wine selection is great too. Entrees and starters are much tastier than the mains. Service was adequate but not great. Glasses of wine were cleared from the table without offering if customers wanted another drink. Sommelier seemed annoyed that we asked about specials (as we didn’t know he was the sommelier). And we had to request to look at dessert menus as again, it was not offered when our mains were cleared.
Loved the menu choices, service was fast and friendly, generous portions and very good value. The anchovy fried toast was incredible!
Having been here a number of times, the wine list compiled by Travis never misses a beat, whilst the food is always great.
On this occasion, the service was a little bit off to start, but with a change of waiter to waitress it improved significantly.
Great tasty food and cocktails, really nice ambience.
Perfect for group or romantic dates.
Really friendly and knowledgeable staff, the food was simple and really well executed, I would go again without any hesitation.
