The Carlton Wine Room
Great venue, great service and great food. What more can you ask for?
We had a very enjoyable evening with fine food and wine.
It was, however, rather a hot night and the air conditioning was not up to it.
Noise level was also a little high...but we were a table of older people!
We will still be back...
so good! been wanting to try for a while & will DEFINITELY be back
Circular table and seats was perfect for s family get together with 6 people. Tasting menu was interesting and the perfect way to go for a group!
Food was outstanding. Great wines (as you’d expect) and service was great. Only small critical point was no diet/zero sugar soft drink. We had one diabetic, so that was a small issue.
I really enjoyed the food, wine and service at the Carlton Wine Room. I would recommend it to all my friends
Caught up with girlfriends and perfect for the occasion
Enjoyed our meal with 6 friends though the noise level made it hard to hear. Food and service was very good.
Delicious food and excellent service. Highly recommend
Had a marvellous dinner here on a Thursday night with a group of friends and my brother. There was a slight buzz about the place but it was by no means noisy and had a warm and energetic ambience. As we started to work through the smalls menu, I think we realised very quickly that you could really order anything from here and not be disappointed. We ended up trying a good portion of the entrees and appetisers and not a single dish was anything less then excellent. The duck and pork croquettes proved especially sublime to all's taste, as did the the silky and rich focaccia with mushroom and stracciatella, the cuttle fish - superb, kingfish - brilliant! Our only dissapointment was perhaps we did not even reach the mains or in fact try every entree/appetiser. Perhaps this was made up for but the fathoms of our wine selection, which proved excellent also. All night long, each wine could not be faulted and was carefully selected and catered exceptionally to all of our tastes.
All in all a flawless experience and eagerly looking forward to returning to try the other side of la carta.
Booked an early table thinking we would have a pre-dinner drink. When taking our orders we were offered the set menu but told in the same breath that we wouldn't have time to eat it as our table was pre-booked and would have to be vacated quickly. This had not been made clear at time of booking or I would have gone elsewhere.
While I appreciate that restaurants have two sittings to maximise turnover and profit, we felt rushed and pressured the entire time, which did not make for a pleasant dining experience especially at this expensive price point.
Food was nice but nothing amazing. Not good value and I would not recommend.
Had a lovely anniversary dinner there - I highly recommend it. The steak was one of the best I’ve had.
Delicious food. All dishes were lovely - particularly pasta and wagu beef. Highly recommend it!
This was our first visit since the refurb, we had stopped going because it was a little tired and not so great.
Now... WOW, it is really terrific, great fit out, comfortable seating, really terrific wait staff and the the food is excellent. We had a great time and we will be back.
Good meal but absolutely no atmosphere on a Friday lunch which was highly disappointing. We were one of 3 tables.
Service solid. Wine list good. Food nice.
If you want the best of the best you can’t go wrong here at CWR it’s my weekly spot as a local
They have the best staff
Interesting and delicious food and great attitude by staff make this a fun place to return again and again!
We had just the perfect night in Carlton Wine Room. The sommelier was extremely good, the food was so tasteful and te overall experience was unforgettable! Thanks to the whole crew!!
This is how a restaurant should be. Can talk, service you don’t notice it’s that good, value for money AND food was delicious and modern and filling.
Beautifully crafted food, fantastic service and lovely wait staff. We were very thrilled to travel all the way from Brisbane for this meal and we would again. Absolutely must do for anyone who’s a foodie.
Amazing food, great service and even better wines and recommendations from Travis
Thanks for an unforgettable birthday
Food and wine was great as was the service but ....they bought everything we ordered at the same time in an effort to quickly push us out the door in plenty of time for the next sitting.
outstanding food and impressive wine list. service was attentive but unobtrusive. Cannot fault this innovative, re imagining of a Carlton Classic! side note even the bread is fantastic, it is from Baker Bleu, need I say more!
Great wine selection which you expect given the name, staff very friendly and attentive. Food was good not amazing can tell the chef is trying things out of the box but with the wine I kind of wanted traditional flavour combinations although it's hard to please everyone, will definitely be back again loved it all!
amazing wine, amazing food, quality venue, awesome service
Another visit - another delightful meal, this time with a newbie who had not dined here before. She was as delighted with the discovery of great food, as I was to revisit it! We'll be back!
I'm still a bit nostalgic for the old decor, but the food has improved, I have to admit, and there are a few more options for vegetarians (though still not quite enough). I've been here twice in the last two weeks. Both times with set menus. The first, a Friday night, was almost ruined by totally inappropriate and overloud dance music. I can imagine that would be fun at 5.00 when restaurant staff are setting up, but by 7.00 or 8.00 when people are shouting at each other to be heard, it's just annoying and a bit of a disincentive. Second occasion was a smaller group in one of the round nooks. Very lovely for a group of five. Tasting menu was excellent value; the sommelier matched our wine perfectly (half glasses for tasting was so great) and music - though annoying - was not as intrusive.
An exceptional meal. Everything was the best version of itself - the briney-est oyster, the most flavourful chicken, the most vibrant broccolini, and so forth. The sommelier was outstanding; excellent recommendations to accompany the daily menu. It's quite relaxed and unfussy, yet with remarkable attention to detail and beautiful presentation. Highly recommended.
Once again a terrific experience from this freshly awarded venue. Awarded a hat by Age good food guide a few weeks ago plus Australian sommelier of the year 2018 for part owner Travis Howe prompted us for another look - just keeps getting better every time. Cannot wait for the new seasonal summer menu and incredible salads that go with it.
Fantastic food - loved everything
This is the best value for dollar in Melbourne for fine dining!! The small plate motif for the prix fixe dinner is perfection, as os the half glass per course wine pairing. I have had dozens of ‘chef’s menu’ dining experiences around the world, and this is near the top in terms of value for dollar.
Nice venue ; decor relaxed ; good booths
Interesting food ; A few more choices would be goid
Great food and excellent service. Wine knowledge was impressive.
Delicious food, incredible wines and great service.
Excellent meal, great service, knowledgeable staff. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. We hope to be back.
The food tasted extraordinary. You cannot expect better cooking of this kind anywhere.
Friendly service. Relaxing dining area.Staff knowledgeable on wine.
Menu range was good, food excellent, service good too
Rare find in Australia -waiting staff who anticipate and respond
