The Carlton Wine Room
The food, the ambience, the staff...everything was sensational
2nd time that I have dined here. Frist time was with clients and the next time was with family. Service is great. Wine list has some great producers and is quite different. Food is excellent. Can recommend.
Second visit, both times with friends, all very happy!
Classy food and service, highly recommended.
Really great food and the service was great, informative but not obtrusive. Jp’s food is simple and very very tasty. Anchovy and ricotta crostini, duck croquettes , kingfish crudo and Rum baba being the standouts. Was catching up with family and had a fantastic evening.
Very busy and buzzy dining room on a Saturday night which was great.
I’ll be back soon. With friends.
Thanks to all at Carlton Wine Room.
Always delicious food in a beautiful environment with lovely wines
We did the daily menu and it was excellent value for money, and really delicious. They did classics (like crispy skin roast chicken and taties) very well, and flavors complemented and did not jar, so overall we had a great meal. Service was attentive (our water glasses were never empty) and unobtrusive, music was however a tad loud (prob bc of the reverb off the wood floors). We will be back!
We dined at one of the private rooms with the $75 set menu. Plentiful of food, and the service was excellent 👌. Can’t recommend enough. Sophie was very helpful organising a dinner for 11 guests over the phone. Thanks very much to Sophie & the team! With several bottles of wine (Chardonnay & Shiraz) and some cocktails, it came down to around $100-125 per guests. A private dining room on a Saturday evening with such view, service and food & wine, I think it’s totally worth the experience. The lamb is not on the usual menu, but it was beautiful. Will have to come back for the set menu again, just for that lamb.
All the food was amazing, would recommend highly. Highlight of the dishes was the focaccia bread with cheese
Great chefs menu, gorgeous Victorian pet-nat and other very interesting wines. Generous portions for mains.
Great atmosphere, beautiful wine, a special place to take that special someone.
Funky little bar downstairs which, personally, is spoiled by the contemporary jazz background music and a classy restaurant on the first floor. We had outstanding food (the kingfish and chicken particularly good) and a great selection of wines. Service was exemplary. As good as any I’ve had. Great night out. Great atmosphere (upstairs). Loved it!
A really great meal (I love the sharing plates which mean you get to tast lots of different things) all complemented by really good service
Absolutely amazing food!
Amazing food and great looking restaurant tucked away in a quiet corner in Carlton. Wine selection is great too. Entrees and starters are much tastier than the mains. Service was adequate but not great. Glasses of wine were cleared from the table without offering if customers wanted another drink. Sommelier seemed annoyed that we asked about specials (as we didn’t know he was the sommelier). And we had to request to look at dessert menus as again, it was not offered when our mains were cleared.
Loved the menu choices, service was fast and friendly, generous portions and very good value. The anchovy fried toast was incredible!
Having been here a number of times, the wine list compiled by Travis never misses a beat, whilst the food is always great.
On this occasion, the service was a little bit off to start, but with a change of waiter to waitress it improved significantly.
Great tasty food and cocktails, really nice ambience.
Perfect for group or romantic dates.
Really friendly and knowledgeable staff, the food was simple and really well executed, I would go again without any hesitation.
Hot stuffy room with elevator music blaring out.
Very pretentious wine waiter - rapidly became apparent he knew very very little about anything. Served flat champagne whilst snootily commenting that the wine room avoids the use of flutes. Sent back. Most of the wine list unavailable. Also failed to actually offer the wine to be tasted just slopped it into the glass. Food unpalatable to average.
Fantastic menu and lovely service made for a great evening. Would definitely go back
It was a very pleasant evening and the food and service was good.
We enjoyed our experience here however we we’re seated upstairs and it was very warm and noisy . There was an air conditioning unit though it wasn’t being used .
We would only sit downstairs in future .
The CWR does everything on point in every aspect of it's hospitality, food and wine. It's always a pleasure and will be back again sometime soon!
Great service! Travis and his team are very professional, they clearly enjoy and take pride in what they do. Food is delicious and the wines are different, interesting and perfectly matched to their menu.
Will keep coming back, at least every season!
Well done guys and THANK YOU!
Food delish & service impeccable. Nice not to be rushed out at 2hour seating mark.
CWR we weren’t that impressed. The wine was very good. Food was passable. We had anchovy, croquettes, kingfish tartare, broccoli with pork, mussels and tripe and cuttlefish gratin (which was revolting and we couldn’t eat). It’s more of a casual vibe. More suitable for a lunchtime. Sat upstairs so not as much vibe as front bar/street level. Would only go back for a casual drink/bite. Not the place for a special occasion.
Loved the food and the staff, we were given a voucher for Christmas by my brother and his wife, and are looking forward to bringing them with us soon
We went for a casual lunch with o/s visitors ( and we are from WA) and are full of praise for the food and service. Wait staff helpful and knowledgeable and every dish ordered was a delight of flavour and presentation. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
Carlton does it! turns an, at first, uninspiring (not much around) location into a 'must go' haven of gastronomy and fine wine.Downstairs a casual bar top, upstairs a crisp, clean dining room: all cool sage and copper, attentive table service from friendly giants, creative sharing-menu just the right side of fancy, impressive complimentary tastes and textures without flim-flam.. across all six courses. Impressive and oh so professionally handled. Simple ingredients confidently perfected in tasty dishes...and then there's a wine list, what a wine list!! Excellent by the glass selection too, vermouth and warm advice from an extremely cheerful wine-guy great, very personal selection of local and European gems. Lots of real care has gone into this place, people who like what they're doing and deliver!. It feels good to be there, hope it'll run and run.
Second time I have been here. Just as out standing as the first time. The wine list is cracking and the Somm is a really lovely bloke who will talk you though it all. Let him pick for you. The wait staff are great the woman who looked after us was fantastic. Anchovies on on bread, the croquettes (like french katsu croquette?), rump cap and the fish are all great.
Wine was great. Service also good but not overly chilled and friendly perhaps friendly but smug. Food was all prepared well and nice but not exceptional or overwhelmed to be honest. Was expecting more. When the bill came we did think it was very good value however when including the drinks too.
Start to end was amazing experience that i will remember it for good. Best of best there. Thank very much for great food and wine not to mention “caring us”
Honestly the best meal I’ve had in Melbourne. Fantastic, relaxed service. And I’d pay nearly twice this for a similar meal in the States. Stunning night.
An excellent knowledge staff help to create a relaxed and enjoyable ambiance supported by wonderful food and wines.
Great venue, great service and great food. What more can you ask for?
Wine was amazing - the list is extensive so having a sommelier to help navigate was great! Service was prompt, friendly and professional with each dish well explained and any questions readily answered.
Each dish was incredible - we especially loved grilled pork chop and the corn (genius!).
We had a very enjoyable evening with fine food and wine.
It was, however, rather a hot night and the air conditioning was not up to it.
Noise level was also a little high...but we were a table of older people!
We will still be back...
so good! been wanting to try for a while & will DEFINITELY be back
Circular table and seats was perfect for s family get together with 6 people. Tasting menu was interesting and the perfect way to go for a group!
