Food was terrible. Couldn’t even bite through pastrami.
Good dependable place to eat before theater. Food is good but not inexpensive. At my last visit there the background music was very loud and it was hard to talk.
Good food-nothing outstanding but no complaints. We had breakfast They were out of vanilla egg creams. Service was average. I’d go back for lunch or dinner but not in a rush to do so.
The service was extremely slow. The food was good but not worth the extremely high price. I get it, it’s near Times Square, but still.
Will start out by saying that you are paying their rent for a very prime location in tourist town. Prices are double what are at other great diners in nyc. Portions were small and service was horrible. Nice server but overworked. take a cab or walk few blocks over to 9th ave and find way better, more local selections.
really enjoy this restaurant for pre-theatre on matinee days-food is good and location is great!
This is always a favorite staple when going to the theatre. The food is good and the prices are not extragant.
Great burger and the most amazing blackout cake! Server was very nice. We will be back.
This place never disappoints! Service is always great, despite being busy most of the time. This time I had the eggs baked in challah bread, with pomodoro sauce, peppers and onions, with house made Italian sausage patties. The one disappointment was one sausage patty was overcooked to the point of being tough and hard...but not a major thing as the plate was extremely filling anyway.
Love coming here when visiting NYC. A consistent dining experience with great food every single time.
My kids enjoyed the appearance of the diner inside. I felt it was very overpriced. Over $200 for a family of 5 (we had a total of 4 alcoholic drinks) seems like we over spent. They also did not have a kids menu, forcing us to have the kids order off the adult menu for food that was not eaten. Also, as vegetarian, there were very limited options. It was close to our theater and the staff was friendly. The food was average.
Our service was pretty awful, the food was merely satisfactory. Nothing special, nothing extraordinary. Life is too short to eat mediocre meals.
Food was excellent. Best chicken soup I have ever had. Will visit again.
This is one of my go-to places before a show. Food has always been surprisingly good. This time, I opted for the $22 hot dog. Damn, it was good! Very large, juicy dog on a toasted bun with sauerkraut. Perfect. The fries were limp and lackluster, but the hot dog was so delicious, that is all I wanted. My partner got the chicken pot pie. It was huge with a high rise flaky crust and nice chunks of chicken. Also very very good.
This time, I have to say, the service was quite lacking :( Usually extremely efficient and friendly staff, but this time we had a guy we rarely saw; we had to wave him down a couple of times. Not a smile, not attentive, not a glimpse of a personality. I hope they coach their staff, eh, everyone has a bad day...
Regardless, we'll be back!
The wait staff is so friendly and kind, we always look forward to that when we visit.
Very nice place to eat. Wait staff were very kind. Even gave me suggestions for my autistic son when I told him he has limited food items he will eat. My son had the grilled cheese and loved it! I had a burger and it was very good! Prices under $30 a plate and a good value compared to some of the whole in the walls.
Pleasant efficient waiter, food for each of us was good , quiet
Excellent ambiance and service! Great location. Hamburger was extremely good, but my friend who got the veggie burger didn’t like it compared to other alternative meat burgers.
Some contributers have been quite harsh, but in all honesty, I can't fault the place. I recently visited on a short stay in NY with my sons and wife, to celebrate her 60th. The food was great, the service was great, the ambience was great. I had hyjacked the meeter and greeter, and only given him 30 notice of my wife's birthday, but he was able to give her a free slice of cake....nice touch, guys.
Merely "OK". They honored our Open Table reservation right away. The food was not as good as typical NY diner food. My guest had a cheddar burger, which he stated was good. I ordered the Pea Soup which was definitely not as good as I expected it to be and a grilled cheese sandwich which also seemed unlike a traditional normal grilled cheese sandwich. I'm not even sure if it was real cheese on the thick bread that seem to be open toasted and melted upon it. The fries had a bunch of Rosemary thrown on it which made them a little bit weird. Overall the service was a bit slow. The waiter was very nice though. Definitely won't be back. It was $52 for a burger a shake and a grilled cheese sandwich. The waiter was nice enough to remove the pea soup from the bill since it was uneaten except for a spoon or two, to try. Overall I was very disappointed. Like I said, definitely the first and last time I will enter this restaurant for any reason. The best part was the bathroom which had nice soaps, mouthwash and plenty of towels and toilet paper.
The food was good. My friend had a chicken pot pie that was a site to behold regarding size. The service was a bit slow as they seemed short-staffed.
Pastrami was out of this world. They were out of fries and ice cream. Our server was not having a good night and it showed. Two other servers got into a pretty intense verbal altercation. Manager was extremely nice and tried to pick up the slack. I’d give it another try just for that Reuben.
Food was good but service was terrible.
Met with friends that were visiting from Maine. Thought they should have a quintessential NY diner experience. This restaurant did not disappoint, friendly and timely service, great options, great guidance, great food great time had by all.
The Diner is a gold mine. The food was delicious. My chicken pot pie the best ever and the staff could not have been more friendly. Would definitely recommend and looking forward to going back.
Always an excellent experience! We notice the same employees over the last few years which speaks volumes about management.
Food quality unappealing.
Had no flavor and hamburger was dry. Tables are right ontop of each other, no privacy and cannot have any type of conversation. As you could mit hear each other.
The prices were outrageous. $74 for a hamburger, a sandwich, 2 sodas and a egg cream.
Will not be returning EVER!
It was just average. Food was so so even with a limited menu. Service slow. Won’t go back
Love this place and will always come back. Food is delish, fast service, and overall super convenient especially for the theater district.
Great service and fun waiter! Really glad we visited!
As usual brunch / breakfast was terrific. Great
Food and service.
Not a lot of variety on the menu and the food was average. I ordered a bagel sandwich that was bland and not what I would expect from a NYC diner.
Bad waitress, had to remind and request for silverware, refills. The blueberry pancakes were good.
The food was a very poor standard. Far to much salt and basic errors made throughout the food. There was to much hummus for the pitta and carrots, the chicken burger was minced chicken with salt cooked on a flat top and so thin, disgusting. The pastrami on rye was disappointing as the meat was salty and the bread tasted old and hard despite being toasted. To share an appetizer, 2 entres and 1 beer the bill without a tip came to over £70.
It was terrible food, over priced for what we got but good service.
Took the family for our first meal in New York City and had a great experience. Our waiter was very nice and even brought us a couple of beers on the house that they had poured for someone else by mistake. Food was tasty and while the noise level was high, for a New York restaurant it didn’t disappoint.
Kinda Meh - not horrible, not great. A restaurant searching for identity. A true diner...relic of a previous era
very good ambience. not very expensive. good service
First time I have been there in a very long time and I found the service to be attentive and the food good. I had a chicken parm which was tasty and of good size. All the entrees at the table looked good.
Water was shut off towards the end of our meal. Couldn’t get water refills. Other than that it was good.
Service was not great monday night, everything else was great
Went here for the first time with a friend prior to our Broadway show. We were pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and the service. We had special requests that were honored with no problem. The drinks were a bit on the pricier side, but equal to competing venues. I had a cheeseburger with no bun, and wished I had more fries, BUT that is always, so nothing to do with the venue itself. I would definitely return.
