The Bocuse Restaurant at The Culinary Institute of America
While Bocuse is part of a school, and the food preparation and service is by students, that is one of its charms. The food was outstanding, with all top shelf ingredients, and an attention to detail which is hard to find elsewhere. The facility is beautiful and they know how to address the guests requests. I highly recommend visiting the Culinary Institute for a fantastic meal, as well as an wonderful opportunity to meet the next generation of great chefs.
Great food and fantastic service. We will definitely go back.
I have had lunch at the CIA many times and this was the first time that my friend and I felt as if we
were being rushed, although there were many tables for two available. We especially did not like
having my entree' plate removed by a man in a suit, not a student, before my friend was finished.
Beyond expectation. The Beef wagyu might be the best I ever had. The balance of the dish is perfect. Dessert also delicious.
We were a group of four; the hostess originally sat us at a round table for six (a bad choice). There were plenty of empty square table for four, many of which remained empty throughout the evening. Conversation across the table was difficult if not impossible. We asked to be moved to a table for four, and were. Food was just OK and not very "French" at all. My wife ordered the lamb/pasta dish, which had to be sent back as someone forgot to put lamb. The plating seemed overly pretentious. The wine list on the iPad was very confusing, even to our server, who had to call another more knowledgeable person over to help. Because of poor communication, a second desert was attempted to be served (belonged to the next table) after we had already had our deserts. I think the overall problem here maybe that the students in charge had recently started their schooling and were still green. We had been to your American restaurant last spring during restaurant week, the food was great, the service fine. Will come again in the spring but never in the fall.
We were looking forward to a nice meal at the Bocuse Restaurant to celebrate a birthday; and we weren't disappointed. The service was cordial. And we cleaned our plates with every course. The policy of three courses at a fixed price makes this place a relative bargain. I cannot think of a classier dining experience in the entire region. Looking forward to return visits.
Bocuse is a beautiful restaurant, excellent menu, excellent food & service.
Everything was great EXCEPT the size of the duck breast portion, 4 small pieces on one side of the plate and a few vegetables on the other side of the plate.... they put a sauce in the middle but the portion and presentation very definitely not representative of Bocuse. We asked the maître d'' to let the executive chef know. We have had duck before at Bocuse and it was nothing like that.
Food was not hot when served. Bread needs to be warmed before serving. Too much salt on many items. Desserts too rich. Should have dress code enforced.
Food was mediocre at best, arrived completely cold. Wrong dish was brought to the table.

Excellent food and service. Always a wonderfull meal
Dinner date with my wife. We have been there before and haven’t been disappointed yet (not that we expect to be). The service was great and the food was exquisite.
Excellent, just excellent. nothing more to say. the student were totally up it. food and service was wonderful. to be repeated!
Birthday! Wonderful host and student waiters for excellent and enthusiastic service! We had a seat looking into the kitchen and enjoyed watching the students learn.
We had a wonderful meal at The Bocuse Restaurant. Everything was done extremely well. Would definitely recommend.
Exquisite restaurant. Architecturally and design wise beautiful. The food is well prepared and presented. It’s not often one can have their taste buds danced upon with merriment. The students are a joy although they could use better training in the service area. However their enthusiasm makes up for their short coming..
Every bit of food is a wonderful experience. Perfect.
The food as always, sublime. Flame beet starter was rich with cheese triangles, figs, mandarin sections. Duck breast was suitably rosy pink, crisp skinned. The dessert of molten chocolate cake was tiny, beautiful, and perfectly done with an egg shaped ball of vanilla ice cream which seemed to float over the caramel. Really did look like a shelled hard boiled quail egg.
The atmosphere was wonderfully quiet for this restaurant. Service was enthusiastic and cheerful. We always love seeing the students working hard on their professional personae.
We did however, miss our favorite maitre d'/instructor. He makes the dining room move effortlessly, with service impeccably professional. Still, a lovely experience with great food.
Amazing service and beautiful, delicious food
Highly recommend for a special occasion
Truly worth the 2 hour trip from Nassau County Long Island. Food was delicious, looked great, plated perfectly. All in value was outstanding and memorable.
The food, service & ambiance is just absolutely excellent!
The fixed price lunch deal is a wonderful bargain. The food is top notch
As always the food was very good and there is a very good selection of wine. Service is good but the server was not relaxed; affect was tentative and overly reserved. The person who receives you should greet and welcome you to the restaurant. These are students so perhaps this feedback will be shared for growth. The setting is lovely and any questions or concerns are addressed immediately. We enjoyed the evening and will return.
Twenty percent surcharge uncalled for. At most ten percent. Menu choices were too few and portions too small, especially since pricing somewhat high. However, it was fun supporting the students and seeing campus.
Great food, staff at generous prices. Will definitely return!
The dining experience at CIA is superb. Bocuse has an open kitchen set up and we loved watching the students work their magic. Food was DELISH - Have already been to American Bounty and next will be to try the Italian restaurant.
This restaurant is superb in every way. It is exactly what you would expect at the Culinary Institute of America:
Delicious food, exquisite service and lovely location.
I have really enjoyed every experience at the CIA. Even with student chefs and servers, it is outstanding!
From the moment you walk in, the service was impeccable. The cocktails were a perfect start to the evening. The steak and fish dish where made to perfection. i cannot wait to go back.
The restaurant is a classroom, both for the kitchen and the wait staff, therefore we believe it should not charge market rates for its food.
The level of service was poor. All of the waiters/resses seemed petrified with fear, which does not create good service or a pleasant ambiance. One waitress was wearing scent and could not pronounce the names of the food. None checked to see if anything was wanted after quickly depositing a plate on the table and running away.
The food was uneven. Some of it over spiced, over salted. Medium rare came out rare. The entree portions were strangely out of scale with each other: pasta and lamb quite stingy, while fancy wagyu beef generous. The same level of intimidation probably prevails in the kitchen.
Had 3-course dinner for $45 per person. 1st course - black truffle soup. 2nd course - market fish, black-stripe bass, and beaf wagyu- outstanding!!! Table-made ice cream and sample-sized assorted deserts. Our favorite place to come. This is the only place around to eat something unique.
Service was very attentive and we didn’t have to ask for anything. The staff was very friendly and it was wonderful to have people, who are passionate about their careers, take an interest in their guests.
The dining room was tastefully decorated and the open concept kitchen was an added perk.
One of the best restaurants at the CIA.. The food as fantastic and our server friendly ,we’ll informed,as well as genuinely interested in her job. I would strongly recommend giving it a try.
My husband and I went to The Bocuse to celebrate our Anniversary and we couldn’t be happier with everything. We will definitely be coming back
Food very good and beautifully presented. However, there were bread and butter plates but no bread served. Service haphazard which detracted from the dining experience.
The Culinary Institute is a fascinating place to visit, and it is really amazing to see such very young people taking on the challenging tasks involved in running a first-rate restaurant with such assurance and skill. Everything about the experience was thoroughly delightful, the only regret is that it wasn't possible to come back and visit CIA's other restaurants!
It is irritating to have a large gratuity tacked on without any opt out ability. Our servor was not trained and quite inadequate. Irked to be surcharged for his uniform. He wasn't material for dining room.
I love this place! What else could I say! Just eat here!!
We have been to Bocuse several times and while the meal was delicious as always, we were a little disappointed in the experience. Our waiter was pleasant and answered all of our questions efficiently and with a smile. He offered nothing more than we asked and seemed nervous. We understand that he could have been quite new, but there was no other supervisory staff checking in with him or us. In other visits, we were wowed by the staff and made to feel special. The whole experience has always been an exceptional day for us. This was a special Christmas gift that was a rather ordinary dining experience.
We look forward to not just the food- but also to the excitement and enthusiasm of the eager students and supervisors. This time, it was, as I said before, ordinary.
We will return and hope that this was a one time disappointing visit.
Such a great experience, every time we come. You simply can't go wrong with the 3 course prixe fix menu. The dishes are so delicious and unique. Definitely worth the drive up from NYC.
Supervised by faculty chefs, students cook and serve at this French restaurant named after chef Paul Bocuse. In the half dozen times I have eaten there, the food has been excellent and the service less so but still good. After all, I'm sure most students want to become great chefs more than great waiters. It's a good value if you order off the prix fixe menu. Excellent wine list, as you'd expect. 👍👍👍👍👍
