The Boat House Bistro
The Head Chef and his team use the finest local ingredients, including freshly caught trout from the reservoir to produce mouth-watering dishes every Saturday and Sunday.
Offering nautical theming and unparalleled views, the beauty of Bewl Water reservoir and nature reserve take centre stage whilst you relax and enjoy a glass wine on The Terrace or a delicious meal in The Boat House.
Need to book at 7:00 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
The venue is great, looking out over the water with the sun setting, very relaxing. What is not so relaxing is the service, the attention to detail is awful. Our main course was delivered and the waiter stated he would now bring our vegetables, we then witnessed him taking drinks orders from other tables and talking to others. By the time we had attracted his attention another (much more efficient) waiter had seen this and brought the vegetables, during this time the plates our main course were on were now cold and the beef I had ordered was too.
It’s a shame because this should be a top place to eat if only they could sort out the service.
Excellent in every way. Now there’s an extra choice on the friday menu it’s even better
Sunday lunch with friends, delicious menu with good choices and excellent value. Staff attentive and courteous.
It was my mum’s 87th birthday and she felt completely spoilt. Thank you. We will return.
We booked a table for 3.15pm, we were asked what we would like to drink and order at 3.50pm. We had been sat for 35 minutes before we had any service. The waiter brought 3 of the 5 drinks ordered after another half hour of waiting. We had to wait another 15 minutes for the other 2 drinks. A jug of water was placed on the table but no glasses, we waited patiently for these that came after all the drinks were served.
Two of four meals came out, the other two we had to wait 5 minutes for and then another 5 minutes for the vegetables to arrive for us all.
It took me to go to the bar twice to receive the bill. I had asked and told it would come to the table, we waited 10 minutes for it and eventually I went to the bar and paid.
We left the restaurant 2 hours after arriving. We only booked for a late lunch. Awful never again.
Great food from a very well thought out seasonal menu, compliments to the Chefs. The service however let it down somewhat due to inattentive staff and the final nail in the coffin at the end of our meal a dismissal by our waitress due to an attempt to pay by American Express, what kind of restaurant in this bracket limits payment methods to Visa and Mastercard only. Sadly we won't be back for this reason.
Lovely location - wider menu would be nice on a fri
The service was quite attentive and friendly. Sunday roast as good as ever.
Absolutely stunning views
Food was fantastic
Will definitely be going again
Thank you for a very special Sunday lunch
Fantastic food although it seems strange having a 2 or 3 course meal at lunchtime on a Saturday. It would be nice if they did lighter lunches but still the same quality. The smoked salmon starter was huge and delicious. The restaurant was very quiet so lacked any ambience, such a shame as such a lovely restaurant.
Food, service, value, atmosphere were all good but the continuing difficulty of access for a wheelchair user does detract from the overall experience.
It need not be difficult or expensive to improve this aspect of the Bistro. This point has been raised before and it is disappointing that no effort appears to have been made to put things right.
Fantastic place to eat, food was amazing, extremely well priced considering the quality of the food, not only on taste but on presentation. It was like being in central london paying £500 for a meal each. Superb, will definitely go again.
Lovely setting and short but tasty menu. Good value for money and nice place for Sunday lunch.
The staff were polite and sparodically attentive. They were very young and most appeared to be, being trained on the job. The starters and desserts were really good, but the roast was flooded with gravy, without choice and the roast potatoes were inedible. The building is lovely with a fantastic view, everything was clean and smart. I would like to go again to see if it was an off day, however as it was Father's Day, I would hope they would be at their best....
The restaurant had NO prior notice we had booked lucky they set a table , not the service I expected from Open table.
Excellent service , excellent food , fantastic views. Clean , great atmosphere. Would highly recommend and 100% going back
A beautiful location with fantastic views across the reservoir. We went on a Sunday and the menu is small but choice was good and all dishes were very well executed and very tasty. Value very good also.
Stunning views, delicious Roast dinner, great service.
Excellent, on everything
Fantastic place to eat so tranquil, great service and great view. Defiantly recommend. You always go for a walk afterwards also - all in all offers so much!
Would recommend to others but not on a Friday. Website is ambiguous; I assumed that Fish and chips (if that is what you want!) is only available on Fridays and no other day. In reality FnC is the only thing you can have on Fridays. No starters available and only 1 dessert. We had the fish which was fine but went to Scotney castle for dessert. Lovely setting, great views and nice venue, so will return but not on a Friday, to try out Sunday roast set menu. Hopefully, will not be disappointed next time.
Lunch with friends for my husband's birthday. Outlook was delightful, plenty of windows giving a good view of water. Light , contemporary style restaurant, nice ambience . The food was delicious and well presented. The staff were a credit to the restaurant. Very pleasant and "on the ball" . Would definitely return.
We had the Friday single choice fish and chip lunch which was well cooked and presented, really enjoyable

Delightful venue; good food and excellent service. Our lunch was taking an elderly lady for a birthday treat - she has limited mobility - the Boat House Bistro was ideal for her.

Whilst we were disappointed it turned out to be fish Friday (not clear when booking) this was put right & we enjoyed our lunch. The views are stunning, great service & the food was great. Would definitely go again but recommend anyone going looks closely at the menu's available for each day before doing so.
Dear JulieG, Thank you for taking the time to leave The Boat House Bistro a review following your recent visit. I am sorry that you were unaware of Fish Friday, I am delighted that you still enjoyed your lunch overlooking the stunning reservoir. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Once again the Sunday lunch was really excellent and could not be faulted. Service was quick and friendly and the red cabbage served with the beef so good we asked for another portion which arrived straight away.
Beautiful location although you do feel as if you are eating in a venue rather than a bistro. We were served by young people who didn’t have a great passion about their job and were quite uninspired about the food. The fish and chips was adequate, nothing particularly special. We were never asked if we were ok, or if we’d like any desert or more drinks. We are local and probably wouldn’t rave about it to our neighbourhood.
It was lovely but I specifically asked before I went about disabled access for my father in a wheelchair and was told it was wheelchair accessible, but when we arrived there was a slight step to go up and we couldn’t get the wheelchair up so he had to get out his chair while we lifted it over. I wasn’t very happy.
Super sunday luncheon out for my mum on her 91st birthday

Excellent food in a lovely relaxed environment
We went there for the Fish and Chip lunch with friends, never been before at this day or time. It was fantastic and we will be most definitely will be returning soon.
A great location, good food ,service could of been a bit more attentive at times having said that will definitely be coming again.
Second visit to The Boat House Bistro and just as good as the first. Beautiful views over Bewl Water with an outdoor terrace for Spring/Summer. Really pleasant decor, very attentive staff, tables sensibly space apart so lots of room. Excellent Sunday roast each time. Well recommend it.

I would recommend it for the view and the style of building.
However two of us had roast beef it was tough, we could not cut it even with a steak knife which we had to ask for.
Dear Gordie, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am delighted to learn that you loved the view and the building style. I am so sorry that the roast beef was not up to your expectations and I can ensure you that I have passed this on to the management team at The Boat House Bistro. We look forward to welcoming you back. Kind Regards, The Boat House Bistro.
Super lunch, great food and wonderful setting. Chef added some extra snacks at no extra cost - shame there was no draught ale/lager.

Lovely, welcoming atmosphere and super views. Food excellent and very generous helpings on the kids menu, which was proper food, not the usual processed rubbish.

Service was very good and the staff were welcoming and friendly. It is a boat house so the ambience is a little plain but the view on a sunny day was awesome

We love coming back to this restaurant - this is my favourite restaurant for Sunday lunches because they can go on for the whole afternoon! Leisurly pre-lunch drinks on the balcony over looking Bewl and enjoying the sunshine and the fresh air. The staff are warm and friendly (and are all local to Lamberhurst and so are knowledgable of the area) and there is plenty of them to look after you, and they are very polite and welcoming. The menu is quite small but beautifully chosen so that for a Sunday lunch you have two different roasts, fish, chicken or vegetarian. I would prefer a small menu which is perfectly cooked and prepared rather than an extensive menu from the freezer. Served with the winter vegetables which are nice and crunchy! That's why I return time and time again with my friends - it feels like an extension of my own dining room.
