The Blackwall Barn and Lodge
love the place the bartender and jenna made us feel at home .. great job
My husband and I went fir our 15yr wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect
Very professional staff and if you're seated in the right section it makes for a pleasant dining experience. Food was great but they didn't have several of the requested desserts available. I would return and recommend.
Great Atmosphere and Great Food, very Classy yet relaxed. Usually all food I have had from here is out of this world but last night the special Filet Migneon was not as tender as usual and the truffle topping was just ok. The sides Parmesan Potatoes and Asparagus were delicious. Also the steak seemed a little overpriced last night as well. This won't stop me from returning as every other time I have been there the food is awesome! My Favorites there are the Crab Cake & the Chesapeake Pasta. Overall always a good choice!
Overall outstanding location and service! Food is bland and filet special tasted of heavy char.
Love the ambience! Service excellent. Food is very good to excellent depending on selection. My only criticism is the need for a lunch menu or a note in the regular menu indicating which items are NOT available for lunch, or some other alternative to eliminate disappointment. I chose my lunch selections (mouth watering while waiting to place my order 😊) only to find out those selections were only available for dinner. 😞
Thanks for soliciting feedback and for providing a very good dining experience.
I've been trying to get a reservation at this restaurant ever since I saw it on Bay Weekly. I had to reserve a day in advance. We loved the place from the ambience, the decor and the food. My husband ordered the Chesapeake pasta and he says it was very tasty. He can be picky, so this faint praise. I had the rockfish special. It needs a bit of salt and perhaps something fresh to counter the savoriness a bit, perhaps a tomato or cucumber salad. The fish was cooked well and the mushrooms were oozing umami. But the potatoes are a little clunky and the overall color is brown. Oh yes, the starters were good, too. I had the Haloumi and watermelon. Perfect combination. My husband had the Flaming Crab dip. Dramatic and good, but not the best we've had. We ended the meal with the warm bread pudding and coffee. Nice ending to a nice meal.
Brunch was delicious. The home fried potatoes were undone. The deviled eggs were ok. The waffles were either too soft or too hard. But the flavor was delicious. The leg of lamb, salmon, shrimp, ham, bacon, sausage was very good. The grits were tasty but a little thick. The omelet station rocks. The chocolate donuts and coffee was good as well. Fresh fruit and salad.
Was a very convenient location and food was very good
Been there before and enjoyed it, but this time, it was awful. The charcuterie board for $19 contained items that you could get at the grocery store for $4. Cheddar cubes, mozzarella balls, a little prosciutto, some Brie and canned peanuts.
My wife’s halibut was over cooked and dry. My shrimp and scallops risotto for $28 had 3 scallops and 4 shrimp and he risotto was under cooked. Everything was extremely overpriced for the quality and portions. They rely heavily on sauces to cover up mediocre quality food in attempt to be upscale. The service, which in all honesty has been great in the past, was spotty. Our server was greeted us and then took a long time getting back to get our drink order. When she did come back, she reeked of cigarettes. So we sit with no drinks and no service while she takes a smoke break.
I’ll give it another try only because it’s been better previously, but it was a disappointing and underwhelming experience for my wife and I’s hard to come by date night.
Truly a hidden gem. The atmosphere and decor are beautiful. This is my 2nd time visiting and the service is very good. I've tried multiple things on the menu including the fried green tomatoes, salmon and kale salad, and sea bass, all were delicious and tasty. The only complaint, the last visit they ran out of calamari! Other than that, I find it the perfect setting for a romantic date, family gathering or business meeting. I will be back again.
Way too expensive. $12 cocktails, $35 entrees
It was our first time there. We made reservations and they walked us all the way through the restaurant (where we passed many open tables) to outside where it was raining and cold. There were no other parties under the tent and they stuck us in the very back corner. First, I was wondering if it had to do anything with the fact that we were lesbians (which I don’t get that feeling often but Friday night I did) and second who in their right mind would sit guests outside in a tent that didn’t have all of its sides down when it was 60 degrees and the mat they had for the floor was soaking wet where you were stepping in puddles to get to the table. They never asked if we wanted to eat outside and when I had made reservations I picked standard seating when there also was an outside seating option. We had to request to be moved inside which to me was common sense but was very disappointed how it went down. After that debacle we enjoyed our time.
Always enjoy coming here. My only suggestion is that I wish I knew the cost of the specials prior to ordering.
I enjoyed my lunch with girlfriends. I have no complaints. We're already planning to return for other items on the menu we want to try. The Duck fat fries are everything
I highly recommend this restaurant weather it's a first date or taking mom out. The food and service is great.
Awesome experience and atmosphere for a great dining experience. The entrees were succulent and tender (Prime Ribs). The portions were enough for 2 meals couldn't eat the whole meal. The service and servers are always on point. One of my favorites.
It was our wedding anniversary.
The fish had bones that I almost choked on, they replaced it with another fish dish that was over cooked. The sides were an orzo salad and a corn mix. Both were inedible.
I ordered a raspberry iced tea off the bottomless menu for $3.75 and ordered refills. The waiter charged us for a specialty drink @$8 each including refills. I’m not sure if he was the only waiter in the whole place that night because we barely saw him. We were waiting a long time for EVERYTHING. Even the biscuits took half an hour. By the time we asked for them. they said they would be 10 more minutes.
We live a couple miles away and have been here before. Until tonight, it was one of my favorites, but not sure what the issue was this evening. I wish it wasn’t a special occasion. That just amplified my disappointment.
Octavio was a superb server!!!!
I came to the restaurant for my birthday dinner with my significant other. Overall, I had a wonderful time. The service was good and our food was hot and delicious. I ordered the Chesapeake Pasta and my boyfriend got the Crab Cake entree. We shared the crab dip as an appetizer, which was very good. We opted to not order dessert due to the generous portions offered for dinner. The noise level was very quiet, we were seated in the back area of the restaurant, which offered a nice romantic atmosphere. Highly recommend to visit for a date night.
Was disappointed in the Sunday brunch buffet. The quality of food was fair at best. Our first visit to the buffet line we discovered, over cooked grits, waffles, fried chicken (what little there was), and bacon (broken into small pieces). No scrambled eggs on the buffet. Just an omelet station that had a long line initially. Mimosas were flat.
Our second visit to the buffet line the food had been replenished. While it was better, it was still fair in terms of quality. The waffles weren't overcooked, the chicken was still overcooked on the outside (a sign that their grease was too hot), the bacon was different this time, full strips and tender. However, we think it was pepper bacon, which didn't bother us, but a little surprising to see it on a buffet and that not be noted.
The omelet station was fine. The carving station looked fine, but the roast beef looked pretty rare.
Our server was the best part of the experience. He was attentive. When we mentioned that the mimosas were flat, he immediately offered to bring us small carafes of champagne. We later asked for cranberry juice as well, and he had not issue with providing that to us. He brought more champagne as well.
The restaurant is nice. The placement of the omelet and carving station is too close to the front entry. We literally walked into people waiting in line. The reception staff seemed at bit confused. When shown to our table the young lady that walked us there, explained the buffet and menu option, but she seemed unsure in her delivery. The server, did a much better job.
This place is owned by the same company that operates Blackwall Hitch in Annapolis. From the website it seemed they offered the same type of brunch with some minor difference. We've never had a complaint about Blackwall Hitch in Annapolis. They offer more of a variety of foods, the quality is better and the overall staff is better. We were disappointed in Blackwall Barn and Lodge. Probably won't return.
Good food and ambiance. Will return and recommend.
We found the place by accident and were pleasantly surprised. Great food! The sea bass in particular was outstanding. We’ll be back.
While they were a little late seating us, they more than made up with excellent service and delectable food and presentation.
I’m always impressed by the customer service at Blackwell Barn. The food is excellent! The staff is friendly...
The ambience was not to my liking but fit its name.
Beautiful restaurant. Easy and plentiful parking. Wide variety of drink and food options. The food is just okay at best. Beautiful presentations but so bland. The crab dip had so much cream cheese I couldn’t appreciate the crab. Brussel sprouts had some cheesy coating as well. Seafood pasta again, just okay. Felt like we needed to bring our own seasoning. Drinks were on point. My husband and I will return for bar food, drinks and live music but not for dinner.
Food and drinks were great! Didn’t have to wait for a table at all. Appetizers came out quick and portion sizes were great, didn’t leave overly stuffed and uncomfortable.
Very beautiful restaurant with great ambience, wonderful service and amazing food. We will definitely return to try additional dishes.
The food and service was really subpar. I asked for my burger medium it came out more than well done. Followed by my husband’s well done steak that should have been medium as well. My daughter tried the seafood pasta which lacked flavor and presentation just a bunch of seafood swimming in cream sauce. The ambiance is nice but I definitely do not have to return.
I couldn’t have asked for better customer service during our meal. The wait staff was very attentive and polite and were happy to offer recommendations on dishes. The food was very good and fresh and the restaurant is very nice. It was a great place for a date.
Great food and excellent service! Have been twice and I’m still impressed.
Atmosphere was nice and inviting, service was great and the food was fantastic.
Nice little tucked away spot in gambrillis. Awesome service, Great Ambiance. Delicious Food and pleasing selections.
Server very attentive and friendly, manager stopped at our table and we had a very informative conversation about the food sources etc, excellent fish and good wine.
I love this place! The ambiance is amazing, the staff is welcoming and professional, and the food is great.
We went for my son & stepson’s birthday. It was perfect!
They had yummy food and great service. It was buffet style but they were very attentive to any potential cross contamination.
