Absolutely loved it. Great food, great service and a wonderful ambience.
Lovely welcome - imaginative cocktails.
We were impressed by the wide selection on the menu.
Very surprised that there was no Amuse Bouche - for such a prestigious kitchen.
Steak tartare and scallops were favourites on our table for the starters but I wasn't sure that the large beef-dripping lardons were needed.
Steaks were cooked to perfection but the star meal was the Short Rib - divine!
Wine selection - it was tough to find a reasonably priced wine!!
Service was superb - attentive, charming and functional
Of all of JA’s places London this is the first disappointment.
Prices are sky high driven by the location rather than by any notable finesse in the kitchen. Service tried hard but was inexperienced..... and committed the sin of the supplying a second £4.50 bottle of water without asking.
That’s rude. Like the bill.
It feels like restaurants of the J. Atherton group are sliding further into “commercial” territory, aimed at maximizing profit and capitalising on the brand. Portions were small, and the menu was uninspiring. A couple of dishes (the fried onion starter) were clearly aimed at the Instagram crowd to create buzz, building expectations which are unfortunately not met with substance. Initial impressions were confirmed when paying the £160 bill for one shared starter, two main courses with sides, a glass of wine, a beer and a cocktail.
First visit here as we were staying in the hotel overnight. Food and service excellent as always. We were seated in lower dining room area which is not as nice as upper dining room and very difficult to get reasonably priced wine though what we had was wonderful. Breakfast also lovely here.
Everything about our a la carte lunch was superb. My reason for giving Value: 4 stars was purely because there was a limited choice of wines under £40 but this wouldn’t stop all 4 of us returning very soon.
Delicious food, excellent service and very well priced. The little extras make all the difference. Will be coming again soon.
Food was great and waiters friendly. Very expensive wine though and not many mid range options
The best meals you can have are the ones that take you by surprise and exceed expectations - this was my experience of the The Betterment. A real pleasure!
This almost perfect meal was unfortunately spoilt by an oblivious waiter. Do not get me wrong, the rest of the staff were fabulous. My starter was inedible, yet no questions were asked as to why I had not touched it. When he came to ask if we wanted to keep our bread, I said ‘ yes, as I could not eat my starter’ this was once again ignored!
As I said the rest of the staff were amazing as were All other courses. We will definitely be back. I must also say Dan the Sommelier is outstanding.
Could not work out if this was a fine dining restaurant or casual dining. Food not up to Athertons Social restaurant standard and wine list expensive for a casual restaurant. Service not bad but could be more attentive. Only 6 out of 10
I'm running out of superlatives ... another dinner here with different friends. Warmest of personal welcomes, lovely to see a couple of changes to the set menu so I was able to have something different. Crab on toast was Divine with a capital D; the pork was gorgeous again and the new chocolate mousse dessert is a keeper! Lovely bottle of NZ red and a special gift from Orlando (scrummy onion star/petal). It won't be long before I'm back ...
I tried this restaurant for the first time on a business lunch and it didn’t disappoint. Friendly, helpful service and delicious food. I had the set menu which for 3 courses at £29.50 was exceptional value - The dressed crab gratin with brioche and crab butter was fabulous and I’d go again just to have that.My guest had the a la carte menu which was similarly great. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place but if I was being very picky I would say they could include more greens on the menu but that’s my only criticism.
I have read many mixed reviews about this restaurant, however I really couldn't fault any aspect! We booked a set price menu with a glass of champagne and as couldn't see the menu on-line I called and asked for it to be emailed. The lady I spoke to was super efficient and the menu was received instantly. This level of service continued when we arrived. Friendly greeting, really helpful barman and the waiting staff and Maître d' were all excellent, special mention to the sommelier too who was made good recommendations. We had a couple of things off the A la carte and pricing was very fair for a restaurant of this quality. The one criticism some of the party had, was that the portion size on the crab starter was too big, not a big complaint though! Overall very nice place, with great service and lovely food all at a reasonable price. Well worth a visit.
Great dining experience - good menu, excellent service & lovely ambience
As you would expect of Jason Atherton, the food is of a very high standard, as is the service.
It is a restaurant in an hotel and as a result it doesn’t quite have the ambience of a discrete one.
We went unaware of how new this restaurant is and were bowled over by the great food and service. Something went slightly wrong (because of one of my guests not the staff) but the way it was handled was excellent.
This was a completely disappointing experience. Very poor service; food arrived at different times and was cold; and drinks service equally poor. And very expensive. Jason Atherton has seemingly over expanded and lost the levels he had achieved in his other restaurants. We won’t be back.
Good breakfast spot.
Only open a short while but have to say great food, lovely atmosphere and the staff where fantastic never felt rushed and the food presentation was spot on will be coming back for sure
My second visit in about 10 days - the cheeky cocktail in the bar first, then seated in a different part of the restaurant this time. The maitre d' even came over to welcome be back by name - nice touch. This is a great deal and I hope it continues for a long time as it is such a great way to get regular diners into some fancy places! I had the same mussel starter which was just as good. We both then had the pork chop which was outstanding. We were still trying to decide on a dessert, then the staff came over with the cheese trolley as a "surprise treat" - we got to choose 6 pieces to share - amazing. Then they brought us the trifle as well, which was actually better than the first time I had it - PLUS the caramel chox! There's a glass of Moet on the deal, and we both had a couple of glasses of stunning wine on top. I seriously can't wait to go back - but I would like the try a new menu if possible.
An outstanding meal. Atherton hits the nail on the head again. Will be going back ASAP.
