Pleasant country pub, nice and quiet. Steaks were slightly undercooked though and no check on us during dining. For the price, these details need to be better.
The Bay Horse is a favourite of mine, lovely setting, great food and service, the staff are always friendly and make you feel very welcome, I can highly recommend the venue.
Covid compliant without making you feel uncomfortable.
Feed and service great, it was quiet but with a steady stream of guests. Would recommend to any one for any occasion or just a bite to eat and a drink.
Would really recommend this restaurant- great service, great food and a cosy logburner!
Staff were very attentive & made it a safe & enjoyable experience!
Thank you for a great afternoon!
Fantastic food and fantastic atmosphere. Lovely open fire and really clean.
It’s a beautiful pub but I’m afraid to say the food is still only average. My schnitzel was dry & needs a sauce and the coleslaw was so cold it almost felt like it had been frozen which it can’t have been.
Kids dishes were huge and no complaints there.
Lovely food. I feel that its harsh to score the venue down for atmosphere given that this is the best it could be during COVID. The place is well decorated though, the food excellent and the service very good.
Excellent Sunday dinner - beef was full of flavour & tender
Everything was good, the food, the service, the place was clean and tidy.
Spoilt slightly by loud table of teenagers in the back dining area.
Overall enjoyed it, will go there again and will recommend.
Sadly disappointing return visit for lunch, having had an enjoyable dinner service here several months before. We had higher expectations but they didn't deliver this time.
We were kept waiting on arrival and the service throughout wasn't very warm nor inviting. We had to ask for the menu specials (soup, fish, pie) and weren't advised to order sides to go with the mains which left us very dissatisfied and too late to then order.
The camembert starter was unpalatable, offensively strong in smell and flavour and over-cooked. Served with chutney mixed in rather than on the side, and way too much cold toast, it made for an unattractive and poorly cooked dish which I simply couldn't eat. The waiter notived I hadn't eaten it but didn't apologise nor offer an alternative.
Overall the ambience was poor, very quiet and had little Christmas spirit about the decoration, table settings, service and menu choices.
Won't be rushing back nor recommending this as a lunch venue unfortunately.
A fine dining experience, will go again food and service great
Our first visit and we really enjoyed ourselves - thanks Bay Horse :-)
The review is based upon the last night before lockdown on the 5th Nov. The pub had run out of draught beer and lager and the food offering was extremely limited hence the poor food review. Hopefully normal standards will be resumed after lockdown!
Steak nice. Disappointed with white toasted bread with Camembert to start. Should have been artisan bread. Crust on dessert overcooked.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Much improved - the beef was flavoursome & tender.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions a little quiet & lacking atmosphere.
Will certainly be back after the November lockdown.
Lovely Sunday full roast with all the trimmings!! Very well presented. Couldn’t bite through the crackling.Bit gutted about that , as I love pork crackling!! All meats absolutely lovely however, and plenty to get through. Lovely vegetables , gravy and condiments . Absolutely gorgeous cheesecake for pudding!! We will be going there again!! ( when possible!!!!)
Lovely warm and relaxing atmosphere, food was excellent and full of flavour, served well by a friendly professional team who maintained excellent standards on an evening of a second national lockdown being announced. Food and wine were good value and choice. Would not hesitate to recommend for a cosy evening out.
Lovely food, great service and super polite staff.
Tables are lovely and spaced apart, could not say about what options of beers are ok offer as we do not drink so only had lemonade
We went for lunch - a party of 4. Lovely food and excellent service. Tasteful decor and lovely view out of window to garden. I would strongly recommend
A nice one night breakaway nearby. We enjoyed our meal. The room was cosy and very nicely decorated just a little noisy from the room above
We enjoyed our meal, social distancing was adhered to So we were comfortable. Prices slightly high but we’ve found most places have increased the cost of food
Party of 4, made very welcome by restaurant/hotel staff. Excellent roast beef and all the trimmings and good selection of puddings. Menu varied and good. Wood burning stove, lovely atmosphere and decor. Couldnt fault it.
Really nice good, nice wine. Good service and great location
We had a lovely meal with delicious food and great service!
Lovely lunch in a beautiful setting. All precautions taken to minimise the risk of coronavirus.
Always excellent service! Food was great again and look forward to returning soon.
Very good COVID measures - felt safe eating here. Good beer and cider. Food excellent.
It was my wife’s birthday dinner and she thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening.
A number of problems during our meal, incorrect meals arriving at the table, we then waited 5 minutes for a soup spoon to be provided to enable one of the guests to eat her starter. As tucked in a corner and with the restaurants one way system in place we did feel it was hard to get the attention of members of staff and we waited for about 10-15 minutes for a member of staff to attend to us when initially arrived. When we requested the bill a number of items were overcharged which the waitress indicated had been a problem on the till all day!! We have dined at the Bay Horse before and we were very impressed however, our experience this time will likely put us of visiting again.
Excellent meal, very generous portions - couldn't eat it all unfortunately. I had the pork schnitzel which was delicious! Highly recommended. Very pleasant staff.
The food and service were very good. The staff wear facemasks.
The only downside was that the other customers didn't seem to think facemask wearing is required in pubs when not sat down.
Staf didnt remind them.
There was an opportunity to do this when people walk in off the street and have to wait to be seated.
A beautifully presented establishment even in these COVID times we felt very welcome. Both the food and service were faultless. My partner had to check the bill as she thought we had been under charged! Great service, great food and great value. We will definitely be returning.
Food and service very good, a little quite due to being a Monday evening and Covid.would like to stay when we are back to something like normal. Three of us had steak and it was very good
The Sunday lunch was delicious, one of the best we’ve had whilst eating out.
Good food, quiet when we went, staff friendly. New look dining rooms welcoming.
We enjoyed an early Evening meal. The fish and chips and scampi and chips were excellent. We shared a cheesecake with fruit compote and that was delicious too. The service was very good too.
Second meal at this lovely restaurant You won’t come away hungry
So lovely to be back at the Bay Horse in Goldsborough once again & to see it after all its thoughtful renovations. The food was delicious & in the very relaxed surroundings, we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We’re looking forward to being able to sit in the lovely garden when the sun shines. Fantastic to see it being well supported & also to see their careful attention to the appropriate protection against Covid. We shall most certainly return!
Excellent, very attentive staff, good choice of inexpensive food, which on both occasions was very good, we will definitely go back if in the area again. Would definitely recommend
Friendly atmosphere. Food delivered hot and good service with friendly and attentive staff. Tried numerous gins after meal they were great too. Defiantly go again
