The Barn - Restaurant & Bar
Slow service. Unattentive staff. Burgers were not cooked how we asked for them
Restaurant claimed they did not receive my reservation through Open Table so there were no seats available inside. I was not the only one this happened to that night, another couple waiting for a table stated the restaurant did not have their reservation either. We were seated outside but it was a little too chilly to be sitting outside that night, so we left and went to another restaurant.
Service was a little choppy. My order was taken down incorrectly (two different parts of my order) and challenged when I asked to have it fixed.
Friday night reservation for 7:00. Seated promptly at a small metal table in the parking lot. Then waited 30 minutes without a visit from anyone that worked here. Went inside to let the owner know we were still there, he came out with menus and said someone would be over. After another 30 minutes we had drinks and water. An hour in, and we were finally having a drink and had placed an order for a shared app and dinners. Decent craft beer selection, however no carbonation at all and not near cold.
90 minutes into this adventure I stated asking the tables around us if they had ordered food and how that was going, everyone was there as long or longer than us and was still waiting on food. Our spiedini appetizer showed up finally with no plates and still no silverware. The waitress left and said she’d grab some and be right back. TEN MINUTES, we waited as this hot cheese dish turn ice cold. We got up and walked to our car and left. No, I had no intention of paying for the free drinks after wasting almost 2 hours at this $h!&show of a restaurant.
The takeout business seemed to be brisk with lots of orders brought out to cars. I couldn’t help but wonder why the food for people eating there couldn’t be delivered to the table that efficiently.
I honestly think there were 3 people working there, the husband and wife who seem to own it and one very young inexperienced waitress. There is not a big selection in Morris but do not go here if you are attending a show at South Farm. Maybe find a dead time when they can keep up.
I’ve never written an open table review before but this experience could not be left unreported.
Open Table has a reputation for quality dining, this was not what I would expect when making an OT reservation
Understaffed, slow and inattentive service. Was served 2 beers in 2 hours. Took 1 hr 45 mins for dinner to come out.
The staff and owner were amazing. Will definitely be back!
Meeting friends for an outdoor lunch was comfortable and service was good. The food was good, however we ordered a Lobster Roll for nearly $20.00 and while it was delicious, it was surprisingly small. All at the table thought so. Everything else was very good and ample portions. Nice Mixed Green salad and fries exactly how we wanted them
Service was great even though it was a busy ish lunch crowd. They do a decent job with the whole Covid thing too. Would return if the opportunity presents itself.
Because of COVID-19 we were dining outdoors. This may have added to the reason I gave this restaurant a three star rating. They were understaffed, having only one waitress for all the outside diners. They had one chef. At the same time they were taking many many online pick up orders. The waitress did the best that she could considering the situation. As for the food it was mediocre, although the menu reflected an interesting range of dishes.
