The food was good but the service was awkward/disorganized.
Loved the ambiance of this place! The furniture, the menu (smoked salmon tower!), and the coffee were all fabulous. Would come back for brunch again or for evening cocktails!
Super cool place! In love with the interior design, delicious food 👌🏻
I always love going to the Allis - although it is pretty booked with reservations they always try their best to accommodate with seating options. But we reserved a table, the server was very friendly and talkative and the food never disappoints. I'll continue going back and I'll always recommend it as a cozy/chic spot with great food
Super cute and photogenic environment. Food was good and came out quickly. My friend had an issue with her dish but the manager took care of it. I would def come back again.
We had both breakfast and dinner. Food is excellent and nice variety. The ambiance is superb, relaxed and elegant, "Homey" feeling. The staff is attentative.
The place looked cute inside but it seemed nice out so we opted to sit outside. It was nice until it started to rain and NO ONE EVEN CAME OUT TO CHECK ON US. We ended up moving our food and TABLES to get into a position to not get wet. (It was too hard to figure out how to carry all our small plates and drinks inside on our own.) Food was fine but our server was not. Just got back and realized he put 2 different appetizers in the same to-go box so now it's all mixed up together in there. NOT the level of service I expect for restaurants in this area. I don't plan to go back.
El ambiente muy bonito y elegante. La comida bastante básica y nada sobresaliente.
The food was awesome and the setting was outstanding.
Food was pretty average for brunch. I felt like the avocado toast was missing something and a little too lemony and the chicken sausage was too bland. However the ingredients were very fresh and the ambience is so great and the cocktails are always so good that it is worth going back
Love having tea in the lobby. Great vibe great people watching
We sat outside on a nice night and was greeted initially, but then it took over 20 mins to get our drinks and NO one was around to ask for help. Our appetizer came before the drinks. My husbands martini was made wrong and was not even cold by the time we got it. Food was below average in my opinion. Would not go back
While in Chicago the options for enjoying an English tea are very limited, we chose the Allis for the afternoon tea with great expectation however we had to ask twice to heat the water for the tea (it came lukewarm), the portions of the tower are poor and we only rescue the scons and puddings, the attention, good
We ordered a Granola bowl with yogurt and berries. The berries were spoiled and not good to eat
Love the atmosphere and location the food was good.
The food was good. The service was unorganized and at a snails pace.... someone would take a drink order and never come back. Then a manager would come try to take our order. For being associated with Soho house, I expected better service
My reservation was canceled even though I was there only ten minutes after my time. No attempts were made to accommodate me. Will not go there ever again.
Loved the afternoon tea service
Food is always amazing, best breakfast in Chicago. Im a little confused about how the service works as we never seem to have a specific server and end up trying to flag down anyone we see to order drinks, food, the check etc.
Wonderful atmosphere! Beautiful place with good food!
I came in here on my birthday and had a brand new waitress. We got the sparkling tea so it includes tea and rose. She tried to take our tea glasses away and we explained we wanted tea as well as included in the afternoon tea. She disappeared for majority of the 2 hours we were there. The desserts were average and I found a piece of plastic in the chocolate cake so I assume they are not made on-site.
I had made a note that is was my birthday but that was never mentioned. It is beautiful inside but the staff were not helpful and didnt seem to want to be there. We had to go to the bar to get our bill since the waitress wasn't around and was informed she had to bring it. I won't be back for afternoon tea.
Not so good...
The Allis is the perfect place to catch up with old friends or have a meeting. The atmosphere is laid back but elegant. The menu is well devised by not overwhelming. Tea Time is a must at The Allis!
The upstairs is to me very beautifully decorated. I appreciated the manager letting us seat up there in spite of being told that area was closed when we arrived.
The menu was very limited. I was bringing with me an international colleague and felt bad about the very few choices on the menu.
Lamb meatballs, as always, are very good. Burgers were mediocre, and the same with the chopped salad...charcuterie tray was nice. The chocolate chip cookies were very good.
Drinks looked and tasted great.
I did not get a detailed bill, which was weird by since I didn’t want my colleague to get involved in paying I didn’t ask for it. But it was strange that only my credit card bill came when Juan Carlos brought me the signing slip.
Great ambiance and delicious food, always a wonderful experience! However, service was not on point. The team was not very attentive and we were always asking (sometimes more than once) for things they should have anticipated.
Food is average. Service is somewhat bad, a waitress has never came back to check or asked how the food. She came when taking an order and giving us a check. Not worth for money. I can find better food and service.
Could be great, but wasn't quite.
Ambiance: I love the space and the feel. However, I was with 2 others who are over 6-feet-tall, and the chairs we were seated at were far too low for tall people.
Food and bev: They were out of draft cider and didn't have any alternative ciders. They were out of a particular vodka and one ingredient of a featured cocktail.
Service: We ordered 3 appetizers, 2 salads, and 2 entrees, all to share. The appetizers and salads all came at once - - ridiculous. And we had 5 meatballs and 3 pieces of toast for 4 people - - should have been easy to adjust.
BTW: We also had pedicures at the Cowshed, which is part of the Soho, and they were out of any white nail polish, needed for a French pedicure.
The whole operation seems very poorly managed. Should be better for the price, I think.
Horrible service, couldn't even get sat for 15 minutes despite having a reservation and being stared at by 3 servers. Felt like we were bothering them the minute we walked in, was rudely sat down eventually, but by then we had enough and just left.
Perfect brunch spot. Low key and quiet as well.
Wonderful setting and great food!
Service was slow and at times inattentive. The food lacked imagination and was rather bland. Overall, an OK experience.
We’ve been here several times and it has always been a relaxing and pleasant experience. This last time, we came for dinner at 8:30 on a Friday night and there was a house DJ absolutely blasting music in the upstairs (this must be new? I love house music but I also love being able to hear my partner talk when we’re out to dinner). We couldn’t hear each other talk from across the table and both tables beside us were also having similarly negative experiences.
ambiance is beautiful, you would think you're walking into a restaurant with $60+ main dishes, yet much cheaper meals than that. service is create, bars upstairs had fun energy. Altogether, an amazing restaurant.
Gret ambience, a little too noisy but overall great service and the food was very good. We ordered the burgers, steak frites and the chicken. Will definitely be back soon. I love the concept of the restaurant.
I had high hopes for this place because of great reviews. Why this place got anything above a 2 star is beyond me!!! My mother and I had a TERRIBLE time here with serious lack of service, the poor quality of afternoon tea and food.
First of all, I indicated that we were doing Mother’s day couple of days late So I requested a private, good table for tea on the phone as well as on Open Table.
We had a reservation at 2:30, so we got to Allis around 2:22. No one was available at the front, and 3 servers were all passing us by and just staring for about 10 minutes. The bell desk agent at the Soho House stepped in and said “you know, by now, it’s probably good idea to just choose your own seating.” I said I have a afternoon tea reserved, and had to hail down a server. She proceeded to ask for my name, checked it on the tablet, and proceeded to give me a lunch menu.
I told her we are there for Afternoon tea, and she goes “oh” and gets new menus. Then she asks me to wait to have the table prepped. This was now about 15 min after our arrival. There were hardly any people, and only 2 tables of 1-2 people on the first floor eating or drinking. Few others were just lounging with their laptops (so, no. They were NOT busy).
Then we were escorted upstairs where we were seated right by the stairs. Not private, not cozy, and kind of dirty. Apparently there is some remodeling going on on the second floor, so the whole time we had to listen to banging, sawing, hammers, drills, etc. about 15 ft away from our table in front of their kitchen!!!!
We had to hail down a server, who didnt greet or come to us, order and never get our food, just our tea. Asked for our food and was only given for one person, then hail down a Manager who went to check and brought us the second person’s food after 25 minutes of the first one. Never refilled on any water or tea water, the food was dried up and gross, the tea was tea bag (yuck). We barely had 1/3 of the meal and asked for our check.
This was a great venue for afternoon tea, very comfortable without being at all stuffy. Really enjoyed and will be back.
Everyone was really nice and service was quick. We did stay for awhile and our server was so sweet along with the rest of the staff. We also showed up a bit late and they were so understanding and nice
Probably the best brunch/breakfast I have had....from menu selection, to presentation of the delicious food and drink on the beautiful plates/tableware, to the ambiance and historic décor to the beautiful light coming in through the floor to ceiling windows. Best recommendation and a must visit while in Chicago. We will definitely be back next time we are in the city!
