It was restaurant week, so included in the offer was appetizer, entree and dessert. Everything else was a la carte which was fine except that one of the four appetizers chosen by 3 of the 4 in our party was out. We were ordering at 6 pm so very early in the evening. We were offered one of the three others, and when we asked if we could substitute from the list of dishes for the table, we were told no. The salads came, one with a ring of salad with a pool of dressing in the middle, and the other had 4 slices of roast beets covered by a mound of not-so fresh cabbage with some spinach thrown in. The entree of falafel had three falafel balls over a bed of grain salad. The salmon entree was nice but rather ordinary. Desserts were delicious and beautifully presented. The meal was hardly worth the drive to Frederick particularly because, except for dessert, we could have replicated the meal at home.

We picked the 3 course menu and found it excellent in terms of refinement, quantity, taste and presentation. The only surprise was the scallops which turned out to be a ceviche (raw scallops) but the menu doesn’t say a word about raw scallops. It was delicious but we expected cooked scallops. Ambiance in the kitchen is lively but to us a bit too noisy.

The food and drinks at Thacher & Rye are incredible! The flavors in all of the dishes were just impeccable. I never liked raw oysters until now! The scallop corn pudding first course and the salmon entree were perfect and the cheesecake is to die for! It is a little pricey but well worth it.

Our waiter was extremely nice but the food was hit and miss. My salmon entree was Luke warm (I admit I like my food served piping hot). The scallops were served cold but I wasn’t aware of that. Had it been served hot it would have been amazing as the sauce was extremely good. My husband enjoyed the shrimp appetizer, the Parker house rolls were delicious. Desert was … ok. Nothing to write home about but not bad. I probably won’t return.

Food was absolutely incredible. We sat in the kitchen area and it was very cool to watch the chefs preparing food. Our server was fantastic. We live about an hour away from Frederick and will absolutely be back.

Food was OK - amuse bouche was mediocre. Dish of the night was the first course scallops. Beet salad not noteworthy. Entrees were good but not nothing special.. All courses were not explained. Dessert again was unremarkable. Expected a bit more from a Voltaggio restaurant. I understand more casual style but quality of food and service was sacrificed.

Stopped in for restaurant week and definitely wasn't disappointed. Was my second visit, and decided on the Parker House rolls, Badger Flame Beets Salad, the Orecchiette, Burger, and Sticky Toffee Cake. Of those, the standout was the Orecchiette - warm, smokey and delicious. Everything was good and I was definitely full at the end. I wasn't disappointed picking the burger as my entree even though it was a tough choice from the other picks on the menu - it was an exceptional burger and I forget how sometimes chefs can forget that the meat needs to be the star in a burger, not the various toppings. T&R definitely did not forget that principle. The smoked trout that came with the rolls was also amazing.

Our dining time was truly an experience. From the ambiance, to the food, to the service. Everything was exceptional! We were seated in the kitchen which was amazing to watch. Overall everything was amazing and we will definitely be back.

We decided to try Thatcher and Rye for Frederick Restaurant week 2022 to take advantage of the special menu. We were not disappointed! The cocktails and food were excellent. The atmosphere is modern and welcoming. We will be back!!!

Appetizers—good. Main courses—mediocre. Desserts—one w honeydew—terrible; one mousse—good; one ice cream sandwich—meh!! Very high prices. Ate outside—-noise from the street(motorcycles, street drummer) deafening, although not the fault of the restaurant. Server was excellent & attentive. Not going back!!

Hats off to the chef (s) at Thatcher & Rye for an amazing dinner on our 16th wedding anniversary. We ordered the oysters, shishito peppers, bass, and short ribs and they were all amazing. You do have to order everything up front for some reason which I didn’t like as I probably would’ve ordered a second due to the small sizes of the first (which you don’t know until you get them), but it left enough room to go to get local ice cream afterwards. The service was good between two waiters/helpers and I really like places that use teamwork with a a good attitude helping each other which benefits the customers instead of hogging the table for tip mentality which makes the customer less served. The building is cool looking and cozy. We live close so always wanted to try this place on a special occasion.

Loved this restaurant! First time we visited, and we'll definitely return. We shared the shishito peppers and scallops first courses and had the ravioli and the beef for dinner. All dishes were fantastic. Our server, Paige, really made the meal even more enjoyable. She was personable, knowledgeable, and just plain fun! Highly recommend and can't wait to return.

What a wonderful experience! The food, especially the flavors, was outstanding. The wait staff was extremely professional but personable. The ambiance was lovely with beautiful decor, art and sound. It was our first visit but definitely won’t be our last. We’ll done all!

The ham was a bit salty, but, overall, the food was excellent. The barbecue short rib could not have been any more tender or flavorful. The lasagne was terrific and the salad was the freshest I’ve ever had without picking it myself from a garden. Add to that the excellent service provided by Conner and I don’t think there could have been a better dinner for a date. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan on returning again soon.

Noisy, but service was exceptional! Overall, the food was good. However, the orecchiette pasta’s sauce was too overwhelming and not good. Also, the toffee cake was a little on the dry side. The flavors though, were spot on. It’s on the pricey side (we spent around $400 for a party of 4) but it was worth the price. You can tell all ingredients used were the best available. My only recommendation is to fix the acoustics. The noise level was high. I couldn’t hear the person next to me.

Excellent meal. Service was top notch. All courses were delicious, with the scallop, ravioli, and pork chop really standing out. Very accommodating as we had a younger guest with us. We were fortunate enough to meet Chef Voltaggio who was very gracious during a busy dinner service.

What a lovely dining experience in every way. Magnificent food, delectable cocktails and desserts, and primo accommodating service. It was an energetic environment—just slightly too noisy. Enjoy diverse, well prepared fare. Worth the trip to Frederick, a charming historic town and just far enough from the DC area to feel like a worthy getaway.

Fabulous space - several different rooms each with a special mood. Ours was bright and spacious - no other diners right next to us - contrasting to many fancy restaurants in DC. Every dish was outstanding - served promptly and sequenced to our wishes. What we liked was that they were totally receptive to requests. Our waiter was friendly and available. We will return as often as we can - we’ll worth the 50 Mo it’s drive from DC!

Food overall was very good with appropriate portion sizes. There were several discrepancies between what sides/garnishes that were served compared to what was listed on the menu which did not bother us but could be problematic to other diners. We ordered the chocolate dessert and it was not to our tastes but the cheesecake was delicious. Our server was competent but we found several of the food runners to be more outgoing and friendly. Would dine here again.
