Our fist visit...Quite possibly the best restaurant meal I've ever enjoyed. I had the Halibut.
The unsweetened tea infused with papaya was amazing.
The chocolate orange pudding dessert was out of this world fantastic. I licked the plate and didn't care who was watching.
Our waiter - MacKenzie, was knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive on our anniversary date.
The complimentary Champagne was an unexpected, but much appreciated overture.
No doubt we will become regular patrons to Thatcher&Rye.
Brian Voltaggio's food never disappoints! We drove an hour from Anne Arundel County to enjoy a special occasion meal. We have previously visited twice when the restaurant was Volt. The food still compares to the excellence of Volt. The service was a bit rushed and must say we prefer a savor our food experience to the minute your food is finished here's the next course of Thatcher and Rye. Cocktails were outstanding, wine list lovely, and of course the food is outstanding. We will be back for the next big celebration.
Our server Hannah, our food and our drinks were all amazing.
Everything we ordered today was above average!!! Our waiter was great , extremely friendly and had great suggestions . We will definitely return !!!
Exquisite menu with lots of wine pairings to choose from. Loved the outdoor seating. Classy service too!
Delicious food and great service. The halibut was really wonderful. Even the iced tea was unique and perfect. Great coffee and cocktails. A bit expensive for my personal budget, however I’m grateful for the experience, no regrets.
Overall it was good. My problem was pork lion, it was not good. Risotto was very good. It is pretty much every time hit or miss. One dish is great the other one is not.
Voltagio’s team does magic with food. Creative and genius in design and preparation. Restaurant is elegant, but not stuffy or uncomfortable. Staff are terrific and understand how to deliver a great dining experience
Excellent food and presentation, with attentive friendly staff. Wonderful place for an upscale dinner in a pleasant setting
Ok ..The short ribs are pricey, but splurge anyways. Salads, desserts and let's not forget the service!!
An outstanding meal and service. Birthday celebration better this year at Thatcher and Rye than last year at Antrim 1844 (and I could go into detail about that!) The Rye with smoked trout was delicious. The beet and granola was truly remarkable (wife's favorite dish). The pork loin with cabbage was my favorite -- cooked just right (medium rare, moist in the middle and crisp on the edge). The chocolate dessert was a treat. Wines were okay, but not noteworthy. The wait staff was really on the ball. Our waitress (I think her name was Alexandria) was 100% better than the one we had last year at Antrim. She was most helpful in telling what was in each dish and how it was prepared. There was one slight problem. One diner was extremely loud and talkative. It helped a lot when he and his companion finished their meal and left.
My girlfriend and I had Fabulous
Menu looked great but the food was not … really tried too hard and was incredibly overpriced. Wonderful service though and very friendly.
Our server Steven was exceptional! This was my third visit, and I find your waitstaff to be exceptionally knowledgeable and well-trained. The food and wine pairings have been perfect. I always like to ask my server what their favorite things are on the menu, and I have not gotten a bad recommendation from your staff.
The food was delicious, there were a few details that probably wouldn't have happened if Chef Voltaggio was in the kitchen that night. Very detailed things, like skin on the cauliflower puree with the sea bass and too few pickles to eat through the duck rillette.
This is one of my favorite restaurants and we will definitely be back, I'm only criticizing because I care.
Overall, thank you for an amazing night and I appreciate you making my birthday special.
A birthday, it was amazing
The best desserts I’ve ever eaten. The ambience is awesome. Nice service.
My husband planned this as a thank you/celebration of my service in the Navy Nurse Corps.
The food was spectacular and over all everything was very good. Two pet peeves and they are both service related. One, they need to work on pacing between courses and the initial delivery of the snack. I felt rushed and there is no reason for that as there were tables available. Two, do not ever take plates until EVERYONE is finished eating. This goes back to being rushed. Do not take a dessert order when one person is still eating the main course.
Otherwise, all around delightful.
A love story from chef Bryan to his fans. He has the incredible talent of coaxing flavors out of the best product and somehow making each component taste like the best version of themselves. His broths and saucework are beguiling. Chef Voltaggio and his entire staff never fail to impress.
All food and drink were exceptional. The 2nd course lasagna was really good.
We were excited to try this restaurant because we read about the chef and his new effort. It could have been great but was instead only fair - except the cocktails which were excellent!
We had the pork tenderloin. Great concept but just slightly overdone. The plate also needed a dark green vegetable to compliment it and balance it out. The purée was delicious but there just wasn’t enough. The toffee cake was also a great concept and lovely; not large to share
I suspect great wait and front of the house staff are hard to find these days. Our waiter was new and completely lackluster. Offered no personality or information. The food came in a timely way and dishes were cleared when they should have been. The front of the house were friendly but again so casual (everyone was in jeans basically) in both dress and manner it didn’t go with the level of food being served. The ambiance was dreary. No color anywhere except the beautiful candle on the laminate table (?) overall we just felt like we were part of an assembly line being served rather than a dining experience that we were the center of.
Went to Volt 10 years ago and now that it’s Thatcher and Rye it’s a game changer. Service was amazing, the food was top notch and the Chef even came over to our table to check in and see how dinner was going. Highly recommend checking out Thatcher and Rye!
Phenomenal in every way. The food and service were remarkable.
Celebrating 50th anniversary. We ordered pork loin..very tough and dry; ordered steak..very tough and with gristle. Excellent beet and fennel salads. Wonderful rye bread ($8extra). Entrees were overall disappointing for the price of meal. We will not go back.
The seafood tower was amazing! Our server Kathryn was perfection - she has timing down to a science l. Never an empty glass or plate. She was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. Shrimp and grits rivals anything you can get in the deep south. The halibut was cooked perfectly! Cocktails were delicious 🍑Highly recommend! We sat on the patio with heaters and treated ourselves to blankets ($8/pp) and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Second time, taking advantage of the Love Local Dinner series. This was also a two fold success, not only was the food excellent, but we discovered a new winery to explore. Service was spot on, very knowledgeable about the food and wine pairings. This was our anniversary dinner and we felt very welcomed and enjoyed the meal immensely. We will be back.
Shrimp and grits a little too salty. Beets were awesome.
Excellent food, friendly and very attentive staff. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary, and received extra care with complementary sparking wine and a scrumptious dessert. We will return and bring our dogs to the patio for dining.
Worth the drive to Frederick. Service was great and the food and cocktails were amazing. When we arrived our table in the bar area wasn't ready. After a few minutes the Hostess offered to seat us at a table in the Chef's kitchen! Being able to watch the team prepare and serve the meals was an unexpected bonus and made the whole experience that much better.
Absolutely fabulous on all accounts. The ambiance is wonderful and the food spectacular. Can't wait to go back!
All around great meal! Great service, great food, great atmosphere!
Terrific place for a special occasion. Great old fashioned and Manhattan cocktails and superb food through all three courses. Our waiter Steve was helpful choosing our dishes.
Disappointing all around. Many steps down from the quality you’d expect from Volt.
You could get the same experience at Arby’s.
$340+ bill to listen to kids iPads at full volume. I can only assume Brian doesn’t step foot into his restaurants any longer as the same drop in quality can be experienced at the rebranded Showroom restaurant as well.
Fabulous service & great food. Creative and well orchestrated
Both the Halibut and Pork Loin were perfectly prepared and presented. Another memorable visit to T&R.
Great, original dishes that are delicious and don't make you feel stuffed. Nice staff and ambiance, we sat outside.
My husband and I went to Thatcher & Rye for our first time on my birthday. The meal, service, and ambiance were phenomenal. We’ll be back again with friends as soon as possible! Thanks for a great experience!
A lovely treat - pricey, but great for a celebratory dinner where you want to enjoy delicious food. We enjoyed everything we ate, and the cocktails were fantastic, too.
