Good restaurant in the heart of town. Popular with a lively ambiance and good for groups. Food was great and the steaks in particular were well cooked and delicious. Waiting staff were knowledgeable on food menu. No draught beer, so only bottled beers. It was relatively pricey for starters and mains. However, would recommend a visit.
Overall was not the experience presented on here. Sat for 15 minutes before anyone came to the table to take any orders. Came for the Pre/Post Theatre Menu and was not offered it nor mentions. Rushed to order, received lack luster service and bland food. Wouldn’t recommend.
We visited Temper on a Sunday afternoon and though service was excellent the food felt overpriced on reflection. Meat for the Sunday lunches is sold per/100g and if you order what they suggest then once you have paid the further £4 supplement for vegetables it comes to £30+ for the course.
With Hawksmoor down the road and lots of other great restaurants near by it is easier to find better value and better meals elsewhere.
Overall the food was very good and when it finally arrived (after 1 hour and 10 minutes) we all enjoyed it. The problem we had was that we all ordered different meats from the Sunday roast menu and they were all served on a platter together which was extremely annoying as the staff couldn't tell us which meat was which so how did we stand any chance of telling the difference apart from taste. Meat was missing and a side dish was missing and by the time they had come all the other food was finished. The potion size for an individual side dish which came late compared to four portions piled onto one big plate was far bigger so I think it's a bit of a rip off saying its all served in a big platter. The manager was very friendly and discounted our bill but money was not the point it was a rare family occasion which was a let down.
Fantastic food! Can’t wait to come again!
Arrived to find our table had been given away. Waited 30 minutes for food to be served and when it arrived the roast potatoes were burnt - looked more like lumps of coal than a potato.
Food was amazing, and wanted to order more. But the service was so bad, it was busy and there were lots of staff, but getting anyone to serve you was such hard work. Once we ordered stuff arrived promtly, but we waited 40mins for a drink, we would have ordered/spent more but we couldn't get anyone to take our order!
We arrived late but did let the restaurant know in advance. Upon arrival we were given a glass of prosecco each for our anniversary, nice touch, although we had to wait about 10 minutes for it. This was a Saturday night and it looked like a reduced menu from the website - I was looking forward to the soft shell crab taco... I never had a starter but my wife had the chicken wings which apparently were great, juicy and plump. I had the porterhouse steak and at £37.00 just for the steak - I don't think it was worth it. It was cooked perfectly but it arrived luke warm and I've had better at other restaurants for cheaper. My wife had the off the bone prime cut which again was cooked perfectly but lacking in warmth. The fries were as they should be and the hispi cabbage side dish was delicious. I had the bananaramadrama which considering it is a deep fried Mars bar with banana bread, the Mars bar was cold. My wife enjoyed the Nutella cookie. The serving staff were friendly but service was erratic. Would I go again, probably not when a certain Argentinian steak restaurant is much, much better and comparable in price.
I took my friend there for a spot of Brunch but was told later that I didn’t book for Brunch menu option as they have limited amount of brunch menu they produce. We then decided to just have the a la carte menu which was great however, the desert took ages to come and by the time it arrived it was disappointing to say the least. Think it was overpriced for what we had. However, we enjoyed the main meal and can see other meal looks amazing. Just have to make sure double check the booking next time and don’t bother with the dessert !
Disappointed you stopped making pizzas at this location! Definitely a favourite that served as a great sharing starter.
Reserved a table at 6:30 and the staff were already struggling. Our starters were forgotten by the waitress who took our drinks orders. Couldn't grab anyones attention and managed to order our mains 30min later. Second waitress was great and very apologetic but overwhelmed. Struggled to get our bill and it arrived with the starters, that hadn't arrived, on it. Food and atmosphere was lovely (soft shell crab tacos for the win) but would not recommend if you're going to a show.
Chose to dine at Temper for my husband’s birthday meal out. Loved the atmosphere, it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed and buzzing. We got seated at the counter overlooking where the chefs were cooking and preparing the steaks. Loved watching all the chefs preparing different dishes. Service was very good as in our waitress was very friendly but felt like it was hard work to get the attention of someone and took around 15 minutes to get our first drinks once seated. We went for the soft shell crab tacos, goat carnitas, porterhouse steak, potatoes with ogelshield cheese and the cabbage side to share, followed by the cookie dough! The food was exquisite, so full of flavour and really well prepared. Unfortunately our second drinks arrived about 20 minutes after the first and after our main courses had been served. Overall we enjoyed our experience and would definitely go back. Rated 4 stars and not 5 because the service was a bit slow and felt like we had to get the attention of the staff to order rather than someone keeping an eye out and checking if we wanted more drinks. Given the prices of the food and drinks that was a little bit disappointing.
Potentially the worst dining experience I have ever encountered
Food was lovely but pricey for what it was - it was our friends birthday and they did nothing to accommodate this, service was overall poor they clearly had too many tables to manage.
The advertised pre-theatre menu was not available on a Saturday but service was efficient. VERY noisy.
Had a mixed experience at Temper, we went at 2pm in a Saturday for the bottomless brunch. The initial service was good and the waitress was friendly. However the brunch platter was poor for £35 each, we got a average burger, one piece of chicken each and a small amount of sliced sausage, one portion of fries (the fries were to share between two people) the platter looked sparse. Once the food was delivered we really had to try to get the staffs attention to get our drinks refilled which I would have expected them to check more frequently considering it was a bottomless brunch.
While the restaurant is a good location, friendly staff (when they were around) and clean, the overall food and attention to service was lacking, a real shame especially when we have such good BBQ restaurants. They were also more expensive than others.
The service was brilliant from when we entered to when we left. Our server was Jurij who was excellent...very friendly, attentive and kept our glasses replenished without having to ask! The food was really good and plentiful. I will absolutely be back and will recommend this place.
Massive Temper Soho and City fan so putting this down to an off day. Bottomless brunch was great for the drinks, chicken and slaw ok but the burger was dry and our ordered sides forgotten yet on bill. Our waiter had to ask us to repeat our drink orders so many times and THEN had to write it down! Dirty glasses building up all over the place so just a bad day perhaps. Not giving up my Temper love for the other 2 as they are completely different class!
There are no vegetarian dishes,
The service wasn’t good ever that the waiter tried.
The dishes are small and the deserts were awful accept the cockie
Wonderful food, with spot-on advice and great service.
Surprisingly peaceful for lunchtime.
We will definitely return
Nice place, started off well staff were friendly, attentive and patient as we took a while deciding what to order. The food was nice but not overwhelming, wine was good. As soon as our food arrived it was like the staff didn’t care anymore - no check back to see if everything was ok, the waiter came to clear our table a while after we finished eating, didn’t ask how the food was, if we wanted desserts or to top us up with water and didn’t clear the table completely. We had to get someone’s attention to ask for dessert menu and then the bill too. Quite disappointing as I’ve wanted to eat here for a while. Not sure if the fact we were using code app was the reason for the decline in service but when you’re still paying service charge I wouldn’t expect it to change anything.
Good but overpriced food
Bad stroppy service
I have been to Temper before but went for the first time on a Sunday. I got a roast and although they were able to provide vegetarian roast potatoes there was no vegetarian gravy which is was very disappointing. Food was nice but dry.
We had book a table for 8.15pm, when arriving we were told to wait 5 minutes. After 15 minutes we asked for the table, and told just another 5 minutes. We asked if we could have a drink in the bar while waiting, but that was not possible because we were to be seated downstairs. After all 45 minutes waiting, another party of 4 arrived and was seated straight away. We then for a 4th time asked for the table and were seated 5 minutes after. Then we waited at the table for 10 minutes before getting served, and where just about to leave but gave it a change, the food was good. All though the food came in separate servings (we waited for salad and sides)
Had we just been offered a beer or a glass of wine while waiting a complementary cocktail when seated, but no further notice was taking. The waiter did not even know we had been waiting.
The food was delayed 45 mins coming out due to two large parties that were in before our us. The staff brought extra drinks galore to compensate and apologised multiple times. We were fine as it was a chilled afternoon.
Very much worth the wait as the food hit the spot exactly.
Great night for the Supper Club! Fabulous value, great staff and services. Will definitely be returning
Shocking level of service. Despite the only delays in our food being in Temper's side, they provided our bill with dessert and then asked us to vacate the table before we'd finished dessert. It was 65 minutes from the start of our reservation...
Even when the service was amazing from waitress and manager, we weren't impressed with the food. It's a good British interpretation of Mexican cuisine however meat could improve and probably more sauces would add more flavour. Portions are too small for the price.
Waited nearly 2 hours for our food - half of the dishes were either raw (salad or a barely roasted cabbage) or quick to make (steak, fries). Staff told us the kitchen had been overwhelmed with 18 tables filling at once? Don't make a restaurant a certain size if your kitchen can't handle it actually being full on a Wednesday night.. Steak was good, but nothing on the table - besides maybe the steak - was really worth the price tag. Classic London restaurant that prices its items based on location and ambience rather than actual taste. Place was too loud to enjoy sitting there for 2 hours anyway. Appreciated the manager reducing our bill but really wouldn't come back.
Dear HaniyyahRS Thank you for taking the time to write a review following your experience. I am sorry to hear that your party was left waiting for food - this is very alarming feedback as not indicative of the usual service provided here at temper. I can assure you that this matter will be addressed. I would very much appreciate if we could discuss the matter in further detail, if you have the time please contact the restaurant directly FAO Ben. Kind regards, Ben Clark-Edwards
The choice and quality of food at Temper Covent Garden is excellent. Unfortunately our waiter wasn't the best, he forgot orders, brought a raw dessert (uncooked nutella cookie) and just needed a bit more training.
Like I say though the food and atmosphere was excellent though
Service was abysmal — we were almost alone in the restaurant and still had a hard time getting our waiter’s attention. Unacceptably slow for lunch.
Food better at Soho branch.
What a amazing experience- we sat next to the chef who was happy to talk and explain different ingredients etc. We even got a butchery lesson thrown in! Delicious food and a great experience!
Great food, simple and done really well. Service was friendly but a bit slow, no offer of second drinks, plates taken before using.
This was my first time to this branch was was very disappointed to learn that we was not offered the Supper club menu which is offered on the website and on Instagram for £29pp. Instead we ended up spending £60 each which is just not. We should’ve been handed those menus as an option!!!
We had a very unfortunate experience, having dined at this restaurant already a few times before (which were always very good, hence we came back! )
Our waiter either did not take our order at all, or it got lost on a fairly busy Thursday night - so after nearly an hour of waiting, our mains came out without their sides or additional sauces we had ordered. They were also overcooked, not ideal. Our starters, and sharers had seemingly been lost and by the time the sides for our mains came we had nearly finished.
A manager did come to speak to us and apologised. Our original waiter continued to serve the tables either side of us, taking pictures for the party to our left - and possibly having noticed his mistake did not speak to us for the rest of the night, which was nice and awkward. We were offered desserts on the house, but by that point we just wanted to leave.
Our friends were back in London, having moved to Switzerland, and I had made this place to sound like a great place to eat. On the night, the service really let us down.
I like temper, I went to temper in Soho couple of times but this is the first time that I've tried them in covent garden. Food was good but I can't say the same for the staff... They forgot one of our meal, they bring the meal with coriander even I said that I hate coriander, and they did it 3 times... Beers were warm.. I will never go in covent garden temper again

Bit over priced for the sizes/portions you get! Especially the tacos/flatbreads
Service was disgraceful :( what a shame, the place is so nice and great ambience.
Great steak and sides and excellent service. Will be coming back again for sure
