A fresh seasonal produce driven menu inspires our ever-changing Mediterranean cuisine with plenty of gluten free options. The theatre itself remains constant, but the food and the menu are constantly evolving. Why not enjoy the stunning views of the Yarra river whilst indulging in some cheese & dessert on Southbank Promenade.
We have been coming to Teatro consistently for many years. It was a special occasion and we asked for a particular table. Firstly this was promised, but on the day not provided. Normally wouldn't have asked but it was a special occasion. Later it was offered. Food was not what we usually experienced and not at a standard that Teatro is known for. Two lovely staff who were overwhelmed with the number of customers and doing there very best. Would I return or now recommend Teatro most likely not. What was difficult to explain to our friends was that it was a great place with good food and nice service but not on the day. In fact I would say we were feeling embarassed. Would we have gone elsewhere if we could definitely the answer is yes. However, we were a large group and difficult to relocate at moments notice. Need to really think whether we would return or ever recommend. A shame because some of the best pizzas tappas around.
Slightly pricey but the food is very good. The Sangria was lovely and although initially it was very busy once the theatre crowd had moved on the noise level was very good.
Beautiful food in a lovely setting. Good service and reasonable prices. Just a tad noisy for us over 60's but would definitely recommend it.
Pizzas we better than expected and a great range of salads. Recommend sitting outside to enjoy the views of the yarra and passers by.
I would recommend but only because of its convenient location. The food was average at best.
Funghi pizza was lovely as were the croquettes and meatballs, Spanish sausage a little too much. Very busy here so may have a bit of a wait.
Thankfully we had booked a table for a pre-theatre meal. The place was packed, with tables crammed right up against each other and barely room to move. The service was extremely slow, not nearly enough wait staff for the number of patrons crammed in. It was half an hour before we got a drink even. The pizzas are pretty underwhelming, especially the Moroccan Lamb, which was dry and tasteless. All in all it wasn’t a relaxing experience.
I almost never write reviews but this deserves one. My partner and I went for dinner before a show at Hamer Hall. I ordered the Diavola pizza (essentially hot salami, cheese, olives and chill) and this was $27, my partner got a lamb ragu pasta and that was around $35 (?) and 2 croquettes were $15. NONE of the food was worth the money. What a ridiculous rip off. Obviously they are counting on non-repeat tourist business because I don’t know how they justified these prices. I would happily pay if the food was worth it but it’s a damn pizza. And it was soggy in the middle as it was too thin and the crust on one side was burnt. The serving of the pasta for $35 was ridiculous and my partner had to add salt and pepper (which he never does!). I had a taste and it was dry and pretty bland. Wish I went to the food court next door.
Booked a reservation for 8pm and there was no wait which was great. The waitress was very friendly and professional. The kids pizza was in a cool shape but was under cooked. The entree came out promptly but the pizza took quite a while to come out. The orange juice wasn't fresh and didn't taste very nice. The price was reasonable. The staff and atmosphere is great but the food wasn't impressive.
The salads were great but the bread crackers which accompanied the anchovies were stale.
Good, would go again. Service very friendly but slow, hard to get attention and we never received one of our dishes.
Great place to eat before a concert or theatre as you can choose tapas or something more substantial if you have time. Delightful staff. As with anywhere these days one needs to book to ensure a table. Food is very good and while it is 'busy' it is quite manageable.
Perfect spot for a light dinner before the theatre. Great tapas and light food options. Excellent sangria!
Great food and location ahead of a concert at AAMI Park. Staff knew our timetable and ensured we had lots of time to enjoy their wonderful food and get to AAMI on time.
Teatro is a favorite. Highly recommend it.
Great food, good service a little too noisy for us
Great steaks. $25 lunch menu, excellent value, excellent service
Good food and service. They make sure that you are on time for any show
Great food and great service, ideal pre theatre venue
This restaurant is one of two best ones in South Bank area. It offers nice food, not fast food dressed up us fine dining. At the same time it’s a relaxed, casual place, so you can just pop in if you are passing by or make a booking for a quick lunch before a matinee show at the Arts Center.
Great seafood paella and good service. Easy to make a booking online. Too noisy.
We love be the restaurant for all occasions.. great place to people watch on Southbank
A great meal! Perfectly done steak and a great variety in the special tasting menu. Very busy and noisy, but the view is worth it.
We loved the service, the food, the atmosphere. The staff were very attentive & made sure we could finish in time to attend our movie. My only criticism is the way wines prices are laid out. We looked at the glass prices & they were showing 150/250 ml prices. We opted for the bottle & were a bit surprised to find the bottle price on the bill was more than the equivalent glass prices.
Great for a pre-theatre dinner. Pizzas were delicious, as was the churros for dessert.
Teatro is a quite large restaurant and bar with an open, friendly atmosphere and good views of the Yarra and the city. The food is varied, tasty and reasonably priced, wine list is good, and service prompt and friendly. We've been twice, and will certainly go again soon for a weekend lunch.
We had booked prior to attending the theatre. Advised person who took our order of our time restraints and were assured that both entrée and main would be served together. Had our entrée which was delicious and then checked up on our main as there was a delay, to find out that the order hadn't been submitted to the kitchen. We had to leave as we had no time to wait. Not very happy, no apology from the person who took our order who was part of management, our waitress was very apologetic however. Had to leave our alcoholic drinks behind as we needed some food before consuming alcohol. Again no refund on the drinks, even though she said she would adjust the bill. Not a happy customer, pity as the one dish we had was very nice.
i had made a booking for 5 people on Friday night, upon arrival a staff member came out and all she said was "We are only serving Pizzas" and walked away!! very rude! After seeing that we decided not to even bother and walked away in disappointment as we got recommend to have dinner there. I didn't even receive a call as to why our booking wasn't attended to. No i will not be returning to this place if that is how rude the staff are not even asking if we had a booking or anything.
Food was good and the service was friendly and attentive. Only disappointment was that when I booked via Open table I was given the option to book an outside table which was accepted. When we turned up at 6:30 we were told that you can't book outside tables.
Friendly, efficient & helpful staff. They confirmed our pre theatre booking & were very mindful of our timeframe.
I booked an inside table because it was 36 outside BUT all the doors were open so it was very hot which made the dining experience less than enjoyable!
I had booked a table outside but was put inside, I watched and heard I believe the manager ( Indian Gentlemen) give a new worker a dressing down, I found it awkward not just for my table but for the young girl, the seating was too crowded- we where seated next to a table ( a long table ) of English people- or seem to constantly adding people to their table, they kept hitting our chairs and at times we could not here our selves over the noise..
over all it was a nice place, good value, great location, just a needs slightly more consideration to customers..
Very easy to book. Meal was fine.
Service was reasonable.
Slightly difficult to get to until we found the lift.
Great meal before the Theatre
I actually emailed this to the restaurant before I saw this survey would enable me to do it.
My friends and I eat at your restaurant several times a year and I have never done this before anywhere but I wanted to let you know how much a friend and myself especially enjoyed one of your dessert items on Sunday night.
As a lemon tart connoisseur, I loved your deconstructed version. The crumbs were better that the best tart shell which can sometimes be too thick and/or undercooked, the lemon ‘filling’ was wonderfully tart and when I was expecting the froth on the top to be bland whipped egg white, it too turned out to be lemony and zingy.
We enjoyed all we had and the service from out friendly Scottish waitress, but the lemon tart parfait was memorable.
Great food and wine. Service was attentive and friendly, would recommend. Was able to find options for keto/LCHF.
Meal started ok with first dish. After that dishes lacked flavour/needed something more like salt, spices to give it flavour. Were told we would get lemon meringue for desert as were requested gluten free. We were looking forward to this. Instead we got this very sweet chocolate mouse/meringue desert. It was very noisy and we couldn't hear each other talk.
Had the lunch special, dissatisfied probably need to go again and select some thing from the main menu, however, wine on the special was good.
Great food and service. Sangria a hit as well. Highly recommended for fair value in a lively setting.
Last minute booking for a quick pre-show dinner. Service was quick (once we flagged down a staff member) and the food was really good.
The food was different and very good. Great for a quick meal pre theatre.
